July 350 Blocks Report

Posted on August 1, 2021 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

I’d like to say that I got a lot of sewing done this month because the heat kept me inside in the air conditioning, but since our AC is broken, and I’m scrambling to finish up my next BOM program, I’ve actually been doing a full Sweat ‘n’ Sew daily routine, and not in the form of an intentional workout!

Because I worked so hard on the BOM, I got 94 blocks made this month! Lots of those were leader/ender blocks I made while working on the BOM blocks.

Here’s a tiny sneak peek of the BOM; be sure and check back in real soon, because it will make its debut within the next couple weeks, and I’m so excited for you to see it!

I also made a few more 9-patch blocks:

. . . and a few more 36-patch blocks — quite tropical, these ones!

Now that the BOM is nearly finished, I hope to get back to more UFOs and scrap quilts next month. I also desperately want to take a few days off, but I can pretty much tell already that it won’t happen. I’m on the verge of burnout, but I see no good place to take any breaks. I think the heat is getting to my brain!

How did you do? It’s time to report in with your totals for July.

Our new block goal for August is 31 blocks, for a year-so-far total of 228 blocks. So many of us are well over that already, which is so exciting for our yearly total!

I have the Project Page updated as of this morning. As usual, double-check your numbers to make sure I’m not cheating you out of any blocks. There have evidently been a couple of reports that have not made their way through the interwebs and found me.

Fran is our June prize winner. She’s up to 1084 blocks so far — woohoo! That’s a crazy number!

Stay cool, and happy stitching in August! Seriously . . . August??????

Great month for me. 18 blocks.

  2. Sally H says:

Just 30 for me this month, and that completes two lap quilts.

  3. Randy Menninghaus says:

    45

  4. Karen E. says:

Beautiful blocks, Shelley! I’m such a wuss about the heat, I can’t imagine sewing in the heat, even though I grew up in the country w/o ac.

I made 161 blocks during July, which I think brings me to YTD total of 1072. Many were 4” blocks, but they’re not always any faster for me than bigger blocks, it seems.

  5. Fran says:

I love seeing pictures of your blocks. So sorry about your air conditioner. I had 119 blocks in July.

  6. Crystal F says:

45 blocks fir me…working in some baby quilts.

  7. Add 40 more blocks for me. Thanks.

  8. Amanda M. says:

I had 27 blocks for 5 different projects which 4 are leaders and enders. I also got 3 Project Linus quilts finished in July! I’m making progress on the Pinwheel baby quilt! I wish the heat wouldn’t sap my motivation so much.

  9. Beverly says:

I made only 8 finished, but I have a LOT cut to sew this month. 5 were 16, two 1/2 inchers. I have a zillion more to make for 2 double quilts for my daughter.

Hope you can get the AC going…. The humidity is miserable!

  10. denniele says:

You had a great month! Sorry to hear about the AC…never any fun! I had 32 blocks this month! Soon the temperature quilt will be ready to add in! LOL

  11. Louise says:

Only 12 blocks for me this month, but I quilted and bound 11 projects ranging in size from mug rugs to large lap size quilts. I wouldn’t have gotten as much done if it hadn’t been so hot all month.

  12. christopher thomas says:

well i hope i can post this one…..i have not been able to post of the last 2 post…

I got 436 blocks done this last month….was in hope to do more but the job got in my way……but since i have been called back to work gives me a little more money to buy fabric……

    happy quilting one and all

  13. Debbi says:

Shelly the sneak peak at your new BOM is so darn cute! I may be tempted to start something new😱.

I managed to make 27 blocks in July and quilted 2 baby quilts and then broke my Longarm🥲. Waiting on a part but should be an easy fix. Not bad for a month I had to have surgery and multiple other medical appointments.

I’m looking for a big count soon as I get my leader ended to the block stage it’s so fun how it it coming along as I work on my BOMs and other projects.

Hope you get some cooling relief soon!

  14. Kathy says:

    Love your BOM.
I managed to complete 35 blocks this month.

  15. Mary D. says:

I only have 7 blocks for the month. I made the Village quilt top like a lot of people were doing during the pandemic and finished it up this month for my granddaughter’s birthday. She wanted her name on the back, so the 7 blocks spelled out her name, Addison. Other than that, all I’ve done is work on customer quilts, just two left and one of those is just about to the finish line. Yippee!!

  16. KT says:

Another good month for me–I finished 69 blocks! Looking forward to seeing your new BOM!

  17. Becky Cogan says:

I’ve made 40 blocks this month. Working on making some tote bags now. Keep us motivated.

