Quilting Weekend

The modern quilt guild I belong to, the Pecan Valley Quilt Guild, hosted a member retreat this past weekend. We met at the Comfort Inn in Chillicothe, MO.

If you are in that area, and ever need to host an event, I highly recommend this place. Everyone there was so helpful and friendly, and the site is just wonderful. We had a huge space to spread out and work in. We had a corner table set up with snacks, and they even brought us a mini-fridge to use while we were there. And they supplied us with ironing boards!

There were several of us in attendance. We’re a small guild, but nearly half our members were at the retreat. I know there were several others who would have liked to be there, too, but had scheduling conflicts.

We sewed Friday afternoon, all day Saturday, and a big part of the day on Sunday. Such a good time.

I always wonder why I can’t be as productive at home as I am at a retreat. First thing, I got this 9-patch all set together.

Then I started on my strip challenge for the other guild I belong to. I was using Thangles to make half-square triangles. I made lots of them . . . 624 of them, to be exact.

I also leader/endered on my Scrap Jar Stars quilt, and still didn’t seem to make any progress.

Here’s what some of the members were working on . . .

Roseanne made a very bright and cheery Log Cabin quilt:

This little guy stopped in to visit, and don’t think he didn’t know EXACTLY what that thing was for! He wasted no time flopping down on it for a rest.

Barb pieced this quilt almost completely from binding scraps from other quilts! That’s a lot of bindings, folks!

Katy set together this eye-puzzling Kaffe Fassett design:

Jean learned how to make the Jelly Roll Race quilt. She was over-the-moon happy about how quick this method is.

Donna worked on a baby quilt that I missed getting a shot of, Bev worked on a selvage quilt that will be really cool when she gets it done. Jessica and Amy were both working on Tula Pink quilts. Jeanette worked on a pieced quilt for the next Paula Party at the Sew Sweet Quilt Shop.

Stephanie made this Christmas table runner:

And Roseanne was finishing up her Starburst quilt:

The Quilt Police even paid us a visit. Officer Andrew gave us all citations for various infractions. Jean got in trouble for littering, Katy for polygamy, and I was cited for taking on too many projects all at once. Can you imagine?

I felt I was above the law, however, because I had previously been crowned “Queen of Blocks” at the retreat. I even got a tiara. And was then cited for removing the tiara when leaving the meeting area. That Officer Andrew!

We had various demonstrations throughout the event, on pressing, quick seam ripping, making a tissue holder, and making fast flying geese. Here’s Bev demonstrating the tissue holder:

As usual, it was over too soon, and I can hardly wait for the next one!

  3. Looks like fun and a great facility. You can’t get as much done at home because of chores, etc! You goof! I’m glad you had a good time in spite of things! Queen of the blocks. Cute! I like that rainbow log cabin. Pretty!
