I’m late getting this report up! Partly because as of yesterday morning, I didn’t even realize it was already June! I’m so frazzled, I’m having a lot of trouble keeping track of the days. And unfortunately for My poor Cowboy, I’m not doing a very good job of hidin’ the crazy, either.
It seems like with every task I take on, I hit a snag. Snags that cause more work, cost time, cost money, or cause more delays with moving. I have to pray so hard for patience every day — haha!
But with TWO retreats under my belt in May, I DID get some blocks made! (I haven’t been to a retreat since probably 2018, and now two in one month!)
I missed getting counted 15 blocks from last month because I didn’t have my list with me to refer to, so I’m adding them to my additional 169 for May, for a new year-to-date total of 314. I’m almost there, with the year nearly half over!
Here’s a bit of what I accomplished in the sewing room . . .
I finished the remaining 54 blocks I needed to make for the Sweet Kisses quilt. Now to get them all set together!
I made 12 blocks for a quilt called Joy, which I will show you later.
I made 2 more blocks for my Limerick quilt, five 25-patch blocks for a veteran’s quilt, 18 blocks for a different veteran’s quilt, 19 blocks for a quilt I’ll be showing you (hopefully) real soon, and 1 more Daredevils block.
This is Block 10 of Daredevils. Only two more to go, and I can set them together!

I made two more blocks for my Blast from the Past quilt. Only 2 or 3 of those left to do as well. Here is one of the ones I completed:

And I made two tops from the pattern called Potting Shed by Villa Rosa designs. It’s one of those little postcard patterns that are so quick and easy to make. For the first one, I actually bought a kit at Sew Sweet Quilt Shop because I fell in love with their sample. But I wanted to make one for me and one for My Cowboy so we’d have new couch throws in the new house, and for his, I had this random bundle of what appeared to be salesmen’s samples of homespuns; I have no idea where I got them, but they worked perfectly for his quilt, and they are also now used up and out of the drawer, which I call a big win.
I don’t have a photo of my finished top, but here is the one I made for him. Now to get them quilted!

And just for kicks, I’ll show you a couple other things I managed to get done. I’m using up all my little odds and ends of cotton yarn and making dishcloths. Here’s the first scrappy one I finished:

And I also made these Lined Drawstring bags to store my good cowboy boots in. I used the pattern from Jeni Baker of In Color Order — such a fantastic pattern — you can make the bags any size you need. For mine, I used the Laundry Bag size, but she even gives a formula to make custom sizes you might want. It’s a great pattern, and you can find it HERE.

How did you do in May? I certainly hope your month was much calmer and not as stressful as mine. If not for the retreats I went on, I’m not sure I would have sewn at all!
It’s time to report in with your totals. I have the Project Page updated. I didn’t even get to respond to all your comments last month, so I hope I do better this time. I haven’t had much time at the computer, and my time at the sewing machine has been very limited since my last retreat ended.
Our new block goal for June is 47 blocks, for a year-so-far total of 175. I know that sounds like a bigger number than usual, but I chose it because that will get us to the halfway point of the challenge as we get to the halfway point of the year.
The prize winner for April is Fran!
I hope you all have a lovely month of June, whatever you do!
I’ll leave you with another sneak peek of our house:

We got the back yard put back together, the lean-to floor is finished, and we are working to get our new fencing in place so we can turn the goats out — I’ll be so excited about that! We are building them a new playground where I can watch them out my studio windows while working. (That entire end of the house is my new studio, by the way — I’m a lucky girl! If not for that, the house would be much smaller — haha!)
I made a total of 290 blocks for Ma. Which made 9 more quilts to be quilted. A total of thirty quilt tops. Happy sewing to everyone!!!
hi, I have been sewing diligently but being vague about writing it down. April I had 71 ( I am okay with being too late) May I hunkered down working on four quilts. I did the Bonnie hunter Indigo Way. I finally decided to make two throws from the blocks. I have been doing glue basting and machine quilting my own quilts. 35 for May.
