Silent Night

Fifty-seven years ago today, my mother was in the hospital giving birth to my baby brother, Darin. I’m sure that made for a memorable Christmas for her and our family. I was only 3 years old, so I don’t remember it being that eventful!
Barely in time for Christmas this year, I am finally introducing this year’s Prairie Moon Ranch Cowboy Christmas Stocking: Silent Night.
I’ve been wanting to make a black stocking for some time, but I was conflicted as to whether it would seem dark and depressing, when I wanted it to be seen as more elegant and symbolic. One of my favorite Christmas hymns is “It Came Upon A Midnight Clear”, and that’s what I had in mind while making it.
“The world in solemn stillness lay . . .”
A crystal clear, silent night . . .
So I added some crystals!
The stocking features easy embroidery, only one piece to appliqué, and some hot-fix crystals. How (or even IF) you do the embroidery is up to you, the crystals are optional, the size can be reduced or enlarged, and the stocking can be flipped to point the other direction, if you wish (as with all the other stockings).
Silent Night is number 15 in the Prairie Moon Ranch Cowboy Christmas Stocking series. The pattern will be available in my Etsy shop by Monday, in PDF format only.

My sister was born 82 years ago today. I was 3 also as you. I do remember I got a doll early that morning.

Shelly, I remember the night 57 yrs ago very well. It was a very snowy stormy night. I was working the night shift, excited to help deliver a baby to the family I knew. A blessed event.
Ron was in Vietnam, and I enjoyed working.

Here in Maine we only got rain but huge power outages. One friend of mine may not have power til next Wednesday. Having the power on is a real powerful thing to be thankful for.