  18. Sandi Scarlett says:

I did 40 blocks for July. Working on a baby quilt. Had to pack up my sewing room as I’m getting new floors.

  19. Julie M. says:

I was able to get 40 blocks done in July. Sorry about your AC hope it is back working soon

  20. Sharon Gratz says:

AAACCCKKKKK I love little bitty blocks and your sample is so cute!!!! I’ll be checking in on that one. And your tropical 36 patches? Beauties!!!!! Oh, yeah, I made 31 blocks in July. I’m such a go-getter. LOL

  21. Elaine Walker says:

My count for July is 78 blocks. Half of these were one quilt top started and finished. A few finished up a wedding quilt for a granddaughter. I made two wall hangings and five table runners. Lots of sewing😀

  22. My count for July was 59 blocks, giving me a ytd total of 350 blocks!
    https://quiltschmilt.ca/2021/07/31/july-block-report-2/
I did manage to finish 5 quilts on the longarm and 3 scrappy quilt tops for the Quilts for Lytton Drive. Hope it cools off for you soon and you manage some time off. Burnout isn’t fun.
I’m doing a happy dance. We must have had 6 raindrops fall today officially breaking our drought but not doing much for the wildfires. 😢

  23. Christi Bentley says:

Only 47 for me this month. My sewing time seemed to keep getting interrupted. I finished the star blocks for a border on a quilt and got them sewed on, did 10 spool blocks for a quilt, and a couple of leader/enders to even things out. I did get some things finished. I’m very curious to see your new BOM. I wasn’t going to start anything new, but maybe……….. I did count 10 empty project boxes stacked in the closet, so…..

  24. Not as busy as you, but pretty tied up with family. I only made 7 this month. Maybe next month I’ll do better. But I have been quilting – finished 2 and working on 2 more. You can see them at my blog.

  25. Paula says:

My count is 3! Hand sewn no less – I have been purging again…I have two more zoom classes one in August one in September… really gonna try not to do anymore classes – I really feel the need to re-evaluate what this craft means to me and where I want to go with it…

  26. Joan says:

Completed 8 blocks this month. Rediscovered an English paper piecing project that needs two more hand stitched blocks. Those take a while to do, and then there will be all the hand stitching to put the whole lot together–sigh!

Your leaf block is so fun–Fall’s on the way with cooler weather and hopefully some much needed rain.

  27. Suelynn Williams says:

I am happy to report 18 blocks made, and my machine is home from the repair shop! I like all the blocks you showed us!

  28. Marlene Clausen says:

99 blocks = 1 QOV top and a birthday gift. I finally finished a BOM that had been a UFO since mid-2019. All that was needed was hand embroidery one block, quilt, and bind. It’s a “small-ish” baby quilt and no reason for not finishing it earlier! Won’t be much piecing this month. One more QOV top before I mail that box and the rest are UFO’s with the hope of piecing a large wall hanging w/Kaffe fabric for myself.

  29. Debra Freese says:

    42 total for July.
Including 2 sample blocks ( good thing I made test blocks because I will probably not make any more of those.)
25 blocks to finish up the Betsy Quilt.
15 scrapy plus blocks for a Christmas gift.

  30. Ceil Podzimek says:

I had 70 blocks for July, all of them to finish up my Swirled Heart top. So happy it’s finished. I realized when reading all the comments that I haven’t been counting the leader/ender blocks I’ve done. Oh well! Shelly, I don’t know how you guys are surviving without AC. I would be a sweat puddle and wouldn’t accomplish anything!

  31. Kathi B says:

I was happy I completed 34 blocks this month!

  32. Judy Sovereign says:

Had a good month and got 107 done.
    Judy Sovereign

  33. Coralie Wallace says:

July block count is 4 blocks. 8 others nearly done but they will be finished in August. Hand quilting two baby quilts. Feeling very lethargic lately, maybe it’s because of the smoke in the air along with the heat. I hope everyone has a good month.

  34. Diana S says:

Am loving your blocks Shelly. I was a squirrel this month. Went from one thing to another! I did get 4 quilts bound for Linus. Some placemats made for us, but then I went from one thing to another! I did finish 23 blocks for one project, 2 for another (Mega Illusion) and then started a scrappy project using 4 patch and 16 patch. 2 are completed and more in various stages. Total count for July 27. Will take it!

  35. Diane says:

Thrilled to report 207 blocks for me. None of them are complicated. 44 for my Rolling 9-Patch which finishes out this project. Then there is the Flag Project which has turned into sew much more. 43 Flag Blocks, 86 Rail Fence Blocks 27 9-Patch blocks and 7 36 Patch Blocks. Now to finish something. Or several somethings. Try to keep cool. I’m a wuss when the temps and humidity rise. Thinking good thoughts.

