August 350 Blocks Report

Posted on August 31, 2020 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Well, that went fast! Do I say that every month?

Schools are back in session — it seemed weird to see the school bus go past the house after 5 months of not seeing it. Fall is getting closer. We’ve been having gorgeous weather. We are heading into my two favorite months of the year. I hope to get to slow down and enjoy them this year. With no fall Quilt Market, a lot of deadline work has been taken off my schedule — I feel so free! Until I remember that I still have plenty of deadlines as it is . . . and I’m really super behind. And there’s only 4 months left of this year.

I have a better block count this month, tho — I finally get to count all the blocks and sections I made for the Sew Sweet BOM quilts, Loretta’s Farm and Garden Samplers. You can see the quilts (and get info on signing up) HERE, if you missed them earlier. It starts September 12.

And then I made these two little scrappy nine-patch blocks:

I’m also making a lot of pinwheel blocks and some churn dashes, too, but I’m gonna hold off and count those all at once when I’m done, or I’ll lose track.

I had a total of 38 this month. How about you?

It’s time to report in and tell us all what you got done in August!

I have the Project page updated, so double check your totals and correct me if I’m wrong.

Our goal for September is another 30 blocks for a year-to-date total of 258. No hill for a stepper! Most of you are way on past that.

The July prize winner is Joan, who is up to 1628 blocks so far this year — Woohoo! That’s gonna help our group count, for sure!

I wish all of you a lovely September, and happy stitching!

283 blocks for August – 280 rail fence blocks for two twin quilts, 3 applique blocks (which took almost as long as all the rail fence blocks!)

  2. Louise says:

Only 78 blocks for me this month – my worst month of the year. But, I have been working on a huge project. I took all the fabric out of my closet, refolded it all neatly, and put it all back. Now I can see exactly what I have. And, folded fabric takes up a lot less room than fabric just jammed back on the shelf. So, that means that I can see how much fabric I have used in all the charity quilts I have made this year. But, it also means that I have room to add more new fabric. 🙂 🙂

  3. Amanda M. says:

I only have 18 blocks this month. I don’t think you got my July total of 77 blocks added to my year to date total which should be 400 after July’s report. I seem to have lost my piecing motivation but I have been quilting a lot…. I’m 3 quilts behind on binding but I did get the Studio Challenge done for the month!

  4. Paula says:

Sad to report only 6 blocks-I have hope September will pull my Kulo out of the quick sand!

  5. 47 blocks this month. After a couple of disappointing summer months, trying to get back on track. I love the projects you’re working on, but I still haven’t quite finished joining my Virginia’s Puzzle sections! So I’ll be content just to watch 🙂

  6. Pam Martin says:

  9. Paula Mu says:

Can’t believe it is September already. I did a bit better sewing blocks this month. I had 13 mug blocks, 20 Happy Little Wishes stars, and 4 Silver linings blocks. That made a total of 37 this month and a cumulative total of 992. The basement is almost repaired so my stash can go back in it. Yea! Hope all is well with you, Shelly.

I’m always surprised when your email pops up asking for our counts for the month, so you’re not alone in thinking the months fly past. I am so ready for fall and cooler days, which we’re now getting in Greater KC. I made 210 blocks in August for a YTD total of 1426.

  11. KT says:

Just 15 blocks for me this month–I was busy making masks and bedding for my kids to head off to college. I did finish another baby quilt–Elizabeth Hartman’s Llama–such a cute pattern!

  12. Angie in SoCal says:

Put me down for 75 blocks – my all time high for me. I have been busy, but only sent one to a longarmer. Got 5 tops to quilt myself. Hope you and Cowboy are doing well.

  13. Cathy Wight says:

26 blocks for me this month. But finally pieced together an awesome pumpkin exchange quilt since I got extra blocks finished for it. It’s going to be one of my favorites I think!

  14. Cathy Wight says:

  15. I got 27 blocks done this month. Hoping for more blocks in September with a retreat once a couple of weeks away

  16. Wendy says:

86 for me this month. I’ve done a bunch of secret sewing, so it’s a challenge to make sure I’m counting everything!

  17. Diane says:

121 blocks for me. 59 Kinship QAL blocks, 34 Pinwheels and 28 Mountains.

  18. Marsha Parkhill says:

  19. Marsha Parkhill says:

A mere 20 blocks this month but emptied a bag of crumbs to make 60 “crumb centers” which will grow up to be blocks

  20. denniele says:

Good for you! I finally was able to count some blocks and ended up with 69! I hear you about being busy…..everyone must really be enjoying sewing.

