News From the Ranch, Episode 1093

Posted on December 19, 2012 by prairiemoonquilts in Studio News, What's New

It’s snowing today. Everything is turning white.

Although I’ve been outside some, I’m now inside for the day, with my feet warm and dry, my hot cup of coffee and a sugar cookie, planning to quilt. Perfect activity for such a day, don’t you think?

Hard to believe it was sunny and 50 degrees out yesterday! But I’m glad it was a nice day yesterday, because I had to make a trip over to Lincoln, which is a little over 4 hours away.

I had to go retrieve My Cowboy from the hospital there.

I try not to be a downer here on my blog, but the truth is, My Cowboy has been sick ever since I got out here. Seriously sick. As in, he-had-surgery-yesterday-to-get-a-pacemaker-installed kind of seriously sick.

So I’ve been kinda quiet on here, because I’ve been worried, and my Grandma always taught me if I didn’t have something nice to say, don’t say it at all! I’ve also included that to mean if I don’t have something happy to say, there’s no use bringing everyone else down with me!

But he’s home now, and recovering, and I got him home before the snowstorm hit, and I finished the last of my Christmas orders yesterday, so things are looking up.

Just in time for Christmas, which is only 6 days away, in case you weren’t aware. I don’t do much in the way of decorating. We don’t put up a Christmas tree, because it’s always just the two of us. And this year, I’m still not even unpacked, and just not organized enough to do any decorating. I’ve been a tad distracted . . .

But I know lots of people do put up a tree, and Heather, over at Books and Quilts, is hosting a Christmas Tree Skirt linky party, where you can share the story of a special Christmas Tree skirt you might have, so go over there and read about all the special tree skirts, and if you have one of your own you’d like to share, join the linky party.

Something I should have mentioned a long time ago, and for some reason I didn’t . . . have I mentioned I’ve been a tad distracted? . . . is that I have gift certificates! So if you are interested in a gift certificate for someone you know, just click HERE to give me a holler and we’ll get you all set up. I have them in any denomination for items in my Etsy shop, or in any denomination for longarm quilting services. I’m certain that by now, you are ALL finished with all of your Christmas shopping, but it’s something to keep in mind for birthdays, quilting friends, thank yous, or even next Christmas (can’t we all use an early start?).

I also want to pre-announce that I plan to once again be hosting my Final Countdown at the end of the year. Several days of daily tasks to help you start the new quilting year off right, plus prizes for your participation. So stay tuned for that.

I’m seriously delinquent on projects, postings, diary entries, and everything else related to the Hazel’s Diary blog, so I’m planning to just regroup over there and start the new year off on a better foot. Don’t worry, the rest of the current quilt-along WILL be posted. I won’t leave you hanging. I just need to get the holidays over with and My Cowboy back on his horse first.

And before I go, I’d like to announce the winner of the little box of clippings from my last post. Random Number Generator chose number 6 and that is . . .

Doris

Congratulations, Doris! I’ll get it mailed out to you on my next trek to the Post Office.

Oh, and I’m happy to report that the leftover magazines did not have to go into the recycle bin. I had a sudden flash of . . . something . . . clarity, brilliance, aneurysm, whatever . . . that told me to call up the local public library (and by “local” I mean 65 miles away) and see if they wanted them. They did! So I dropped them off on my way to Lincoln yesterday. They were thrilled to have them, and they are going to keep some for the library and offer the rest to their patrons. I’m sooo happy that they will have a good home!

I am glad your Cowboy is home and only a bit bionic! I’m with you on the decorating too! Oh, and the snow is falling here on the farm in eastern Washington too!!! Keeping my fingers crossed for a white Christmas. But now I need to bundle up and head out to feed the horses!!

I’ve been thinking alot about your Cowboy lately, wondering how he is doing… maybe some sort of sixth sense. So glad to hear he is on the mend. Merry Christmas to you both. Stay warm (has the storm hit there yet?)

I am SO excited to rifle through that box of clippings. Yay for me!

Are clippings those snippets of fabric that are “too small to use?” I have a box of those waiting for you when I see you again.

They are coming from the black chain gang project. Too bad you are not going to be at guild. Someone wants me to show them how to make white chain gang blocks. It will the reverse of black but being left-handed, I shouldn’t have any trouble with that!

  4. Barb says:

Hey Shelly! Glad to hear from you and that Scott’s home from the hospital. Sorry he’s not been feeling well. Let’s hope the pacemaker does the trick and helps him mend quickly! Merry Christmas!

  5. Pam says:

Shelly I finished the quilt. If you would like pictures, let me know. Thanks again for the quilting. A great job.
