• Prairie Moon Quilts gets its name from Prairie Moon Ranch, where I (Shelly Pagliai) live with my favorite cowboy, lots of cattle, several horses, and many many dogs and cats.
• I operate out of a studio in our 1920’s farmhouse, which we purchased in December of 2012. It’s a work in progress, and will be for awhile.
• This is me at 7 years old. I still have a bit of trouble smiling when I’m getting my picture taken.
• Pagliai is an Italian name, and is pronounced like “Polly Eye”.
• I began sewing when I was 8 years old, and started my first quilt at the age of 12. It’s only gotten worse . . .
• Although I’ll try any technique at least once, applique is my main passion.
• I love rescuing vintage quilt tops, orphan blocks, linens, and other vintage textiles, and making new projects out of them.
• Read the blog to follow the daily events on the ranch and in the studio.
• I also blog over at The Life of Hazel Ilene. It’s a running transcript of my mother’s diary from her teenage years. With quilt patterns . . .
• This is me with My Cowboy . . . see what I mean about the smiling thing?
• A lot of my designs are inspired by farm and ranch life, with traditional bits thrown in.
• A lot of them are just things I like and felt like designing!
• I run a charity project called the Necktie Social, to donate quilts to charitable organizations to use as fundraisers.
• Prairie Moon Quilts offers a line of mini-kits that come complete with everything needed to make the project, and lots of other individual kits, patterns, books, and handmade items. You can shop HERE.
• I strive to make all my pattern instructions thorough and easy to follow, and most of my patterns have little extra surprises thrown in — you never know what you’ll find inside!
• I’m also a professional longarm quilter, so if you have a quilt top that you’d like to have quilted, I’d love the chance to be the one to finish it for you.
I would love to hear from you. If you have made a quilt using one of my patterns, I would love to see it and possibly feature it here. And, if you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
