June Studio Organizing

Hi! I’ve missed you all! I can’t even find time to sit down and write a blog post!

But I’m pushing everything else aside for the moment to offer up our next Studio Organizing Challenge, since I need one for my ownself.

I love the variety you all came up with for the last one, when I gave us all the option to choose our own task. Some great ideas in there!

I did get my bookcase all loaded back up, which did away with so many piles in the floor, it was like a breath of fresh air. Not that I don’t still have way too many piles in the floor, but having the bookcase sure helped!

I also cleaned out several more piles and rearranged a few things when my new INNOVA longarm came to live here (while that end of the room was completely empty).

And I’ve moved a few more small things over from the old house, but there’s still some things I need to decide on, so they’re still over there waiting for me to muster up the energy to do something about them.

I feel like I’ve been repeating myself way too much with the tasks lately, so it’s time to regroup and freshen up the tasks a bit.

And here’s what I need to do this time:

When I moved in here, I organized all my notions, got rid of most of the duplicates, and put things where I thought it made the most sense for me. I told myself I’d give it a year, and then go through it all again and see if what I did is actually working for me, or if there’s anything else I can simply get rid of. One year ago, although we were far from moved in, on June 8th, we spent our first night in our new house, so it’s time to go through that drawer and see if anything needs to happen to make it even more convenient for me.

It’s also a good time to take stock of things. Do you need more marking pencils? Some new rotary cutter blades? Do any of your scissors need sharpening? Are there any tools you need to get rid of to free up some space? Are there things you should relocate somewhere different that will make them easier to use? Anything missing that you’d really like to have? Make some notes so you can get those things taken care of (or give yourself a reason to go to the quilt shop!).

Here’s my notions drawer as it is right now:

I don’t expect things to change a whole lot, but I’ll give you an after shot next time.

Are your notions in order? Or is it time to go through them and get them organized again?

If you have any good notion organization tips to share, I’m sure we’d all love to hear them, too, so leave a comment!

PS: I got those little clear trays on Amazon HERE. There were a lot of them, and I’ve been using them everywhere in my house!

Good choice! I tend to buy multiples of notions, usually one spare and one for my sister. The only notion I have a gazillion is seam rippers! Always misplacing them in my aprons, fabric piles, recliner, even found one in my car! I like your clear trays- I have black ones in my kitchen junk drawer- sometimes it look like a pit of darkness! Didn’t want white as being rural a lot of dust blows in the house. That’s my excuse anyway!

Wow! Your drawer looks a hundred times better than any of mine!

I have been working on shredding papers. I did this back in 2020, but now they have grown. I still keep most receipts not gotten use to Cloud yet.

I’m in the middle of removing items that have been dumped in the sewing room that have no business being in there in the first place! Frustrating! But the floor has been vacuumed – so that’s a plus!

Lately I’ve been thinking that I could look at my notions and clear out the excess and maybe reorganize…but I don’t wanna 😂😂😂 I’m just gonna sew, cause they are really acceptable and it’s a distraction from getting my UFOS outta here. (I have this belief that I can sew my way out of the excess, which may be a big lie!) Making some progress on UFOS but each project reinforces the idea that making quilts is not quick, and I keep starting new projects. Let’s not even talk about all the tops that need longarming! Your space is really shaping up! I bet it’s fun having a new longarm.

I use shoe bags on the back of closet doors to organize notions I don’t need often. That might be pigma pens, sandpaper dots for the back of rulers, etc. It works well.
