March 350 Blocks Report

Posted on March 31, 2022 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

One fourth of the year already gone! Wow!

I’ve spent a LOT of time at the longarm machine, but I have also been sewing like the wind to finish some things up, so I had a pretty good total this month. I ended up with 130 blocks for March.

One was a guild exchange block (and I have one more to make yet):

I made eight wheelchair lap quilt tops, and I counted each of those as a block, if it was something I had to work on to put together. Each little quilt is only 36″ square. Here’s one of them before I had it quite finished:

I’ve also begun a new 100 Days Project, which I’ll tell you about real soon, but here’s what spawned it, and I have 21 blocks done so far.

I made 76 blocks for this quilt (you can get the quick tutorial HERE):

I made eight more 36-patch blocks. I’m so close to done — only seven more to make! And I squeezed in one more 9-patch block (will that quilt ever be finished)?

I made this scrappy tree block (free pattern for this block is HERE):

And started working on the vintage version of these blocks, but only have one done so far:

So now it’s your turn! What did you get done in March?

I have the Project Page updated with what I know as of this morning. Our new goal for April is another 30 blocks, for a year-to-date total of 104 blocks. No hill for us steppers!

The February prize winner is Deana J. She’s up to 292 blocks already!

Don’t forget: if you want to show pictures of what you’re working on, you can post in Christopher’s FaceBook group HERE. I finally got brave enough to post a goal of what I’d like to get done this year — it’s ambitious, so we’ll see what happens. According to the calendar, I should be 1/4 of the way there, and so far . . . . I’m not there. I need to get stitching!

I follow you like a sheepdog. Trying so hard to stay up with you. LOL
I made 186 blocks this month. 32 of them were for Thirty and Found!! A few more than 100 were blocks that I call strippy things……….made from leftover fabrics that were in strips too narrow for Jellyroll quilts. Turned out to be quite a good way to use up some of the stuff.

  10. Christi Bentley says:

It was a good month here as well! 218 blocks….finished my Bitcoin ladders, did some 4-patches and fish school leader/enders, 3 opportunity blocks for guild, mountain magic blocks, pears for a wall hanging, a pumpkin wall hanging, more for woodbury way and ruby jubilee. Way more blocks than quilt finishes this month, so next month will hopefully see more quilt finishes! Congrats on your great month.

  11. Kerry says:

I don’t think it counts, but had to find some sewing and the only thing I could reach was a bag with my ongoing cathedral quilt. So far this month I’ve managed to sew 7 inner squares and peel the background down while backstitching it with a contrasting colour. Takes ages to do one now, but this quilt has been on holiday/vacation with me over the years. No more holidays so it is good to get it out again – add cold snap with the weather and it is lovely to have on my lap!

  12. Wendy Tuma says:

Pretty slow month for me. Just 71 blocks. Maybe April will pick up a bit!

  13. Tanya says:

I am always trying to keep up with my goals! Kind of keeps me on track. I got 97 blocks done this month with one Plaid-ish quilt completed and gifted. One Quilt of Valor quilted and presentation case made.

  14. Barbara W says:

40 Blocks this month for me.

  15. Beverly Hovis says:

43 very tedious blocks. Tiny pieces and lots of them!

  16. Beverly V says:

I finally did it. March was great. 160 blocks finished and started another 24 appliqué blocks. I now have 3 quilt tops finished that I need to stitch together. I am planning a paper piecing project (new to this), so I can continue to sew when I am traveling. Trying to work with scraps, to continue cleaning up room. Cleaned out a bookcase. Reorganizing as cleaning out.

  17. Ginny says:

54 blocks for March. One table top, 60″ center for a 94 sq quilt. and most of a Urban Cottage. Sure hard to count tops with lots and lots of simple blocks. Now to finish these three. A must. No more adding to ufos.

  18. Karen E. says:

I made 278 blocks during March—lots of 3” four patches, which go pretty quickly. I was given a gorgeous yard+ of one fabric along with about 3/4 yard of a companion fabric. I had a red and a gold that work and bought a third yard of the right green today. I’ll post a pic when it’s finished.

  19. Louise says:

I did a lot of sewing this month. I am working on four different queen size quilts, but I don’t count my blocks until I have finished all of them for a whole quilt. So, my count for March is a big fat zero. Just wait until I finish them all. Then my count will go up.

  20. Ginabeth says:

I had 32 blocks this month.

I also finished 2 quilt bindings on UFOs. So excited as they were started in 2014 & 2016 respectively.

  21. Fran says:

131 blocks for March. I am really excited about this number as I was ill for two weeks and didn’t sew. It is wonderful to be well and sewing again.

  22. Peggy says:

I pieced the backing for my Plaid-ish quilt (5 big blocks), then quilted and bound it. Am working on a friend’s quilt request which has had the blocks finished for well over a year. Maybe I will piece a new quilt in April.

  23. Sharon Gratz says:

I’m reporting in with only 3 blocks. But the week long family reunion in an ocean front huge house at the Outer Banks ending with my granddaughter’s beautiful wedding was wonderful. 🙂

  24. Phillis Harding says:

317 blocks this month and got 3 quilted. One of them was 100 Modern Blocks. I liked it so much that I started another one. I really love your tree blocks.

  25. Judy Sovereign says:

Slow month. I only got 40 blocks done. Been working on my appliqué .

  26. Joan says:

96 blocks and one quilt top done this month. Thanks for keeping us motivated!

