October 350 Blocks Report

Posted on October 31, 2015 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

I blinked, and October is over. Today is Halloween.

For my own blocks this month, I get a big fat ZERO!

I hope all of you did better than I did.

I need 104 more blocks to reach 350 this year. Guess I’ll be doing lots of sewing the next couple months! I do have one more retreat coming up this year, and a couple more sew days with friends — maybe those will help.

I’ve been sewing — a LOT — but since I only count blocks that help me in whittling down my UFOs in this project, I don’t get to count anything I’ve done.

So it’s time for you all to report in. Send me your numbers, and I’ll get them added to the Project page, where I’ve updated our goals for November. We’re making another 30 blocks, for a yearly total of 320 now. We’re getting closer! I’m so anxious to find out if we can break last year’s records.

The winner of the prize package for September is KT, who is well on her way to 400 blocks with a current total of 390 — woohoo!

I’m already looking ahead to next year, so I’m asking for your input. If you think we should do this again in 2016, pipe up and let me know. I’m thinking about changing it up a little bit, so if you have any suggestions or ideas, let me know those, too.

And if your name is Doreen, and you contacted me about the project, please try again, because I’m having trouble emailing you back — I promise I’m not ignoring you, I just don’t have a way to contact you!

I had a productive month. I made 98 blocks for Oct.

Yes, I’d like to see this program continue in 2016 please.

  3. Betty K says:

I have completed 46 blocks for Oct. My first real sewing since moving and my heart attack. Sewing room is a long way from being together but works for now. Joined a bee here in Texas and we are making quilts for the people in Bastrop County fire and now most likely for some people flooded out with this enormous amount of rain.

I made 35 blocks this month. And that was with only one good weekend of stitching. Where does the time go?

  6. I’m on vacation and just popping in to ask that I put me down for 27 blocks for October. Thanks!

  7. Doreen Haywood says:

I was just wondering it you are going to be doing the 350 blocks again in 2016, I would be interested in participating.

  8. Susan says:

My October Post for 18 blocks. If I only counted things that whittle my UFO pile, I’d have about 20 blocks for the entire year! Thanks for helping me realize that I DO something even when it feels like I haven’t.

  9. Kathy says:

I was able to get 38 blocks done for October. Not feeling so hot lately. I did have surgery the 9th and will have the other eye done next week the 5th of November. hopefully I will feel a lot better after that. I am making a 48×48 table cloth with a big turkey in the center. Don’t know how I will count that one. Yes there are 8″ squares in the background but they are plain. How do I count the turkey? Do I count them anyway?

  10. Cynthia says:

October’s Total is 40. Yes please look forward to continuing in 2016. This project has shown me that I am making progress through my projects.

  11. Martha Cushman says:

I surprised myself by finishing 65 blocks! (I made 4 quilts for kids who are victims of the Lake fire here in California. Yeah!

  12. Linda Knight says:

I managed 26 blocks this month. Actually I did more but last month I was not home and I guessed wrong about my total so I deducted those this month so my yearly total will be right. It’s a good thing I had those cut out already or I wouldn’t have done that many. But any time in the quilt room is good therapy. I did get two small quilts quilted and bound.

  13. Cindy says:

I managed to get 61 blocks made in October. For a year to date total of 564. I have a bunch of tops finished that I need to quilt. I would like to lean towards getting that accomplished and working on Christmas gifts in November.

  14. Pam in KC says:

I pulled out Sew Scrappy and finished up 20 blocks bringing my total to 604 for the year. 40 more blocks to go on this UFO.

  15. JanetD says:

I managed 22 this month. I think there were a few blocks in there I had to rip and resew 2 or 3 times, but only counted when I got it finished and correct. Never had so much trouble with flying goose blocks before.

  16. Deanna says:

Eighteen for me this month for a total of 363 so far this year. At least I made the 350 goal and have two months to go. Keeping track helps keep me on track. I can see progress even when it feels very little is happening.

  17. randy says:

perhaps a bunch pf 4 patches for future borders. I am just back from retreat. I am too far from the phone to post the photos… But let me tell you I met my quota.

  18. KT says:

I’ve enjoyed keeping track of blocks made–it’s fun to see the numbers add up, so would definitely do it again if you continue. Change is also good, and I’m sure you have good ideas for how to change things up! My total for October was 55.

  19. Beverly Vendt says:

October was a zero for me also. I need to get a lot done this month.

  20. randy says:

I think I would like to join altho I hate to count…. For October I had 79 plus 35 plus 20
I may not get 350 but add me to your score.

FAll has hit and my machine engine is roaring.

  21. Karen says:

My count for October is 40 blocks and a total of 609 blocks for the year so far. I am pleased with my October count because I was on vacation for two weeks and I didn’t do any sewing. I would like to see this continue because I didn’t realize how much I was really sewing until I kept track of the blocks.

  22. Janet V says:

I manage to get 183 blocks done this month

  23. Andrea O'Brien says:

I made 91 blocks. I would also like for this project to continue, even if you change it up a little!

  24. Sue Hook says:

    I completed 185.

  25. Delana says:

My October count is 18. Yes, I would like to do this again next year. It helps to keep me accountable. Change is fine

Sigh. Yes, I’m a ZERO this month too.

  27. Julie in GA says:

I ended up with 67 blocks for October.
I hope you keep the challenge going in 2016, and I look forward to hearing about any changes.

  28. Marsha Yahl says:

I finished 12 blocks this month. It’s been a busy month with harvest. The last two weeks I have been organizing my fabric stash and sewing area so no sewing until I finish!

  29. Elaine Walker says:

Rather late again, but I have a large number of blocks to report. 123 blocks, most of them from
one completed quilt top. And a great quilt retreat for four days.

  30. janequiltsslowly says:

I am catching up because I think I missed reports for awhile:
    August – 7 blocks
    September – 25 blocks
    October – 44 blocks

The garden is finally winding down and I’m trying to finish last year’s Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt before the next one starts! I only have to sew on the narrow border and add the outside pieced one. I guess that’s my procrastination challenge this month!

  31. Delana says:

    shelley,
Just checked your total against mine. It seems like maybe I must have emailed you my counts to the wrong place. oops! Here is what I have:
    May–65

    Aug–131
    Sept–6
    Oct–18

    Sorry about email boo boo.
    Thanks,
    Delana

  32. katie z. says:

I’ve enjoyed the 350 block count every year, so I’m game again.

    I had 128 new blocks for a total of 1147. http://zanasninis.blogspot.com/2015/11/october-block-count.html

I find I don’t have many UFOS but more WIPs, so I just keep counting the blocks I make. I’m happy to adjust to whatever you’d like for next year.

  33. Terri Gross says:

I have 20 blocks for Oct.

  34. Bobbi says:

It took me a while to get my blocks counted for this month. I made 94 blocks in October for a total of 1044 blocks so far this year.
