Studio Organizing, Week 41

Posted on October 9, 2015 by prairiemoonquilts in Studio Organizing Challenge

I’m a day late posting this. Simply because . . . I’ve been running a day late with everything I’ve attempted this week!

Did you make any extra progress this past week?

The task I chose was “Eradicate a pile”. I had made a total mess of my desk:

It was so bad, you can hardly tell it’s a desk. I could NOT work in this mess. So this was a no-brainer. I cleared it off:

My inbox is still pretty full, but those things are gonna have to wait. At least now I can use my planner and notetaking binders without having to put them in my lap or search for them!

This week’s task is:

Organize your needles

I have this entire basket of hand-sewing needles — various types and sizes. I also have needles for my sewing machine and my longarm.

I get a bit carried away sometimes, and they get unorganized and scattered around.

Our task this week is to get them all gathered up and put away where they need to be. I keep most of my needles in this basket, but I keep my sewing machines needles with my sewing machine, and my longarm machine needles with the longarm. So you might find that you need several different needle storage locations, so you can keep them handy in the place where you actually need them.

So are you ready to tackle this? I am.

We might discover that we have some we will never use and we just need to get rid of them.

We might discover that we’re close to running out of our favorites and need to stock up.

We might discover that we have a lifetime supply of some types, and will never need to buy more of those particular ones. (Or is that just me?)

Once we’re done with this task, we’ll know exactly where to look the next time we need any type of needle for any type of project, right?

Organizing needles is one task that I “think” is in order but is anyone ever totally organized. My needles are in several places because of being where I use them That is a place all the extras belong. With several sewing machines I do have a time finding the size I need now and again. Usually not finding a machine needle size is because I need to buy that size. This week I think I will work on making a place for those piles of fabric that have accumulated by the time a project is finished

I bought a lot of fancy tins. I have all my different types of needles in them. My serger needles are with my serger in that tables draws. My regular machine’s are with that one and sp forth. I had to do that way back in order to not over buy anymore.

I organized the 2 UFOs that are in the piecing stage I wanted to bring to retreat. Everything is together and here with me at retreat!

I wonder how often I need to use a new needle when hand stitching? I would think these needles need to be changed like my machine needles but I always seem to use the same needle.

I’m not a big needle collector. I do have sewing machine needles in one spot and long arm needles in another, but they are always controlled.
The spot I have trouble with is the hand sewing ones.
When we did a organize a drawer, I fixed that problem.
I might be done with this week’s project.
Maybe I should try and finish last week’s project. LOL