I got my (third) 1/2 square triangle top done. I finished my orange peel. I did three Linus quilts. And some gardening.
I can’t believe that it’s June already. I was super busy at my machine in May and completed 112 blocks for 2 quilt tops. I even managed to complete the tops and they are ready to be quilted.
so glad you got 2 retreats in. Fun time sewing. You are not alone in how what ever project you are doing ends up being more involved. That happens around here a lot! I did get to sew. Finished my blocks for Follow The Leader. That top is at my quilter. That was 57 blocks. Also made 48 for a log cabin quilt I am making. It is almost put together
My total for May 105. I am happy with that
I made a total of 50 blocks. I’m making 2 partial dreams quilts for donations. They are easy to do so I sewed like a mad woman.
Love the view of your new space! Hard work – packing & moving. Think i did only 2 blocks in May so way behind but with hospital visits & husband care – get done what we can.
A big fat zero blocks for May. ☹️ But, I quilted and bound three quilts this month. 😋 There are still ten more tops waiting to be quilted. So, no new blocks until I finish the quilts.
Total blocks for May: 60. Now I have 3 tops to layer and quilt, binding picked out. Love your plaids. I have a large stack of plaids to cut, sew, and layer for another top. Love your picture; yard looks ready for planting lots of goodies. Get help with the yard. Too much for one person to handle.
I have 72 blocks for May. I’m to the point of seeing the end of the tunnel for the wedding quilt. The pink heart top is completed and I’m caught up on the BOM and RBR groups I’m in. Also, donation blocks were made for a friend. Yesterday, 5 of my UFOs arrived back on my doorstep all quilted and ready to gift. I’ll have one left when the ‘giving’ is over. Shelly, you must be on pins and needles wanting to get into your all one floor home. Having a big window to look out of while sewing is a must have in my book. 🙂
Hooray, you made a lot of progress! Quilt retreats are so good for the soul. I made 20 blocks in May.
I made 4 more blocks from my “scraps too small to keep bag” resulting in enough blocks to put a top together. I also bound my grandsons 1st birthday quilt (which was in April 😊) and got a good start on a king sized Trip Around the World quilt for my daughters wedding. i will count that later, once I figure out how to. so my total for May is a big 4!
cant wait to see a view of the kids in their playground!!!
My total for May is 120. I’ve got the top pieced together but it still needs a border….not sure when that will happen tho. I’ve made a promise to myself not to sew until I get my sewing room cleaned ….. we’ll see how that goes.
Again I’ve done embroidery and appliqué this month for a total of 3! And I’m happy to have them done.
Also I’ve culled my quilt books and some patterns! Yea ME!
My “flat tables” are hopeless, but still room to work.
Made 21 blocks mostly playing with scraps. And am making a quilt as you go baby quilt. That is some beautiful work you have done this month. Congrats on your number! Blessings
Looking forward to seeing all the quilts you are making! Good luck with the move–it’s looking great! I finished 50 blocks in May.
So glad you are getting the playground ready for the goats. Hope you will include a picture of them next month. Love seeing your blocks and the other things you made. Thanks for sharing them with us.
Because I was working on appliqué, I made only 11 blocks this month, but I have already made more than that for June
This month produced 99 blocks. I’m making scrappy 4 patch blocks out of 4 1/2″ blocks. Haven’t decided for sure how I’ll put them together. There were some other blocks, but I just wrote down the number of blocks.
Congratulations to Fran on the April win📍
Had 61 this month from a new quilt and 9 patches as Leaders and Enders. Also made 3 backings.
I made 61 blocks
Congratulations on the new studio and home. The quilt you pieced was great❣️
I completed 27 blocks. Finished the orange peel blocks for Midnight at the Oasis, Several for Summer Moon, our quilt groups QAL starting in July (I’m in charge, UGH). I will be traveling in August and possibly September so I’m trying to get ahead for someone else to fill in.
