Here we are . . . heading into my two favorite months of the year. I sure hope they’re more productive for me than the last two have been!
At least I’m now able to rotary cut again! I can’t do it for very long at one time, but at least I can do it. It can only get better from here, right?
My mojo has been coming and going. Mostly going. I did not accomplish much in August. I only made one more block for my Mad Dash quilt.
And I struggled mightily at the very end (as in yesterday afternoon) to finally finish up all these little Log Cabin blocks so I could finally count them.
![]()
Since they were chain pieced one log at a time, they all got done at the same time, and now I need to get started setting them together. There are 208 of these little cuties, and I think I have a plan for the setting. These were done from a quilt-along over at Temecula Quilt Company called Down Home Darling.
So my total for August is 209. Had I not finished those Log Cabins, I’d only have one!
I’ve completely ignored everything else in my studio, except for running the longarm, so I did finish up 2 1/2 customer quilts, but I’m even going super slow at that right now.
Maybe my two favorite months will bring my mojo back? I’ve heard lots of other quilters say they’re having the same problem right now — wonder what that’s all about?
Anyway, another month is over, and it’s time to report in with your block totals for August. Were you in a slump, too? Or did you manage to get some stitching done?
I have the Project Page updated as of this morning. Our September goal is another 30 blocks for a total of 257 on the year.
The July prize winner is Wanda. She’s up to 217 blocks so far. Our group has run the gamut this year from lots of zeros some months, to way up in the hundreds some months, so I’ll be anxious to see what our year-end statistics are this time!
I hope you are able to wrap up your summer in the exact way you want to, and have a lovely beginning to your fall. Happy stitching!
35 blocks for August – large 14″ quarter logs. Emptied one of the QIM boxes, yet the brown fabric bin still has a good variety for the next quilt.
117
I managed 46 large blocks, mostly 4 patches, to piece a throw from some more scraps and leftover pieces. Other than that, I quilted and bound 5 throws size quilts.
Blocks august
29
Not even one block for me this month, but I did longarm five quilts.
42 blocks for me this month. I hope next month is better.
I have 30 blocks! I have reshuffled my area, nearly touched everything I have been “storing” for when I retire. Having retired 7 years ago, it appears it is time to let go, so touching everything has been interesting. One pile for my sister, the other for a local thrift store, which I will have her go through first, just in case I miss judged what she might like to “store”! I signed up for AG Mini SAL … maybe working small will get me working big again. Hang in there Shelly!
I have zero blocks for this month. I had my second knee (left) done August 4. I did get one quilt’s binding finished. Next month I hope will be better.
Zero for me, as I am still on the road. Redoing some of my displays, which requires some sewing by hand, since I don’t have a sewing machine with me. I have lots of plans for when I get back to my machine.
Ten blocks for me during August. Better than zero, right😉
I have 111 blocks done. But I have to brag that that one at the end of the number had 67 pieces in it! LOL
Quilting life is so much fun.
I’m glad you’re able to rotary cut again, Shelly. My August block count is 169 for a YTD total of 1574. Happy September! I’m looking forward to cooler weather.
got 50 blocks done
July total was 38 which I didn’t send you.
August total was 6…. 2 embroidered and took time…
I’m ready to sew for fall now.
Bev
I had a better month, with 94 for August. Woot! Woot!
Only 29 for me but oh yes! My two favorite months as well!! LOTS of blocks ahead!
This was a good month for me as I started and completed a top for my Granddaughter’s B’day in Sept. dropped it off at the Longarmer today too!
I had a total of 51 blocks of which twenty were from her quilt. So I feel satisfied with my stitching as my husband also had hernia surgery.
Thanks for doing this Shelly❣️ Pushing through those log cabin blocks is mojo in my book😍
I hope you find that mojo! I have 63 blocks for this month! Still working on the 2021 temperature quilt so I can’t count it yet! Ugh!!! And thank you for the lovely prize package that arrived today. You know I will use fabric…always and anytime!
