Well, September is over, and altho a bit too dry, it’s sure been beautiful, even with some really hot days thrown in. The sky is always so blue in September! And now on to October, which I’m hoping will be equally gorgeous.
I’m soaking up as much of it as I can outdoors, and at a much slower pace (which is highly uncharacteristic of me). My Cowboy has taken me for romantical drives, picnics, and errands, all in the name of keeping me occupied since I can’t work full time. Other times, I wander around outside with the dogs, play with the cats, pet my horse, and amble around the goat pen — and take naps! My Cowboy won’t let me do much else.
And even tho my life changed dramatically at the beginning of the month, I still managed to make 23 blocks in September!
I made some more 9-patches:

I made some more Maple Leaves:

I made the three final blocks of this table runner:

I also set together some guild exchange blocks into a donation top. My to-be-quilted pile grows larger, and I can’t really quilt right now! Uff!
Since I can basically only work on things I have already cut out, this is one time when it pays to have lots of UFOs! Not a good justification, really, but maybe I’ll finish up lots more while this is ongoing.
How about you? What did you get done in September?
It’s time to report in with your totals for this past month. I’ve got the Project Page updated as of this morning, so hopefully I have it all correct.
Our new block goal for October is another 31 blocks, which will get us to a yearly total of 289.
The prize winner for August is Cathy W.; she’s up to 382 blocks already! The rest of the year will be gravy for her!
I hope you had a lovely September, and are all ready for a wonderful October. Crisp air, falling leaves, more blue skies, and pumpkin everything! Happy stitching!
78 blocks for September, all but 9 were string or leftover strips. I love your tiny Maple Leaf blocks!
99 pretty simple blocks for September. My son surprised me with a used longarm. So, I have spent a lot of time learning how to use it and not much time making blocks.
September was pretty good for getting time to sew. I created 256 blocks for 6 projects. I’m very happy that I only need one more String block for my Guild Challenge quilt which is due in October. I thought those things were supposed to use up scraps and strings, not create more! I love the leaf tutorial and have created 5; Mother Nature is currently putting on quite the show for inspiration. I think October is going to be a block setting and quilting month. I hope you heal fast and don’t wear out your new tires cruising!
September brought 51 more blocks to the pile. Even better, those blocks were spread out and helped move several quilts towards finished tops. FINALLY! I had too many going what felt like nowhere for too long.
not to0 many blocks this month—I sewed almost every day but can’t remember what I sewed. I can remember 10 blocks.
17 blocks for this monthly count. Several blocks were sewn into a tablerunner with a Halloween theme. It’s a cute Pattern Basket design. Quilting to finish it and sending as a gift to my granddaughter is my first priority for October,
. September is a busy month with gardening chores. I love the flowers of fall and my chrysanthemums are blooming great colors this year.
Take good care of yourself, Shelly!!
Only 9 blocks. I made a determined effort to make the 9th one on September 30 and get back into the swing of things because sewing came to a halt early in September. Also, decided to do some hand sewing only to discovered the tension was wimpy on the binding I’d attached a couple years ago (oh, so close to finishing a UFO) – and it’s going back to the sewing machine to get the binding stitched again (the ongoing reason my machine ends up in the shop so often is the bobbin case). I’m glad to hear about your time outdoors. Your Cowboy is awesome!
Only 33 for me………….but I have lots of the cute little leaves cut out to work on in October! Love yours.
Still downsizing… I started sewing random scraps together, nothing in block size yet. I will count 2 blocks for September (doll blanket). Hope to have sewjo back this month.
Love your table runner … looking to make a runner for Thanksgiving this year.
I made 125 blocks this month. Like Shelly, working on a UFO that I had already cut and ready in a kit. Looking forward to fall and cool quilting days!
Absolutely nada for this year. I’ve been making bows with a fork to use on the wedding quilt instead of string ties. Decided after making 60 to just leave it as it is it is wool batting so it will be puffy instead. Plus I wanted to just get it finished. Oh well lots of little bows for gift decorations.
Sounds like life in the slower lane is pretty wonderful – romantic drives and picnics and just being with the animals. Almost as if the break is doing you good – excuse the pun! Plus a bit of sewing is wonderful. I feel the need to sew, just need that quilt out of the way and then I won’t feel so guilty. I do love your maple leaves too. xx
Mom fell and sustained two compression fractures in her lower back. Needless to say, not much time for quilting. Did make 5.
Total for September is 16. Starting keeping a list so I would not forget. More for Oct; I am already on a roll! The only problem with small quilt projects is that you cut small pieces, which leaves a lot on the strip for another. Just found a project which uses strips; it will be my next to try. One day….log cabins.!!
I made 125 blocks in September. Hopefully, I can make more in October.
69 for me. I hope you enjoy the quiet days of resting and healing!
An even 100 blocks….busy using up all my scraps!
I mad 91 blocks in September for a YTD total of 1239. I’m so impressed that you’re still able to sew even with a broken wing, especially those tiny maple leaf blocks!
I made 21 in September but moved some flimsies closer to completion. So many projects so little time!
I’m getting there slowly but surely enjoying the journey.
Sept was another slow month for me…..only 18 blocks. I must have been following your lead except for the picnics, animals, and taking drives. 🙂 Hopefully, October’s retreat will help to get me closer to making the end of the year amount.
Just a total of 14 blocks for me for September; 5 for my guild quilt along BOHO Heart quilt and 9 for an autumn leaf wall hanging for a Christmas present.
I hope you get back to full strength soon, Shelly. I know how hard it is for you to sit still!
My month was better than I expected with working for our Federal Elections, but I managed to make 96 blocks this month:
“Let your Star Shine #2 – 4 blocks
Let Your Star Shine #3 – 4 blocks
Roxy’s bed – 4
Falling Star Lap Quilt – 16
W. Pattern Test – 49
U.S. Pattern Test – 19”
My numbers were really helped by having 2 pattern tests to do!
My yearly total is now 591 blocks!

