Well, how did you do with the area around your machine?
I got my machine cleaned and serviced, and cleaned up the area around it before putting it back in place. Here’s the after picture:

I know it doesn’t look too much different than the before photo, but it really is more organized now. I took out a lot of stuff and put it away, bagged up some stuff to pass on to a friend, and the things that are left are various leader/ender projects that I want to move forward.
My Temecula Log Cabin (Down Home Darling) quilt is one of the most important that I’d like to finish, so that’s why it’s now front and center. Now that all the blocks are made, I’m anxious to get the top set together and finished.
This task, and some other things I worked on this past week or so, led me to easily decide on the next task. I guess I’m the “fall cleaning” mood. What I want to do for the next couple weeks is:
We’ve done this before. I’ve actually done it for an entire month at a time before, sometimes two weeks, and sometimes just a week. But it really helps move things out without being an overwhelming undertaking. Just one thing a day for the next 2 weeks. That’s only 14 things, if you think about it.
But if you’ve already decluttered extensively, finding things to get rid of gets more difficult as time goes on!
So I’m gonna be on the lookout and keep finding things to remove from my studio — and my house in general — this doesn’t have to apply to only the studio.
How about you? Do you think you can find 14 things to get rid of?
They can be things you give away, donate, throw away, sell, etc. Just so they’re no longer in your house and in your way, taking up space you could be using for something else. Less stuff you don’t want or need makes room for the stuff you DO want and need and need to find a place for.
My husband and I just moved 10 days ago to a house that is about half the size of our previous one. So, I spent the month prior to the move getting rid of things. Can I count the hundreds of things I got rid of for this studio challenge? Insert smiley face.
yes!!!!
I have been working on getting rid of things as I go. I have a box with 5 things in it so far. LOL So, I hope to get the 14 needed for the two weeks and continue on.
I will keep gathering things to donate but really need to take to thrift store!
excellent choice. Randy approved
Oh, so easy to find 14 things to get rid of even without counting the hundreds of pages of papers I need to zip.
I got my kitchen tables switched so I’ve cleaned out around my machine. I’ve been busy piecing batting for charity quilts and have created 4 so far and have 2 more needing to be sewn together. As for getting rid of an item a day, I highly doubt I do that. I’ve already purged a lot in switching bedrooms but have more to do in other rooms. What I’m more likely to do is a big one day pitching event…
Your space looks pretty organized to me. I’ve pretty much cleared the top of my secondary sewing table so making progress on that front. I’m feeling pretty good about my sewing space now and gearing up for a big end of the year push, i.e, the Christmas sewing is underway. Will I be able to finally see they my Christmas stash? (Not likely)
Yesterday I decided 3 specialized rulers, 4 old quilting videos and corresponding booklets can go. (That’s 11 items) Don’t think I’ll do one thing a day but anytime I come across something I don’t need it goes into the giveaway box. Have a load of stuff I’m taking to our retreat’s Flotsam jetsam table next week. What doesn’t get claimed will go to thrift store. Can’t wait to move it out of the garage. I think I’m bringing more to give away than I am to use!
I didn’t post earlier because, well, life, death and elections. 😢 I have 3 totes filled from 3 weeks of cleaning out my storage room and stash cupboard (fabrics, notions, trims, patterns, books, etc.) which are going to my Guild for the next fundraiser. 💃 Doing a happy dance up here 😉
