How has it gone with trying to get rid of one thing every day? I’ve been doing OK with it, but at the time of this writing, I still need to come up with two things that need to go. Well, actually way more than that, but only two to have my 30 days in!
It has felt good, but it has also felt like “not enough yet”. So I’m sure I will continue on with trying to get rid of things.
Meanwhile, it’s past time for another challenge. My friend, Amanda, reminded me about it last week, but I didn’t get the hint. She said her husband voted for her working on an old UFO, while she wanted to start something new!
I think we’re gonna go with her husband’s option:
See if you can even get it finished before the next challenge! My choices are endless for this one. I’m gonna try to finish more than one!
There are actually two right here that only need the bindings whipped down, if I can make myself sit still long enough to get them done.

We’re almost to March, and I haven’t started anything new yet this year. I’ve got some rules! I’ll tell you about those in a future post soon.
Do you have an older project you need to finish up? Here’s your nudge . . . let’s hear what you’re working on!
My husband is convinced that I just love starting projects and not finishing them! I need to dig to find a couple of old UFOS that I have laid out on sheets and rolled up. I need to sew together the blocks to hopefully get the tops done. I did pretty good with getting rid of items!
I need to just get backing ready and then send several wall hangings to my quilter! I’m NOT fond of fixings backing!!!
I have a binding to do, quilter completed her part July, was it 2025 or 2024? I now have the right color thread so, sure I can get at least ONE thing done!
I have a binding that I need to hand sew, and labels that I have needed to make for quilts for months.
I did not do the February get rid of stuff due to mom’s funeral & then sick/stress. But i got a cousin to longarm a quilt that has been done for years. And i did finish a wall hanging and another small quilt to quilt.
I’m still back on one of the tasks from the end of year countdown. I got out all of the fabric I own, even broke up kits I no longer wanted to make. It was daunting, but I worked through it and came up with 2 tables worth of fabric to get rid of. However, it wasn’t simply box up the fabric and send it on it’s way, I wanted to offer it to 6 special people. The 6 people have gone through it and now I’ll take it to one of my small groups and then it will go on to the free table at guild. The cupboards have some breathing room. Love your posts Shelly!!
I’m ready to bind a 2023 quilt. I think that will get the ball rolling on some finishes. Now if I can avoid starting anything new.
I have just finished 2 tops that have been hanging around for 8 years. Once I started on them I was in the swing of keeping going! I’m going to dig out another one to work on next!
I passed on the February task since I cleaned out everything for my guild’s FYN – fabric, yarn, and notions – sale in October. I got rid of a whole bunch of UFOs, yay! I claim everything I now have as wanted.
I may be able to find a UFO or 2 that escaped the cull. I’ll go looking as soon as I get my Helen quilt off the long arm.
Question: How long must a project be in time out before it becomes a UFO?
I have been working on BOM’s from last year, which I now have back from my Longarmer. My current “telephone” project, how I keep my hand busy on phone, is a binding on one of the quilts. I finished two UFOs, but there were extra blocks left over😳???When cleaning I found a Mystery Quilt BOM from our Guild in 2013. I only made one block because of “Life Happens”. I still liked the block, and the fabric, it is now together waiting on Borders. I’ll try to finish it and make the back. Did start a new quilt for my DSIL’s 50th B’day! Hope to do the one thing get rid of in March.
I’m like Diane, still working on clearing out fabric. Took apart kits first and trying to incorporate the fabric into my shelves plus the extra stuff in bins on the floor has turned into a major effort. It’s forcing me to look at everything and decide if it’s worthy to keep. Some days I can’t face it, some days I get on a roll. The next step will be to find homes for everything. If I ever can get the mess I’ve made with every surface covered cleared up, I do have a binding to put on a UFO I quilted this month that I made back in the early 2000’s. And hopefully I will have finished the baby quilt (also a UFO from 10 years ago?) for the baby that is coming in April.
I was successful in getting rid of items. I started with fairly small things to get on a roll, but I managed to toss or re-home 49 things in the last month. You can’t really tell at a casual glance, so I may keep my tally sheet so I have proof. I think my old project I need to work on will be a large log cabin quilt I began years ago (not at all sure how many) to show my mom that cast off strips can become something beautiful. I will work on that and see if I can finish it. Actually, I may split it into two twin size tops to add to the stash of charity quilts my quilter’s group makes.
Was just thinking yesterday about any UFO that I want to prioritize. There’s the Jack’s Chain with squares that finish at 1/2 inch… This quilt has no designated deadline–just one I like working on now and then. I did sign up for a challenge with a quilt guild (with monetary prizes and points earned) to finish five quilts in increments by the end of the year. It would be nice to finish a couple more quilts for a local quilt show coming up in the spring (we are allowed five). Hopefully I will finish something more by next month–I keep working on it.
Enjoy your posts. Thanks for keeping us motivated.
I decided that if Dear Jane ever gets done I have to work on it! our guild had a 2 day retreat and I got 5 blocks done. it is sooo slow. I don’t feel that is much progress but at least it is a start. Ready for row 4. !!!
I just returned from retreat yesterday where I finished a top that has been a “mindless sewing” at our Thursday stitching. I did start a new project on February 1st (Judy Neimeyer) that I purchased last year on Valentine’s Day during our retreat. I have been steady working on it. I cleared several tops before starting it because I knew it would take concentration
The last challenge went well for me and I’m going to continue it all year. I have way too many books and magazines, so I’m aiming to take one last look at one each day, and decide whether to donate it or not. I keep a count of what I donate and so far this year, it’s around 175 items, which were mostly craft and sewing supplies. So thank you for the push to declutter.
And for my projects, I’m trying to finish one old one and one new one each month. This is working well, too. I think this month, my old UFO will be a knitted hat that I started last year.
I do have new projects to start but I am resisting in order to finish old projects first. Almost finished with one and then I will turn to a project barely started. Cannot wait to get my hands on it! Old project will be finished by the weekend. What I need is to screen down my interruptions!! Think about that. each. day. Onward and upward…