Slow month for me – only 22 strip blocks for me. Did some others which count once done. Did get one small quilt quilted.
I had only 144 blocks, but I put together 7 quilt tops this month which I gave to the long arm quilter today. Getting all those quilt tops sewn made this a great month for me. I love making blocks, however, I do not really enjoy sewing them together to make a quilt top.
46 for me this month.
30 are for the Temecula Quilt company mini mystery.
I accidentally went to my library’s book sale a few weeks ago and snagged the quilt book “Worth Doing Twice” in which is the pattern for the “Pricilla” block.
I’ve made 16 so far. So…it’s the library’s fault. 😬
I was pleased with my numbers this month. I had 4 Blast from the Past blocks, 4 Blockheads, 8 Secret Life of Color, 59 Letters to Santa, 1 OSU mini quilt for a 6 inch frame, 2 Spicy blocks, 1 Sherry McConnell block of the month and 8 Summer Mystery blocks. If my math is correct that is 87 blocks for a total of 930.
Only 14 for me this month.
I created 46 blocks for 5 different projects. Those numbers stunned me as I didn’t spend much time sewing this past month. I’m glad to hear you’re able to use your cutter now! Your mojo will be back soon I imagine.
I’ve had a pretty good month even tho it feels like I haven’t sewed enough. I did a QAL and have all the blocks made (60), kept up with my temp quilt block (31), made 3 Blast from the past blocks, made a block for a pillow and made a 9-patch baby quilt flimsy (12).
Yeah! Total is 107!
Also longarmed one quilt and half of another that needs to be frogged cause half the tension got screwed up🤪.
And…I finished purging my books, magazines and patterns.
It’s good to have this accounting because I have this feeling that I’m not getting anywhere but actually it’s not too bad. Making slow progress on house projects too 🤪
I’m glad to hear that you are getting back to using your arms! Hang in there!
Such pretty little log cabin blocks. Those fabrics are fabulous. In August, I completed 15 blocks.
Finished one quilt and one quilt top! 13 blocks done this month. Seeing your Down Home Darling blocks and remembering how much fun it was to make those blocks and put the quilt together! Enjoy the process…
Isn’t it a great feeling to finish up an ongoing project! Your log cabins look great! I am finally back to quilting this month and sewed 54 blocks. Nothing remarkable, but a step in the right direction!
I did pretty good this month. 41 blocks for a medium size quilt and 21 for 2 baby quilts. So that’s 62 blocks
0 for August. Still unpacking and sorting and cleaning and arranging! I finally got the corner where my piecing/quilting action is. And, YEAH, a top I had pieced before I finished packing and moving had been sandwiched, was quilted. First quilt done in my new home!! Felt really good to do some quilting again. Yesterday I started cutting some re-purposed fabric for two quilts. Will finish cutting today and that means I should actually have some finished blocks (and maybe quilts!) for September.
I made 30 blocks this month.
I’m happy that you are making progress, even if it isn’t speedy it’s still moving in the right direction. For this month I did 212 blocks. I finished another quilt flimsy and along with 2 others, I sandwiched and quilted them, making 3 finished quilts. So So happy to say that I’m actually all caught up for the first time in over a year. What a great feeling to think about which project I wanted to do next. Went to a quilt chapter meeting and someone gave me 2 bags of scraps with tons of strings in them so I guess I’m going to do at least one string quilt.
Total for August: 46. Love your log cabins! That is my next long-term project. Have lots of lots of reproductions just waiting for this project.
Hi Shelly,
I have a total of 175 blocks (similar to Lady of the Lake) done for August. Only 25 more to go! Woo Hoo!!
Hi Shelly! 41 blocks for August. Not my worst month, not the best, but I’m ok with it. Summer days keep me in the gardens so sometimes I don’t get much sewing done. Nice to hear what everyone is working on, and happy to know you’re getting back to your rotary cutting. I hope you continue to improve!
You had a good month! I only managed 12 for August
Did sew a lot of dog scarves tho. The girl’s groomer was running low. I am really hoping to get a lot more sewing time in September!