Hope you are continuing to heal and by the looks of all you managed I’m guessing you are improving.
Great job, Shelly, on having 23 blocks with your health issues. I had 26 this month. I made 16 blocks when I stitched on “Sew a Jelly Roll Day,” 6 pumpkind blocks for a guild demo, 2 Springtime blocks and 2 Snowmen blocks w/ Jacqueline Steves’ quilt-along. Have made lots of trips to my in-laws’ home this month, so I don’t think that was too bad. Thanks again for organizing this! I really enjoy it!
Oh, I hate reading that you still can’t quilt. But at least you can do something! I have 9 blocks this month! But next month I should have that temperature quilt finally bound! Woo hoo! Making up for all may no show months! Take care!
This month I did a row quilt of squares = 11 blocks, a set of 35 string blocks and 30 more from some strip set leftovers. Total of 76 this time.
24 blocks done and finished two quilt tops. Such pretty little leaves you are making!
I managed to make 68 4-patch blocks and pieced a twin size quilt top. Besides that I quilted and bound 4 throw sized quilts and made 4 reversible nursing caps. I feel like I finally had a good month.
Hi all
I was able to made 249 blocks for September and spent 2 1/2 days cleaning my back porch. I gave scraps and paper piles uncontrolled. Happy seeing for the month of October.
Well life got in the way so only managed to complete 35 blocks.
A full month of school means less time for sewing, but I still managed to finish 28 blocks in September. Spent time quilting some projects at the end of the month, so I have not made any maple blocks yet, though I have a bunch cut out to sew as soon as I get back to piecing. Sounds like you are making the best of the situation–romantic drives, picnics, time with the animals!
So glad you get the enjoyment of all the Cowboy is doing for you. Know he is enjoying it too!
I had 38 this month and that is with only 14 from the 365 quilt. So behind. But I’m proud I have been able to have made the goal. Looking forward to October.
34 for Sept. I had planned for more, but maybe October will be more productive 🙂
Keep enjoying a more relaxing time while you heal. It does get frustrating at times but so worth it. My August/September total is 76. I made 6 more blocks for my scrap quilt Twirling at the Disco and found a UFO that needed out of here-70 blocks! An easy jelly roll quilt (Jimmy John from Jo’s Country Junction blog) started in either 2014 or 2015 when we were remodeling and I needed easy for motel sewing. Probably 2015 as we were out of the house for shorter periods of time. Anyway it is now done-top anyway! Spent some time in the kitchen too-canned pickled Jalapenos.
38 blocks
31 blocks for me
I did ok the first part of the month – 174 crumb 3 1/2” blocks, 5 fish l&e blocks, & 3 hand stitched maple leaf blocks. Look forward to doing more! Get better each day.
Not a great sewing month – I had time out for a holiday and then various social groups I help with started up again first time since lockdown. I’m enjoying your little Maple leaf block and have made 7 so far. I usually do a charity BoM challenge but September’s had 36 HSTs each so I only managed 2. Total = 9. Aiming to do better next month…. I’m so impressed with what you’ve been able to achieve. Keep on with the resting and healing up too!
I have made 212 blocks this month. 101 of those were for a quilt for charity made out of plaid stuff. Should fit a man!!! 14 of the blocks were for the Springtime in Arrow Rock quilt. You keep us going, Shelly!!!!
Eight blocks made in September. Slow progress is better than none. Happy Thanksgiving, I hope it is a healthy, happy and safe holiday for everyone.
it seems like i went to bed and got up the next day and the month was gone……the days just fly by and i have not even got to smell the flowers….
