December 350 Blocks Report

Posted on December 31, 2021 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Today puts the wrap on 2021! I know some of you are glad to see it go, but I don’t begrudge very many of my days above ground — I’m grateful to still be here and kicking!

And quilting!

In December, I made a total of 41 blocks. I had some customer longarming to wrap up, and once I got that finished, I started trying to clean up and organize (are you joining in on The Final Countdown?), so it’s a wonder I got as many blocks done as I did.

I was trying to make a good effort to at least get these two quilts finished. My Stitch Pink quilt, but I still have 6 more blocks to make:

And this 36-Patch quilt, but I still have nearly 1/3 of the blocks left to sew (and still some more to cut out):

So those will get pushed into the new year in spite of my efforts, but it’s OK. I also kept working on little HST blocks, Maple Leaves, and made some more 9-patches (another quilt I’d like to finish soon):

I ended up with a grand total of 819 blocks for the year!

So how did you end up the year? Did you get done everything you wanted to? Are you satisfied with your block total? Are you ready to try it again next year? (I am!) I know it’s really busy around the holidays, so sewing time gets pushed back sometimes.

It’s time to report in with your final totals for the year. Please double check me, and make sure I have your numbers correct. It’ll be time to do the wrap-up soon, and I don’t want to cheat anyone out of any of their blocks!

I have the Project Page updated as of yesterday morning, but I’ll do another update within the next few days, and a final one just before the wrap-up, which I plan to do on the 7th. So get your final totals in to me before the 7th — I’ll be posting our statistics for 2021, handing out all the prizes, and we’ll get ready to kick off the 2022 version of The 350 Blocks Project on the 15th!

And don’t forget to start counting your 2022 blocks tomorrow!

The November prize winner is Clare, who was at 365 blocks as of the end of November.

I’m excited to see what our final 2021 statistics are, and I’m ready to do this again!

Only 17 blocks to report this month. But I have put lots of scrappy blocks into some community service quilts. And I read 59 books this year. Oh, wait. You don’t count that? My life is crazy. Poor, hubby!!

  7. Christi Bentley says:

156 for me, so better than I expected. I did 9 Bitcoin columns, 72 blocks for a graduation quilt, 72 blocks for the Merry Mayhem Mystery, and 3 for Quiltmaker’s Ruby Jubilee Mystery.

  8. Mary D. says:

Zero for me! My sewing time this month was spent finishing 8 small quilts for charity, finishing a quilt that had all the blocks made to give as a Christmas gift, and quilting four quilts for customers. One of those was a t-shirt quilt I made, but now that I think of it, would those count as blocks made? There were 26 blocks.

  9. Cindy Wienstroet says:

I pushed my self after Christmas & got 91 blocks done. I also hope to keep the block challenge going next year – it helps to know i really do get things done. Thanks.

  10. Sally H says:

103 blocks for me, including 30 chevron blocks and the rest 4-patches, all with scraps from other quilts including hst’s leftover from stitch and flip blocks.

Only 4 blocks for me this month. And those came on Wed. when I needed some sewing therapy. It was a difficult Christmas this year. Unfortunately I can’t count the dog scarves for the girls groomer! 62 of those for December! Definitely looking forward to doing this again in 2022. Now to go work on your 3 tasks!

  16. Louise says:

Only four blocks for me this month. I was pretty burned out after my marathon sewing in November.

  17. Well done everyone. I made 8 blocks for December. It rounds my year total to 450 blocks, which is a nice number to finish on. I look forward to starting my 2022 block counting on New Year’s Day, as I cut four blocks ready to sew.
    Happy New Year to everyone.

  18. Suelynn Williams says:

Thank you, Shelly, for hosting the 350 blocks project again. I thought I didn’t make any blocks in November, so when I recorded the first blocks in mid December, a surprise greeted me on the tracking sheet.
    November: 12
    December: 25

  19. Marilyn Holder says:

Total for December: 29. A little better and next year I have planned to finish and start and finish, not sure how many; so much for planning! It all begins anew tomorrow. Please keep inspiring me.

