July Studio Organizing, Task One

Well! I sure hope you all did better with the last challenge than I did. In fact, I think my cutting table actually looks worse than it did before I started!!

You can see the before photo HERE.

Here is its current state as of this morning:

Ugh! Not a lot of difference, even with Thelma’s help!

Here’s what happened . . .

Instead of clearing everything off the table, I decided to try and work my way through it all. Evidently, a terrible plan, because that takes waaaayyyy too long.

So let’s try something a bit more do-able this time, shall we?

Clean out one drawer/box/bin/shelf

Just one. Choose something that’s bothering you, yet might be easy enough to tackle and make a difference.

That’s where I’m at. I need to do something that is fairly easy, yet will make a difference. It might be quite a trick to find that thing, but that’s our challenge this time.

I’m trying to finish up lots of older things, and in the process, end up with fewer project bins stacked around. I think I might choose a bin (or two or three) to empty out. Or maybe there’s a drawer I need to rearrange. I’m sure I can find something! How about you?

And I think before I start, I might give the cutting table a once-over, and at least put away the things that can be put away elsewhere and see if that makes any little difference. It might at least give me room to do some cutting for the projects that remain!

Understand not getting anywhere with organizing or clearing. I am still dealing or not dealing with boxes of stuff from moving. I’d rather be piecing, reading, knitting, crocheting, or ? Did get four items hung on the wall. Harold is willing but I am not getting decisions made. I do seam to keep my cutting table clear but I am not sewing as much as your are. Have a good go at the projects you choose.

LOL! In spite of my “no sewing until it is tidy rule” – well, it was – for about 5 minutes. At the moment mine looks exactly like yours including the cat! Merlin likes doing the princess and the pea by sleeping on the 2 folded quilts I’ve got waiting for the binding. I had to put a cloth bag over the top so that muddy foot prints wouldn’t be transferred. As for Smokey, he sleeps on the office chair which has a practice quilt pad. Good job I’m standing up a lot, cutting away – and then I get head booped and have to stop cutting in case I trim a paw!

  3. My cutting and pressing tables are normally clear, especially since you did your challenge a few years ago. I keep them clear unless I have a project that I’m focusing on, and then I try to straighten it up before bed.
I think I need to work on my desk and see if I can streamline it to make me happier with my environment.

  4. Ok, I’m in.
We’ll see. I’ve been tending to so much outside chores and accumulated my moms quilting remains to now incorporate into mine. (which essentially is a quilt shop at home!).
    Now to pick just one……🤞

Gone. But the cutting/ironing table only has the ironing pad on it. I at least got that done before leaving. Also got a quilt finished except for tying, which I am hoping to get done while I am gone.

After had to clean/hide sewing stuff while granddaughters here, now camping to escape. But back tomorrow so can work on 3 quilts for one sister & 1 for another unless i get distracted (shiney) by a new project! Will try to focus!

I think your tables looks a smidge better😊. I’ll have to admit my chosen June task has not been tackled either. I think I’ll try to focus on just putting away fabric that is not needed. At minimum I will put away the leftovers from my leader ender project so I can use the bin to set up another.

My cutting table stays clean because of your challenge last year along with the ironing board too.
I have a file drawer in my sewing desk that needs to be cleaned out. Have no idea what’s in there. Love your idea of a couple of challenges a month. It really is doable and seems to stick.

Maybe if you clean out a drawer/box/bin/shelf you can refill it with the stuff from the cutting table ;).
