Exhaustion — The Good Kind

I spent the last four days at my guild’s quilting retreat at Sew Sweet Quilt Shop’s retreat center.

I sewed and I sewed and I sewed, and slept very little. I had a lot to get done!

And I did get a lot done. I kept my nose to the grindstone so much that I didn’t take one single picture, and I didn’t even collect any funny quotes this time. I was on a get-things-done mission!

While I did not finish one single quilt top, I did complete several sets of blocks, and moved several other urgent projects closer to the finish line. I’m pleased with what I got done, but still feel like it wasn’t enough.

This pile here is almost enough blocks for 5 quilt tops! The ones on top are for my “Remembering Almo” quilt, last year’s Kansas City Star Block-of-the-Month. They’re all ready for the applique now. Lots and lots of little tiny leaves . . . ugh!

And when I got home last night, I was completely exhausted — but I had so much fun! There’s just something about sewing in groups . . . a bunch of other people with the same passion about quilting as you have . . . no cooking, cleaning, errands, chores, or distractions (other than shopping at the quilt shop next door).

Games, food, laughter, fabric flying everywhere, sewing machines humming along, show and tell, and spending time with good friends and making new friends. There’s just nothing else quite like a quilting retreat. I’m already looking forward to our next one in September.

Wow, that’s quite a stack!!! Glad you had a good time and got a lot accomplished.

  2. Retreats are always so much fun! Since I rarely sew at home – always seem to be quilting instead – I love when I am not home and get to sew. And sewing with friends is even better! Love my guild’s retreat up in the mountains of Idaho!

We did have lots of fun. There were lots of funny sayings flying around the room too. You accomplish much more than I did but I was not on a mission other than to relax. It was spring break and I thoroughly enjoyed all the quilters around me and the fun and the food and laughter it was great!

  6. I love that block on top. That piece work plus applique….can’t wait to see more of that 🙂