The new house looks great!
Busy month here, too. I’ve been trying to get my front yard into shape after pretty much neglecting it last year — and it showed. It’s coming along nicely but I haven’t had much time for sewing. I did make 4 crazy quilt blocks during a workshop and I’ve been adding ribbon and thread embroidery to them to hopefully make a pillow with them. I’ve also been participating in Latifah Saafir’s Put a Ring on It QAL. I managed to complete a test block and 13 of the 20 I need for the throw size by May 31. The other 7 were completed June 1 so I’m on the board for the new month!
To summarize: 18 blocks in May.
I have zero for May. No sewing this month. Unloaded two more boxes of fabric, kits, patterns. I had a mini vacation visited two quilt shops, happily assisted them with decreasing their inventory…
I did start another Heidi Parkes fabric vase. Unpicked a Boro stitched square-wasn’t feeling the assortment and found the unpicking calming.
Best wishes on the new house and with all the moving! I am on summer break from work so I was able to get 200 blocks made this month.
2 quilts finished from quilt camp fot 78 blocks and 1cpicture quilt and I’ll call that one 10 blocks
total 88 blocks for me.
I have made 67 blocks and quilted and bound 1 small quilt for a baby shower. The wedding quilt I was working on is at the quilters. I have only 1 more border to add to another quilt and it will be ready for the quilter. I feel very accomplished.
60 blocks completed, not a single top or quilt all done–but I had fun sewing almost every day of the month! Worked on some new and some old projects–a couple are close to completion. It’s been fun working through scrap piles and organizing as I plan and cut blocks to complete. Our state had a two month shop hop–so visited some old and new quilt stores for some day trips to those fairly close to where we live. My husband likes to go on shop hops!
May added 13 blocks to my count. Not surprising, as it is the busiest month for me as a school teacher. June is already feeling more promising. YAY for sewing season!
95 blocks for May. Finished one more QOV top and got a box shipped off to Liberty, MO for quilting, binding, labeling, and presenting. One was a “lavette,” what I call a top that would appeal to a lady veteran! Threw in a few zip pouches I made with the leftover blocks and scraps. After that, it was mostly prepping some tops for quilting, have one under the needle now, and re-folding and putting fabric on shelving in my den (which is becoming another “extension” of my sewing room! LOVE your new home and can’t wait to see your new studio and its view. Oh, and my favorite dish cloth pattern to knit is “Wicker Knit Dishcloth” by clicketysticks.com.
36 blocks May
I completed 241 blocks in May.
I only managed to get 1 block done in May, but I think that was quite an accomplishment. I did go to a quilting retreat in May at Mackinac Island, and made a collage of a brook trout and gave it to my son for his birthday. Oh, and there was a QOV quilt waiting for me to quilt when I got home. Also busy trying to get the garden planted, etc….
Love the dishcloth from scrap yarn – now I know what to do with all my yarn remnants!
No blocks for me but I did get four tops quilted. I’m going to continue quilting in June and then a binding marathon.
Still slow progress for me as I’ve been spending more time working outside instead of sewing. 58 for May.
I had a really slow month. I made 28 blocks for a YTD total of 219.
I’m sending positive thoughts for your move. Can’t wait to see photos of your new studio!
Your new house looks great!!! I finished 43 blocks in May
I made 198 blocks, mostly 16 patches from my bottomless pit of pink scraps! My May was also a little too chaotic for my tastes, so I really had to hustle through my blocks at the end of the month.
I love pictures of the new house!
You did great! Inspiring! It didn’t seem like I made that many blocks because I quilted 3 items and got one of them bound. Have been cutting scraps and doing some scrap management but did frame up 115 I spy blocks that now are ready to sew together and 6 scrappy house blocks. So 121 blocks that were rather simple. I’ll take it 😊… next month might be a bust.
