Hurricane Sandy BASICS Quilt and Blanket Drive

As you may know, I’m a big supporter of my friend, Victoria’s, BASICS Quilt Gather project. Her original goal for the BASICS Quilt Gather was to get 700 quilts for families being placed in housing in the New York area. They recently met that goal of 700 quilts, thanks to the help of all of you out there who made and donated blocks and/or quilts to the project.

Well, now that Superstorm Sandy has devastated so much of the area, BASICS is once again putting out a call for quilts, so that they can help those who have been displaced by the storm. So many have lost so much.

This time they’re calling for quilts and blankets of any size, handmade or store-bought. The goal is simply to get as many as possible as quickly as possible. It’s very wet out there, and getting colder — quilts and blankets are a very necessary item for those who have lost everything.

You can read more about this drive HERE or HERE, and get the information on how and where to send your quilt or blanket donations. If you belong to a guild or group, please suggest that they get involved as well. Many are needed.

There are lots of other quilt drives going on for Hurricane Relief. I urge you to find at least one to donate to, even if you don’t choose BASICS. Every quilt or blanket helps. Thank you!

Thanks for spreading the word. I just send off some blocks and a check for batting to vesuviusmama.blogspot for her quilt group to make quilts. I also saw that Bonnie Hunter has sent out the word. Everyone can make at least a couple of blocks from their stash and help out.