i was able to get 369 blocks done and a couple of quilts sent to the machine quilter so that i can have them for christmas……
i will be so glad to have my sewing room….which i am working on so that i can sew sew and sew some more….
hope everyone is getting lots done……i am off to wrap some christmas gifts…
happy quilting everyone
No blocks for me, though I did manage to do my first jelly roll race quilt this month, after reading your post on it. Thanks for the motivation! Hope you continue to heal and feel better. Take care!
Zero this month. I had good intentions, but sidetracked with cleaning and finishing quilts. However, I did get to visit grandkids for several days which brightens my life. Hope to get back on track this month. Surprised you managed to get so many blocks done when you are injured. You inspire all of us to do better.
12 blocks for September. Finished a lot of project in September; but, very little in the way of starts. Eight of those 12 were tiny leaves!
I’m sure you feel like you are not getting much done in your laid up status, but I’m impressed with what you manage to do! Good time to enjoy time with your cowboy too!
As far as blocks for this month for me, it’s only 2! I couldn’t even believe it because I have been working on projects. I did finish 2 quilts, one of them took many hours of quilting decorative stitches on my DM. It doesn’t look great for number of blocks for Oct. 😱
I am pleased to get some finishes tho!
Slow month. Deck building and canning took the forefront. But did get 21 done.
76 blocks for September.
That includes 2 ( finished )T-shirt quilts and yet another Chandelier table runner this one is Halloween themed. If you’re interested you can see pictures of my work on Instagram @7sistersquilting.
Also I got to spend time this month with kids and grandkids. 😁
The weather sounds beautiful from your description. Really busy here, still learning the new website, which leave not a lot of sewing time. So September’s total was 12 blocks. I am hoping our upcoming retreat will see an increase of blocks for October.
I made 63 blocks for three different quilts. I put one quilt together at the retreat and added borders at home. I hope your elbow is healing well.
Little late in posting. Had to think about what I’d done for September. 18 pyramid blocks, 16 pineapple blocks and 20 log cabin blocks.
It’s good to see that you were able to get a little sewing in. Hopefully you will fully recover more quickly than you expect.
I sewed up 51 blocks this month, but they went into 2 quilts that I also finished, so I’m thrilled with that!
178 blocks completed
I made 49 blocks last month.
They were tedious… 16 block squares of two and a half inch squares! They look great when done tho!
Sadly “9” blocks for September from a quilt class! Sewing space as seen a HUGE clean up. Hubby bought me a new husky tool cabinet w/awesome 9 drawers of storage/ built in outlet strip for using as my ironing station/ cutting station.
I sure hope you are feeling better.
17 blocks for me. Glad to hear you are coping well and hope the healing goes well.
49 blocks for me this month. It’s been slow going but I am trying to sew a few minutes each day. A new baby will arrive in February. I have to get going on a baby quilt, burp cloths, etc.
I have 12 blocks for September.
Hey Shelly, You can mark me down for a big zero for September. That might be a first for me. On the up side I’ve bought a lot of new fabric this summer, just haven’t had time to cut into it yet.
I’m late!
12 new blocks for me for a total of 599 this year.

Sorry to be so slow reporting in , but I had 144 blocks.

=242 for the year so far. Boy, I sure thought I was doing better than this, but mostly I’ve been quilting last year’s projects !
Sorry for way late reporting. In September, I sewed only one quilt block.