I have 76 blocks for May. I made my granddaughter a quilt for her birthday that had 48, and I did blocks for a charity quilt and block lotto for guild.
Yea for you to get to go to retreats. I think the time with other like-minded people is so important.
I love the quilt you made for your cowboy!
I am finding with the nice weather it’s harder to get in my sewing room. l made 49 blocks in May. we will see what the rest of the summer will bring.
So many blocks finished but zero for me. Packing to move and a cruise kept me away from the machine. My sewing room is so cleaned up, packed and getting empty it feels sterile.
Your house is looking great!
4 blocks were made in May. I have no idea where the month went. I did concentrate on setting together a Project Linus quilt of 4 Patches made from my 2.5″ squares. 1 more row needs sewn together and then press seams so the rest of the rows can go together.
My husband has introduced me to fishing and I am addicted so I figure quilting production will stay low. I love your new place by the way!
What a lovely home! Looks like the goats will be happy too!
Not much sewing, more sowing! Decent weather for longer than expected (until today) but I did manage to sew 16 blocks, including the corners and the last bits of the border for the quilt. Sewn the big blocks together and working on the border. Husband said he wants bigger, so I’m going to have to fiddle around and make another section to the border! Oh dear!!!!
It was a busy quilting month for me, with 118 blocks made in May. More than half were very simple blocks for a colorwash quilt. I also finished one quilt for a local quilt show.
Good luck with progress on the new house. I can’t wait to see your new studio!
I bet you’re thrilled about moving even though it’s so much work.
I only finished 39 blocks this month. Most of those were applique. I did finish 2 quilts though.
Can’t believe it’s June already!
I’m late getting my count in, but I had just 27 for May. I’m so excited for you, your new house, and new quilt room!
Glad to see that you are making progress on all fronts, even when it doesn’t feel like it! I moved things forward some more myself and managed 64 blocks. Hopefully I can keep productivity up over the warmer months.
I didn’t make as much progress in May as previously. Only 6 blocks for charity quilts this month. I spent a lot of time cutting out quilts for our charity quilt group to sew next fall and I bound one mini quilt. The rest of the month was spent outdoors in the garden and end-of-year school running.
Only 6 blocks for charity quilts in May. Spent a lot of time cutting out quilts for our charity quilt group to sew next fall. The rest of my time was spent outdoors in the garden and doing end-of-year school running.
Note to Shelly – I posted this a second time with my name the way I’ve been using it.
Only29 blocks this month. Spent 15 days driving to the west coast. 6143 miles. That took most of my time. Shelly, I hope things get better for you.
Love all the projects you made during the month of May, Shelly! And you have some great progress on on-going projects, too. Thanks for sharing the photo of your house. It sounds like progress is happening! The goats will love their new space. And I know you will love your new sewing studio space, woo-hoo!!!
I made 50 blocks during May. I had three trips during the month, so not many days were spent with my sewing machine. I did bind some quilts, finish a small cross-stitch sampler, do some closet cleaning, and lots of odds and ends little projects around my house and garden. Here’s to a productive sewing time in June!!!
I had 26 blocks for May – 3 for a KU fleece blanket and 2 pillows for my grandson, who will be a junior at KU this fall; 8 microwave bowl cozies and 5 trixie bags, which will go to my 2 brothers and 2 sisters-in-law with the quilts I’m making them, and 10 blocks for my Tula Pink 100 Blocks quilt-along.
ok it has been crazy around here had to make 30 quilts for a fundraiser that happens thos last weekend. so for.luck and a lot of lost sleep they were all made and.quilted by the dead line.
so my totalmwas 976 for the monthnof may
Hi Shelly, Your house is looking amazing- can’t wait to see new studio!
May block total 12 to complete scrappy star quilt- 5 sand castle blocks Total of 17.
So sorry for the very late post. Back in May, I made 4 blocks. My total this year : 23 blocks.
