News From the Studio, Episode 1557

I’ve been back at the longarm so steady that I’ve been making slower progress on all my own projects yet again, but I thought I’d pop in today to tell you about a few things I’ve been up to.

This week, I managed to squeeze out enough time to turn a couple of my most popular print patterns into PDF versions. My Winter Cardinal pattern is now available as a PDF:

My Wild Carnations table runner pattern is now available in a PDF version as well:

Both of these patterns can be found in my Etsy shop.

And look what I found while I was doing inventory! I still have a few of my Aweigh pillow kits — I didn’t even remember having these — guess I need to pay more attention. So I listed these in my Etsy shop, too.

The kit comes packaged in a reusable muslin bag that has an anchor design (just like the pattern) inked on the front. Inside the kit, you’ll find everything needed to make the Aweigh design into a wall hanging or a pillow (if you decide to do a pillow, you’ll need a pillow form). Fabric, batting, backing, pre-made binding, pillow back fabric, buttons, and a little bonus: a skein of red embroidery floss that you can use to embroider the design on the front of the kit bag, if you wish! The pattern is included, too, so you don’t have to purchase it separately. All you need is your own quilting thread and your favorite hand sewing supplies!

Since my Valentine Roundup post from last week, I have fallen in love with THIS pattern from Vanessa Christenson of V and Co. I might have to make one.

I’ve made a bit of progress on the second version of my Forever Fencin’ quilt. I need lots of blocks, and I haven’t counted how many I have just yet:

I also made a few more pairs for my Scrap Vortex quilt I’m making from Amanda Jean’s tutorial over at Crazy Mom Quilts:

And today, I’m hoping to finish up this Flower Pillow that I started in a class with Renee Nanneman of Need’l Love a couple years back. All it needs is the backing and stuffing — why do I procrastinate so?

I’m also steeling myself to begin this project:

I do NOT like to paper foundation piece, but I love this quilt so much, I’m willing to put myself through the agony to make it — haha! It’s called “Sliced”, and it’s by Amber at Gigi’s Thimble. I think it’ll help me use up even more scraps and stash. Anyone wanna volunteer to come over and tear all the paper off the back when I’m done? That’s the part I hate!

What have you been working on lately?

I’m doing a moose quilt for our favorite orthopedic surgeon who is retiring. We will miss him a lot. It is called Moose On The Loose from Keep Sake Quilting. It is very woodsy. He will love it. Yes please put me in for the drawing. I really like that flower pillow.

Hire your Cowboy to do it. He can perform the useful service while watching TV.

Have you thought of using water soluble
stabilizer for your paper piecing? Trace the paper pattern onto the stabilizer. ?????????

Good luck on sliced. I have been back to my default scrap quilts, 16 patch with finish like a scrappy star. They use fabric, but slowly.

As I sort I drift into other projects ….

I’ve found tracing paper is the easiest to remove. I also like vellum, but it’s pretty pricey.

I have recently fallen in love with the Arrowhead Puzzle block which I became aware of when Bonnie Hunter renamed it Garlic Knots. I think it will be a block I make often from scraps for quilts that will be donated. I was going to attach a photo of a Garlic Knots quilt top I made recently, but don’t see a way to do that.

I, too, detest paper piecing! I wouldn’t make it through one block of Sliced. Whenever I see a paper pieced pattern, I tell myself a very firm NO. there is only one in my future . . . a Mariner’s Compass. I want to make one and paper piecing is the only way to go.

Your flower pillow is beautiful! Thanks for sharing all your fun projects you have going. Enjoying all the inspiration and variety.