  36. Maxine E says:

47 blocks completed for July. Completed a baby quilt top and working on a BOM. I have to now sandwich and quilt the baby quilt because the baby arrived early!

  37. Barb Roberts says:

My July number is 121. Thanks, Barb

  38. Wendy Tuma says:

I managed to eke out 69 blocks in July. That polka dot 9-patch is adorable! That little leaf block is teensy, but cute! You’ve had a good month!

  39. Kathleen Gansert says:

I love the tiny Maple Leaf block. The Dimples fabric works perfectly.

  40. Linda Knight says:

I managed 24 blocks this month and quilted and bound 2 throw sized quilts. Everything else in my life seems to be requiring most of my time.

  41. Cindy Wienstroer says:

Not too many for me either since hand sewing an UFO still but did get 13 long strip blocks & 13 leader & enders. Made a baby quilt – sewed blocks together & quilted it for a friend.

  42. Clara says:

    14 blocks
Summertime and the activities of my day are focused on gardening. So the quilt block count is minimal ;(.
I’ve followed your example and started a leader/ender project. Maybe next month the count will be greater.

  43. Deanna says:

It has been a productive summer. An additional 53 blocks. Grand total so far: 714. Thank you for helping me see my progress.

  44. Paula Mu says:

I did pretty well this month. 130 blocks! Yea! I had 9 from Days Filled with Joy Christmas mystery, 25 Riley Black setting blocks, 80 Homespun blocks and 16 for an Atkinson project. Total so far is 658 and I am pleased with that. Thanks again for running this project!

  45. Shirley Guier says:

I got 2 more baby quilts done and I will count them as 24 blocks. Some were hard and some were a 4 patch so they even each other out
I also just finished quilting Cascade but dont know if I ever turned in any blocks for it. I did a lot easier quilting than you did. Since I cant remember I wont count any blocks for it.

  46. Sounds like you were busy in July. Hope the AC is fixed. I got 20 blocks done. I wonder what August is going to be like sewing wise.

  47. Shirley B says:

My total for July was a whopping 8 blocks. Maybe August will be more productive.

  48. Christine Thomas says:

I made 24 blocks in July. Hope you can get the AC fixed!

  49. Marsha Parkhill says:

    16 blocks for July

  50. Marsha Y. says:

Wow Shelly, I don’t think I would have made it through July without A/C and you did a ton of sewing. I did get 46 blocks finished, set together, quilted and gifted on Sunday!!! I could have finished twice that many with all the ripping I did putting it together! Hoping August will be better, but have to finish some machine quilting projects first before piecing blocks. Pray you get A/C fixed soon.

  51. Carissa says:

I was working on string blocks this month, which was nice because they don’t require much thought! I sew up 81, which is over half of what I need. 🙂

  52. Barbara B says:

    124 blocks

  53. Rose Marie Smith says:

I only finished 14 blocks this month. But that is not a bad idea to slow down sometimes. Hear that, Shel?

  54. Darlene says:

Where did July go….I made no blocks! I have parts & pieces nothing complete. Ironed, folded and cut a lot of fabric trying to clean up sewing area. I can’t wait to see your new BOM ! Hoping August will have more sewing time.

  55. Raewyn says:

Great sewing! I too am looking forward to seeing your new BOM. I didn’t report in June so here is my combined June/July total – 48. More than I thought so I guess that’s something!!!

  56. Stephanie says:

I spent a lot of July away on retreats, which = lots of piecing! My block total is 133, spread over 5 different projects.

  57. Ginabeth says:

A little late but I had 28 blocks this month. Behind on my 365 so did not reach goal of 31. But my daughter and family came to visit. Love those grandkids!

  58. katie z. says:

I made 137 blocks in July, to make a total of 539 for the year. I was all ready to get my posts written this week for the month, but the baby has been really sick again, so I’m not on track!
    http://zanasninis.blogspot.com/2021/07/july-350-block-count.html

  59. I ended up with 97 blocks for the month of July.
Cute little maple leaf block–can’t wait to see the BOM!

  60. Pam Desilets says:

I hope you have received my total for July. I made 1031 half and quarter triangles for a queen size quilt. Now to start putting them together.

  61. I have a total of 602. If I would get this one quilt finished, it would open up the long arm for me to finish the other quilt tops I’ve made.

  62. Judy Smith says:

It looks like I have a big fat zero for July. I finished some quilts, learned a new quilting system and played a lot.