  20. Kathi Benchley says:

I managed to get 4 blocks sewn in December. Even though I did not make 350 blocks this year, I got more done than I would have thanks to the challenge! I will definitely try again next year!

  21. Judy Sovereign says:

I made 12 to finish up a quilt. Got 4 to flimsy and 2 quilted. Hope am able to do better next month.

  22. Shirley B says:

A total of 8 blocks for the month.

  23. Coralie Wallace says:

Among the sorting and clearing out of sewing/quilting things I found a bag of blocks made a long time ago. It had an instruction sheet with a layout for a quilt. Some of the blocks were sewn into units of four blocks. I have decided to finish this quilt, but in a different layout. Some “reverse stitching” and the new layout will produce a very lovely quilt. It doesn’t count for blocks made in December, so the block count does not change for me. I hope everyone had a good Christmas and will have a good New Year. 2022 will be better, lets think positive about that!

  24. Karen E. says:

I made 151 blocks in December for a YTD total of 1619. Thanks for helping all of us keep track of our block numbers. It’s always fun to see what we do as a group.

    HAPPY 2022 TO EVERYONE!!

24 for me…got busy with Christmas.

  26. Fran says:

116 blocks for me in December. Finally finished those 3 1/2” Tiny 365 Blocks that took forever to make. Should be able to make many more blocks in 2022 since I don’t have to make those anymore.

  27. Beverly Hovis says:

    I made 20 this month!

  31. Ceil Podzimek says:

15 blocks for me for December. I finally feel like sewing again and am getting my guilds quilt-along top together. Hoping for a better sewing month in January.

  32. Paula Morgan says:

I had 13! No clue for year. I will be happy with whatever total I have for the year. Thank you for doing this- I wish I was competitive! You have some star achiever’s!

  33. Deanna says:

December brought 44 more blocks for a yearly total of 933, over 300 more than my previous high total. I calculated that I finished about 87 square yards of quilts this year…Amazing! I appreciate your encouragement to track my work or I would never know.

  34. Ginabeth says:

I am adding 52 this month for a total of 654. Wow, I have not written my totals down from the past but I hope it is close.

Happy New Year to you and all

  35. Clara Chandler says:

    Happy New Year!!
18 blocks for December. The other sewing projects were a pillowcase gift and a Christmas banner for the front door, I’m hopeful that the total for next year will be closer to the goal.

  36. Sandi Scarlett says:

I didn’t make any blocks during December but I did quilt 2 charity quilts and bind them and work on a long term hand applique` project. Happy New Year!

  37. Debbi says:

I made 63 churn dash blocks and 12 log cabin blocks for December. Too bad I didn’t get them into their respective quilts yet. 75 for the month, not too shabby.

I’m looking forward to playing along in 22. However I’m thinking my focus is going to be more on finishes…assembling blocks, quilting and binding. But I’m sure I’ll make some blocks 😄

  38. Amanda M. says:

I made 38 blocks for 4 different projects in December. The weather had been dry before Christmas so I was in the timber cutting tree tops for fire wood. I did manage to do some quilting and finished a few quilts. Historically January is a great block month for me and I hope ’22 is the same way.

  39. The month got off to a slow start, but I ended strong, making over 120 blocks in the last four days. My total for December was 145 blocks. Thanks so much for keeping this challenge going!

  40. Wendy Tuma says:

Just 2 for me this month. Happy New Year, Shelly!

  41. sharonG says:

239 for a year end total of 2184. Thankyou for doing this. New Years blessings to you and your family

  43. So, my total for December is 0. Yearly total of 328. I rarely, almost never have time to sew in December…I know I was only 22 blocks from my goal. But I’m ok with this. Count me in for the 2022 challenge again. Thanks so much for doing this every year, Shelly, it’s such a great motivator. Happy New Year!!

