News From the Studio, Episode 1291

It’s been business as usual around here this week — the normal ups and downs of life on a farm . . . during winter . . .

We’ve actually not had too much intolerable winter weather this year, and for that, I’m grateful. Every day, we’re one day closer to spring!

I’ve been busy in my studio, working on way too many projects all at once, like usual. This past week, I finished what may just be the ugliest quilt I’ve made in a long time.

I always say “There’s no such thing as an ugly quilt,” and I do believe that, but . . . I’m not too proud of this one. Evidently, I was just not inspired by the challenge!

Last month, I handed out the monthly block challenge, and I got a lovely bunch of blocks back this month:

Blox

I have plans to turn these into a charity quilt. It’ll be perfect for a child or someone who needs cheering up — such bright happy colors!

I belong to a knitting group that meets once a week, called Hearts and Hands 2 Others (or H2O), and we knit prayer shawls and lap robes for those in need, and baby things for the local pregnancy center. (I’m the slowest knitter in the bunch!)

My friend, Ginnie, made each one of us a mug rug for Valentine’s Day and gave them to us the last time we met. We could choose between red or blue, and you know I had to have red!

I got the 350 Blocks Project page updated with all your totals. So be sure to check and see if I have you on there and have your information correct. It’s not too late to join in, either, so if you haven’t signed up yet, and want to join us, let me know. I’d love to get to 100 participants, and we’re so close!

Tomorrow, February 15, the second installment of “Hazel’s Diary” comes out in the Kansas City Star, so keep your eyes peeled on The Life of Hazel Ilene blog for information on that.

And now, while the kids are napping . . . I’m off to go sew something!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

  1. Cindy says:

I don’t think that quilt is ugly at all. I happen to think it’s great!!!!!

  2. I agree with Cindy – it’s not ugly at all. If I was to change anything it would be to have a that pinwheel have tan solid instead of white. I invite you to link up to WIPs Be Gone and share those great blocks and of course the unugly quilt. Thanks, Shelly!

  3. Kathy says:

I really like the quilt, except that middle block. It doesn’t seem to fit in. But the rest of the quilt is great.

  4. Judy Smith says:

Those kitties are so cute. Do they always sleep like that?

  5. Susan says:

Cute little mug rug. I actually like your quilt that you are calling ugly! I think it has charm and it isn’t like every other quilt on the block.