  27. Way to go, you had a great month. I am happy with my 50 blocks. April is looking promising for block making. I have found myself with an extra week off work. I finally get some Covid sewing time due to a close contact.

  28. Maxine E says:

I needed most of the month to quilt two baby quilts. I started on a new quilt at the end of the month. 13 blocks completed.

  29. Marlene Clausen says:

Total 48 for March. Pieced one that I will be hand quilting and made 6 more Dresden Plate blocks. That is a 20-year-old UFO and my goal is 6 blocks per month until it is finished.

  30. Wow, you had a productive month! I made 35 blocks.
I’m ok with that since I also finished a hand quilted UFO and managed to work on some other UFOs as well.

  31. Carissa says:

Looks like you got a lot done! I still love that pink quilt, it’s just too sweet.

I was able to sew quite a bit and finished 190 blocks this month. Next week is sewing for Easter and then I won’t be at my machine the following week, so I anticipate a lower number for April.

  32. Amanda M. says:

Wow! It seems that everyone had a really productive month. I only made 12 blocks for 4 projects including 1 new one. I didn’t even quilt much in March. Looking at my calendar for the month Timber filled the first 3 weeks and then Rain for the rest. I’m hoping my motivation comes back for April!

  33. Barbara B says:

    My March total is 220

  34. Debra Freese says:

I’m working my way through Jen Kingwell’s book Quilt Recipes. Done with the Daylesford quilt. 75 Diamond Exchange blocks (hand sewn in the evenings). Just need to cut the setting triangles.
    26 Wensleydale blocks.
14 Scrappy Sampler blocks for Jessica Dayon’s sew along.

    Total 115.

  35. Cindy Wienstroer says:

Busy month for other things – only 26 for me! Working on others but not finished so count in April. I did 5 paper piecing blocks while taking a class – fun to learn a new way!

  36. Diana S says:

Wish I could say I was keeping up with you! But I did manage 50 blocks made. 30 for a baby quilt and 20 for a rail fence top. Considering everything that was happening this month I will be happy with 50! More over the collar dog scarves as well. I think that soon I will be able to slow down making those, but I like to make some holiday ones as well. So I sew some everyday and add some holiday ones. It is certainly helping fabric used numbers!

  37. Wanda says:

    25 blocks

  38. Debbi says:

You are impressive! I need to dedicate more time to sewing but keep getting pulled in other directions. Only 39 blocks for me, but made the goal for the month at least 😊. Next month I’ll be vacationing for 3 weeks so only hand sewing for most of the month…hopefully I can get some hexies done.

  39. Shirley Guier says:

I’m going to count 20 for springtime in arrow rock and 25 for an obw that is now under my machine for quilting so that is a total of 45.

    21 blocks for March

  42. KT says:

A busy month for me, but I did manage 32 blocks. Started assembly on Springtime at Arrow Rock–hope to have the top done by the end of April!

  43. Clara Chandler says:

23 blocks and I enjoyed each one except one–required the seam ripper and a resew. I have to stay ahead of the BOM group I lead. This month’s challenge was the Drunkerd Path block which I’ve never made before. By the fourth one, I felt like a “pro” and all looked good. Thanks, Shelly.

  44. Deanna says:

March was much more productive than I would have guessed before I totaled it all up: 128 blocks. That makes 280 for the year. I should have four finished quilts to show for it soon as I am on a serious binding mission this weekend.

  45. Stephanie says:

    Wow, some big numbers there!
I was having a quilting marathon, but thanks to a beachside retreat did 60, all 10 inch blocks from straight set (not diagonal) skinny strips.

  46. Raewyn says:

Gosh I was really pleased with my 35 blocks but there have been some really big tallies this month! Well done on the lovely variety you made this month – including the lap quilt tops.

  47. KT says:

Another busy month for me, but I managed to finish 32 blocks. Started putting Springtime at Arrow Rock together–hoping for a finished top in April! Then on to the baby quilts.

  48. You had a very productive month! I’m intrigued by your new 100 days project. Those fabrics look old.
My block total for March was 89.

  62. Christine T says:

I made 22 blocks in March.

  63. Mary D. says:

100 for me this month. I did the Edyta Star mystery – I sort of grouped the blocks and counted it as 72. I also did a table runner, a pillow, and some blocks for a couple of other quilts. I was surprised when it turned out being such a round even number.
    Love the pink baby quilt!

  64. Bev C. says:

I did a total of 213 blocks. Also have 3 quilt tops done. Pretty productive month for me as I’m doing a number of sew alongs, quilt alongs and BOMs. 2 of them are machine applique which I haven’t done in a long time but am enjoying immensely. Breaks up everything else and gives me a change of pace. I’m also doing foundation string piecing. I’m thinking this month I should finish off my quilts that are ready for sandwiching. maybe…

  65. I’m submitting a very lame 2 blocks but after my first two months, I think I’ll be okay! I’ve been so busy setting up my new LA and organizing my new studio! April is certain to be better now that I have a new space to create! My studio tour here: http://livelylatte.blogspot.com/2022/04/tuesday-to-do-10-studio-prep-part-two.html
Thanks for hosting and I promise to up my game!

  67. Linda Knight says:

This was not a big month for me in quilting. I quilted and bound 3 throw sized quilts but one of them was the quilt for our new great-grandson due in August so I felt like it was a good month.

  68. Michele says:

    63 blocks this month.

  69. Finally getting to you with my blocks: 40 for the month. I’m happy with it but I’m hoping for more in April.