  44. Marsha P says:

72 for December for a total of 338. That’s probably the most I’ve had for a year and I’m fine with it.

  45. I finished 6 blocks and managed to finish the quilt top.

  46. Linda Knight says:

I made more blocks than I thought, 99. And quilted and bound 2 small quilts. I need to make a trip to the nursing home to donate several that I have ready. I do
need to give credit to Rose Marie Smith because these two are tops that she pieced and sent to me to quilt and bind. We are both enjoying this project to use up scraps.

  47. Johnna Clarke says:

Beautiful blocks, but we expect that from you. Have you made any progress with the signature quilt? Have I missed it? Hope your year starts out great and stays safe!

  48. Joan says:

December block count=159 & 2021 count=723. Did a 9-patch (with 1 1/2″ scraps) sewing marathon during Christmas/NewYear’s vacation! Hand pieced some star blocks dressed in a 1900’s costume at our local Christmas in the (historic) Village. Many young, maybe future quilters enjoyed their visit to the Millinery shop! And on some days we had an antique treadle going at a fast pace as well–what fun that was!
Thanks for keeping us motivated & I hope you are having a Happy start to the New Year!

  49. Pam Desilets says:

I was able to get 112 blocks done. With all my Christmas sewing done .Happy New Year to all.

  50. Paula Mu says:

I completed 4 blocks this month. I made the large sections (blocks)for 5 and 6 in my Springtime quilt and sewed the 6 sections together. I figured that was about 3 blocks. I also pieced a small table topper with striped fabric. Not great in the sewing department. But I actually completed a lot this year. Thanks for organizing this, Shelly. I hope to participate next year.

  51. Barb Roberts says:

I managed 29 blocks this December. I’m expecting my numbers to stay fairly low for awhile, we have a new puppy joining us this week. Lots of training will need to happen this winter. 😉

  52. Marlene Clausen says:

28 for December. Very productive month for finishing projects, not so much for producing blocks! Have plans for a couple new starts this month and continuing to get all those flimsies turned into quilts.
    Happy New Year!!

  53. Christine says:

I completed 9 blocks in December – 9 more than I expected. I’m very pleased with my year total, way more than last year. And it includes a Bargello panel that I counted as only 1 block. Thank you for the challenge and the encouragement!

  54. Randy says:

It is 33 for me…. I was hoping for more but it is a new year already!!!

  55. Marsha Y. says:

I thought I would have time for sewing when we finished Christmas celebrations, but it just didn’t happen this month. I have a total of 4 blocks this month. I am working on your challenges for the year end and hope it will leave better prepared for the new year!!!

  56. Raewyn says:

HI Shelly, I got really behind but hopefully today will have a good count up for my 2021 tally. And sew a block or two for 2022!

  57. Shirley Guier says:

I’ll finish the year with 24 blocks.

  58. Debra Freese says:

Only 10 for me this month. 😬

  60. Stephanie says:

61 December blocks for me, over 3 different projects, which were the last ones for those 3. Hooray!
Thanks again for the block challenge Shelly.

  61. Sharon Gratz says:

I only made 14 in December.

  62. Happy New Year Shelly to you and yours.
I’m not sure how I managed it but I actually made 28 blocks in December for a yearly count of 858 blocks. Next year can only get better, right?
Thank you for hosting this fun event.
Here’s my post for the month

  63. Carissa M says:

I didn’t sew a single quilt block in December. I did quilt a top for a gift and did a ton of Christmas sewing though. I guess that’s the problem with being both a quilter and a garment maker!

  64. Michele says:

Happy new year! My counting completely fell apart this year- but my sense is that I didn’t do nearly as much sewing this year either.

I have a pretty new pocket calendar to keep track for this year, though, and am off to a good start. Looking forward to 2022!

  65. Susan S says:

Happy New Year! In December I made 10 blocks total, one more churn dash for an ongoing Project, several placemats and a couple of placemats. This year I hope to finish off some larger ufo’s and some new quilt projects. Wishing everyone health and joy.
