May Procrastination Challenge

Posted on May 4, 2015 by prairiemoonquilts in Challenges

Well, it’s the first Monday of May, and I’m here to report to you that I did not make a single yo-yo this month!

I’m not doing so well on this Procrastination Challenge. While my goal was not necessarily to finish every item on the list, but to at least move each one a little further along, I’m not even doing so well on that.

For this month, I drew the number 4.

Number 4 on my list is a quilt I made called Baskets, Berries, and Leaves, which was a Jan Patek Block of the Month done a long time ago. My friend, Rose Marie, and I did this together. Naturally, she has hers finished!

I’ve had my top finished for a long time. This one only needs to be quilted and bound. Once again, I’m not 100% sure where it is, either, but I’ll feel like I’ve made one step in the right direction by simply locating it and making sure it has a backing prepared. Here’s what it looks like:

However, with a customer backlog calling my name, I don’t feel compelled to stop everything and quilt something of my own that doesn’t really have a firm deadline. So we’ll see what happens in the next month. If I can get caught up enough on customer quilts, maybe I can squeeze in something for myself, but I’m not taking any bets on that!

So how are you doing on each monthly project? Did you pick one for April and move it further along? Perhaps even finish it? I really hope you’re doing better than me.

Sue, as usual, finished hers right away and sent me a picture. Isn’t this darling?

I can’t wait to see what she does this month. I know she’s been sewing a LOT.

So let me know what you’ve been up to, and what you’ll be working on this month. I may have to just live vicariously through your finishes to get me by!

Oh Shelly I love that quilt!!! I want to see it in person. When you started this procrastination challenge, I really was hoping to finish it every month. Although that hasn’t been the case, I have made some progress. This month I’m going to work on my hand applique baskets. I haven’t decided how big I’m going to make it so I don’t know how many more I need to make.

May is a very busy month for us. I don’t get much sewing in. We have gardens to plant and a cottage to open clean and stock. As we are older we cannot do all these things in 1 or 2 days. May is also spring cleaning for me. I am however putting a binding on a quilt for someone for his grand daughter. He passed away last week and so I am finishing it for him.

My UFO getting my attention is also a Jan Patek book selection. It was actually designed, though, by Alma Allen. I hand pieced the blocks and set them together ages ago. I even marked the blocks for hand quilting. But procrastination struck big time. I cut out the triangles for the pieced border and forgot to add the quarter in seam allowance. Made me so mad, I threw the whole thing aside for 10 years. Luckily I threw in the fabrics for the blocks also. I cut out the right size triangles a little more than a year ago and once again procrastination struck. I finally have the borders pieced and two of them sewn on. I am finishing this baby and taking it to a hand quilter………..no excuse to procrastinate any longer. I’ll report when the last two borders are done.

My project is also a block of the month that I started a couple of years ago. The top is complete – I need to quilt and bind.

Well, I’m afraid I didn’t make any progress either. If nothing else though, the challenge is reminding me of my UFO’s and I’m getting the project pieces together. Hopefully I’ll do better this month.

  7. I may not be finishing as many UFOs as I’d like, but I’m working toward that end! I’ve finished two UFOs in four months and have nearly finished UFO #3…and I’m good with that 🙂
