News From The Studio, Episode 1129

Posted on May 9, 2013 by prairiemoonquilts in Studio News, What's New

I’ve had so little time for blogging lately, it feels like I’ve just about forgotten how.

I’ve been very busy, and haven’t even taken the time to tell you about any of it.

For one thing, my sister and I went to the AQS Show in Paducah, KY, at the end of April, and I didn’t even take one single picture the entire time I was gone! But we had fun. I bought this FQ bundle of Robert Kauffman fabrics. I’m such a sucker for polka dots . . .RKFQBundle

And I got my scissors sharpened by the Scissors Man from Famore Cutlery. I love all my Famore scissors. I also bought another pair this time. Can’t seem to ever have enough of them! They’re stationed all over the house according to their various uses.Famorescissors

After I got home from Kentucky, it was time to gather up some quilts and go present a trunk show for the Starlight Piecemakers Chapter of the Boonslick Trail Quilt Guild in Columbia, MO. The program I presented was about how to draw inspiration for your quilting today from vintage sewn or quilted items.

I think I’ve mentioned before how much I love rescuing old unfinished quilt tops, orphan blocks, or linens, and turning them into something new. I think they enjoyed the program. I know I had fun presenting it.

My daughter went along with me to be a holder and folder. She had fun, too! She snapped this picture with her phone, of some of the quilts I showed representing the portion of my program that talked about the simple nine-patch . . .simplequilts

On May 2nd, the Kirksville Arts Association opened their newest exhibit, a Regional Arts Exhibition entitled “Best of Missouri Hands”, and I’m honored to announce that my quilt, “Purr-sian Delight: Miss Kitty’s Garden”, is included. The exhibit runs until June 21 at the Kirksville Arts Association building in downtown Kirksville, MO, so if you get a chance to go see it, please do. I’ll be in town this coming week, and hope to swing by to see it my ownself. Meanwhile, my quilt made the front page of the news article about it HERE.

At the end of the month, the Hands of Friendship Quilt Guild will be hosting our annual quilt show at the YMCA in Kirksville as well, so there’s another reason for you to be in town. I quilted this year’s raffle quilt, after our Raffle Quilt committee did a fantastic job of designing and piecing a quilt to fit this year’s theme, Reflections of Freedom. I’ll show you more about that quilt later.

I’ve got more to tell you about soon, plus I’ll draw for the winners of the April 350 Blocks Project report. So stay tuned . . .
