Last Tuesday evening, I was invited, along with a few other friends, to Alice’s house, to view a “private” trunk show by the very talented Karen Grover.
Karen brought along a few of her quilts and treated us to a delightful little personal showing that I enjoyed very much.
It was very interesting to hear Karen tell how she approaches her designs and comes up with her ideas.
Not all of her quilts were her very own design, but I must say she has great taste in the patterns of other people that she decides to do, and I loved her color choices. For example, these two Christmas quilts:
And her Dear Jane quilt. I’ve always wanted to make a Dear Jane quilt, and this really inspired me to think about starting one:
Karen’s basket quilt, which is out traveling so she did not get to bring it with her, is going to appear on the cover of an AQS Book, and has hung in an exhibit at the National Quilt Museum in Paducah.
Karen participates in some interesting challenges through her local shops and guild. I was impressed!
Here’s a more modern one she’s done recently. I love this one!
Karen loves applique, which endeared her to me right from the start! I think this was my favorite quilt that she showed us:
Some more of her smaller pieces:
Alice’s dog, Cooper, enjoyed the trunk show as well!
Oh, and did I mention that Alice made cookies? We got to eat cookies while we looked at quilts. Does it get any better than that?
Beautiful quilts !
