My first finish of 2025!
I finally finished this Jammin’ Jelly quilt:

The pattern is by my friend, Cindy, at Live a Colorful Life.
It’s such an easy make. And it uses big pieces, so you can see the fabrics really well.

I started this quilt as part of a challenge my guild did to use an ugly fat quarter. We each brought in an ugly fat quarter, exchanged them randomly, and then were challenged to make a project using the one you got.
Can you guess which one was my ugly? (see below)
I have no idea when or where I got the rest of the fabrics I used. No recollection at all! I don’t normally buy fabric like that, so maybe it was a gift or a bundle I got somehow. No idea — isn’t that awful?
Anyway, ugly fat quarter or not, I think this turned out adorable, and after a wash to make it all snuggly, it’s on its way to Texas to my newest little nephew, Ahmad. It’s big enough he can grow into it and use it as a drag around quilt for quite awhile.
I used stash for the backing . . .

. . . and found this great yellow and white stripe for the binding.

Since it’s a usin’ quilt, it got my standard all-over meander quilting.
Here are the details:
Jammin’ Jelly Quilt:
Finished size: 50″ x 60″
Pattern: Jammin’ Jelly by Cindy Wiens — you can purchase the pattern HERE.
Fabrics for top: All scraps from my stash, plus the “ugly” fat quarter I got in a guild exchange
Backing and binding: from my stash
Batting: Quilter’s Dream Wool
Thread: Superior OMNI #3164 Neon Yellow
Quilting: All-over meander by me
And here’s the “ugly” — these cute little guys! I don’t think it was ugly fabric at all, and it sure made a cute quilt!

That turned out to be a beautiful quilt. I love it! I am sure your nephew will love it also when he is older and can drag it around. Great job!
So cute!
Hey Stranger! I haven’t popped in in a coons age!
Love your scrappy quilt – great way to kick off the
New Year! And I laughed out loud when I saw your
‘ugly’ fabric – I bought a yard of that entire line years
ago when it was on sale at FQS for $5.00 a yard.
And I have almost an entire bolt of 2 of those prints
…one of the frogs. LOL. Its still one of my favorite
lines. P.S. I still haven’t made anything with it. 😂
Hope ya’ll are doing well!
Your quilt came out great!
Adorable!! I need to quickly make 2 baby quilts before March, so this looks doable. Thanks for sharing, and I don’t think your “ugly” fabric is ugly! I’m heading over to buy the pattern right now…
Great finish, your nephew will cherish it for years.
One woman’s discard is another woman’s treasure! Well done Shelly!
Looks good to me. I had fat quarter bundle of 25 fabrics. I saw no place I would use virtually any of the fabrics. Had a pattern for a wreath I wanted to make. It turned out to be a favorite table piece. Used much of the rest of the bundle on the back, just a scramble of pieces
What a coincidence, our group exchanged ugly fat quarters yesterday for a challenge. Your quilt is so colorful and just right for your new nephew.
Fun Quilt – believe all quilts should be used! So make them fun!
What a riot of color! So fun! Great kids quilt for sure. You found perfect fabrics to go with the “ugly”. I had to look hard to figure out which one might not have been in a bundle. Looks like they ALL belong together.
I just used that cute frog fabric in 4 alphabet quilts! My friend and I share a “bright bag” and it was in there. Love your quilt!
Great finish!
Shelly. I can’t find the correct website to get the pattern for that cute quilt you just finished. I keep getting other sites with the same name &$@&? Those are cuss words!! I’d love to make that quilt. Steer me to the right place please
love it love it. I am going to have to get that pattern as well.
Really a cute quilt! Congrats on the finish. Another on the goal of 25!