Looks like you had a good month! Certainly more than me. I managed 12 for August plus a lot of dog scarves. The girls groomer was running low, I hope to get more sewing time in September!
How did I finish 107 blocks in August? Maybe sewing in my sleep? I do have two quilts going at once. I am not even sure at this point which is the primary quilt and which the leader-ender, but another good month might bring me to the end of the block count phase on both of them. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
I got to enjoy the full month of August at home with my sewing machine! I completed 750 blocks, I can hardly believe it.
38 blocks for me in September. But, there was a lot of quilty related events happening…..going through quilt books: Donate or keep? Going through UFOs: Ready for quilter/needs borders or a little something done on it/blocks out of sight. Can we count lists?????
34 blocks for me this month
A good month for me–I finished 49 blocks.
Ten for me, Shelly. What with heat exhaustion keeping me flat on my back, I can’t do much.
A total of 6 blocks for me for August but I did complete the binding on 3 quilts. There wasn’t a lot of sewing time, hopefully September will be different. Glad you are improving. Well done on your block count.
I did 117 in August. And I’m sorry I never reported my 8 blocks for July. I sewed in July, it was mostly machine quilting. In August my biggest block count came from making the Laundry Basket summer mystery quilt. I cheated and waited till the reveal to make mine. I also made progress on some ongoing projects as well as making my granddaughter a pixelated Minnie Mouse quilt for her birthday.
I hope your mojo and physical abilities blossom in September!
Only 17 blocks this month. I have been busy finishing quilts. Need to start working on several UFO’s to finish their last blocks and begin putting them together. Praying that your arm is healing, and you will soon be back to normal.
Opps, it looks like I forgot to report my blocks for July!
July-10
August-8
My total was 21 blocks for August.
I about panicked. Couldn’t find my sheet but could find last years. Finally found it
I have 121 for August. Glad you can do a little rotary cutting now.
The new full time job is getting in the way of my sewing time. Darn it. I was only able to get 5 blocks done in August. I am hoping that September will be better. 🤞🤞🤞
I managed 731 blocks this month. I spend 4 hrs a day cooking and cleaning and 4 hrs sewing. Also sewed 2 new aprons and got binding on 4 quilts. Glad you are able to rotary cut again.
8 blocks for me in August. Been concentrating on long-arming instead of sewing. Trying to get my creative juices going!
Eleven blocks for me in August. Better than last month. Hope you keep on making positive progress in your recovery. I love your log cabin blocks!
It’s so good to hear that you are able to rotary cut again. I’m so impressed with all of your log cabin blocks!
I had a decent month with 72 blocks made. I’ve been concentrating more on FMQing, so the block numbers will probably be down, but I should get some finished quilts!
Only 35 for me in August. I did some quilting though. I am still making pixel chain blocks (somehow thought making the queen size was a good idea), and I did some blocks for some Christmas projects, and I had a little box of 1.5″ squares which I sewed into 64 patches with no idea how they will be used, but at least they are all together now and not being used as cat toys in the sewing room! Hope the fall brings great joy and creativity to everyone’s sewing!
A rather slow month for me in the sewing room, 19 blocks. 16 of those were log cabins, which I also chain pieced. I’m thinking I would like to do more of those.
I had a total of 242 blocks in August! WooHoo!!
I had a total of 74 blocks.
Hi Shelly
I’m a bit late reporting my blocks, my computer was sick, and so was I for that matter. August blocks 47. I can’t remember if I reported July, but if I didn’t, it was 67.
I have zero blocks for August sadly. I was feeling quite down about it so started making some half square triangles. Will hopefully have something to report next time
Just realized I hadn’t posted for August. l only had 4 blocks and those were for bags that I sent along with the quilt for my sister Anne.
I finished the last 25 blocks for a quilt that I started at a retreat in August, now if I could just create time to sew them together. I did get a ton of much needed yard work done in September so I’m happy. Thanks Shelly!
