The New York City MOD quilters are offering up a challenge.
They’ve teamed up with EZ Quilting/Simplicity, Interweave, and Juki to use the Double Wedding Ring templates or pattern to create a project, then enter it for a chance to win fabulous prizes from the sponsors!
UPDATE!! The winner of the set of templates in my give-away is June! Congratulations, June, and thanks to everyone for playing along. I hope you all decide to enter the challenge, templates or not!
Here’s what the rulers look like:
And if you leave a comment on this post, you’ll be entered for a chance to win this very set of rulers for yourself! Then you’ll have no excuse for not entering this challenge. Did I mention there are prizes? Lots of fabulous prizes?
This challenge is open to everyone. Everyone. Anyone. All quilters of any style. (As long as you make your quilt out of 3 layers and bind it.)
Here are the categories:
SMALL: ONE RING! Under 20″ . . . or even smaller . . . this is a great way to introduce yourself to curved piecing and play around with the design.
TRADITIONAL: 4 rings or larger: Don’t stray too far from the traditional style of Double Wedding Ring pattern for this category.
MODERN: 4 rings or larger: ANYTHING GOES! Put your own modern spin on this traditional design. Let your imagination run wild.
This challenge is a great way for you to learn a new technique, try something new, and show off your creativity. If you need inspiration, one of the sponsors, The Quilt Alliance, has put together a Pinterest page with examples of Double Wedding Ring quilts included in their Quilt Index.
Go visit the NYC MOD Quilters post HERE for more information about the deadlines, a list of the sponsors, and a list of the fantastic prizes. You can find out who the judges are, how the prizes will be awarded, and how to upload your entry into the contest when you’ve got it finished. You have until December 1st, so get started!
If you don’t want to wait to try and win a set of the rulers (even though there are lots of chances if you visit everyone on the blog hop), the EZ Double Wedding Ring template set and single arc can be purchased HERE or ask at your local quilt shop. You do NOT have to use these templates in order to enter the contest.
I will tell you, however, that these templates sure do make it easy. I could hardly wait to try them out, so I made this little sample using mine, and it was way quicker than I thought it would be:
Are you surprised that mine has a cowboy theme? I didn’t think so. I’m giving this one to My Cowboy to use in his Cowboy Cave when we get our house all finished. Or maybe I’ll steal it back to use in our living room when it’s finished.
I’m thinking about using this piece of fabric in my actual challenge piece . . . hmmm . . . I have way too many ideas for this!
Here’s the Blog Hop schedule so you can go visit everyone and have lots of chances to win yourself a set of these fabulous rulers:

If I am ever to attempt this pattern, I will need a set of templates and instructions. Maybe I’ll get lucky and win!
I have always wanted to make a wedding ring quilt. But haven’t had the right tools. My daughter got married last Sept. I want to make here one but instead I did a New York Beauty paper piece. I still want to make her a wedding ring quilt. I would love to win these great rulers. Thanks

Cool cowboy version, Shelly!

DWR is one of my favorite patterns, but I’ve never made one. I’m thinking these rulers would be a great help! I love your cowboy-themed DWR!!
Thanks for the DWR template giveaway. Would love to try this challenge.
This would be a great gift for my son’s wedding.
I’d love to try out the DWR. I’ll take your word for it that it’s easy. đŸ™‚
I’d love a set of templates! Otherwise I will need to call my neighbor and see if she will let me borrow her set. đŸ˜€ She has every template and quilt pattern known to man. LOL!
Fools rush in where angels fear to tread. Thus, one of the very first quilts that I ever made was a double wedding ring. However, I did have a sense of time and made it in a table topper size. It was lovely, if I do say so myself. I had no idea that curved piecing was hard. After all I had just sewn two wedding gowns and a bridesmaid and flower girl dress the previous year. Lots of curves in those things. But those templates might make things easier. When next I tried curved piecing it was an improved 9-patch and a template made that easier. With this template set, I might make a larger DWR.
With those rulers, I’ll bet I might stand a chance of making a DWR. I’ve had a low volume version nagging at the back of my mind for years.
Those templates scare me but I’m totally intrigued to try it. What a great challenge!
So exciting! I’m wanting to make one for my parents’ 35th anniversary.
This is on my list of quilts to make one day so it’s very tempting. Winning the rulers could tip me over the edge. Thanks!