  21. Kerry says:

Lost count – although it wasn’t much, probably about 24 – most sewing at the beginning of the month was to join up the blocks and rows. Almost there and then borders. I seem to have overdone the 16 patches! LOL! Not exactly sure how that happened! I may use those as an outer border instead!
All were hastily folded away as our son came to stay for the last 2 weeks of August. In-laws coming this weekend – took son home yesterday! I neeeeeed to sew!!!!!!

  22. Cheryl says:

I did 177 blocks for August and took 3 quilts to be quilted.

  23. dianne says:

231 for me….finished up one quilt….3 bindings and doing the Moda Xmas embroidery which takes forever!!!

  24. Beverly says:

Finally I was able to get 20 blocks made and put together for a twin size scrappy quilt that I am working on. I was hoping to get more done, but had some issues with my little machine. Hopefully more this month.

  25. Randy Menninghaus says:

    46 for me

  26. Michele says:

Only 27 blocks this month for me. But I’m up to 437 for the year 🙂

  27. Rose Marie Smith says:

I managed 37 blocks this month. A few were embroidery blocks that I had not thought of counting earlier. Don’t let anything slip by!!! Meanwhile I am making some community service quilt tops and sending them on to my sister to be finished. I also am trying to clear and clean this whole quilters mess I have been hoarding for years. There is a real task.

  28. Stephanie says:

57 for me. 35 Heartstrings and 20 blocks of coins to join into columns. This month I spent most of my time quilting instead.

  29. Ginny says:

34 Blocks for August. Some small pieces quilted and bound. A twin quilt back from quilter and bound and mailed. Finished a snowflake top and off to quilter. In all a productive month along with some canning done.

  30. Suelynn Williams says:

15 – Lots of sewing in August! My projects take much longer than I envision…my slow and steady pace is yielding finished UFO’s in between block making. Oh, and my machine went to the shop where the turn-around time is a month!!!

  31. Christi Bentley says:

So 93 for me this month. Worked on my blocks for my guild quilt-along and some leader/ender blocks thrown in. Did other sewing projects that weren’t blocks, so got a lot accomplished.

  32. Sharon Gratz says:

It’s 46 blocks for me in August. I worked on a lot of projects, completed a UFO top using a lotto BOM win in 2014 and some random blocks, did some auditions and made a few decisions about layouts. I get bored easily so have a few things going on at the same time. By the end of the month, I forget what I worked on so am listing the date on the list. I feel better seeing what I worked on. 🙂

  33. Deanna says:

Nineteen blocks for me this month, partially because I had 86 masks. But, alas, they do not count. Still feeling good. Working away on my scrappy trips quilt and did a lot of cutting this last weekend for a new project. So, hopefully, sewing of blocks will happen this month.

  34. Life really got in the way of sewing time this month. DH had knee replacement surgery, wildfires are burning and my DD was her for almost the month visiting and getting some Mom to the Rescue time.

    Blocks 32 August

  37. Joan says:

191 blocks done this month. Finished one top that took a lot of persistence during two month to finish–lots of half-square triangles… It was fun to take out a Lucy Boston project and finish one block. Your block of the month quilts and applique work are fantastic–such talent!

  38. Angela Neese says:

15 blocks for a lap quilt for my Mom’s 87th birthday.

  39. Maxine E Euto says:

16 blocks for me! this summer has been pretty awful for my allergies. I’ve spent more time sneezing than sewing! It’s really hard to sew while sneezing! and pretty dangerous with a rotary cutter!

  40. Danice says:

48 blocks for me in August. Wow at all of the blocks that Joan has sewn! Yours are also very pretty.

  41. Linda Knight says:

I can count only 1 block which was a border I put on a quilt that I have taken to the quilter. I have also quilted and bound 3 quilts and made 6 masks.

  42. Barb Roberts says:

I did finally manage 28 blocks in the last week of August. Early August weather was too nice to spend inside!

  43. Debi says:

Working on 4 quilts at once. Who does that???!! LOL. Machine Embroidery Quilt, plus GE Design Sew along, plus Bonnie Hunter Sand Castle quilt (so many pieces and strings!), and Leader & Ender project. I feel like the energizer bunny, going, and going, and going! But, it keeps me from being too board, and sometimes I have two sewing machines going at one! All make lovely sounds, and bring my month total to 95. Whew!

  44. Susan says:

Congratulations on a good block total this month! I didn’t do as well, having only 12 new blocks. But I have a lot of partials ones. =) I think my total is now 183. I am thinking I might be having the worst year total ever this year!

  45. Julie M. says:

My August total fell short with only 23. Oh well hopefully I’ll be more productive next month.

  46. Not so great this month. I had 17. I have had days home-schooling my grandchildren, and had to quilt on my domestic machine as my Juki has been in the shop for 2 months. Hopefully this month will be better.

  47. Katie Z says:

93 blocks for me, to bring my total to 860. Considering that includes 4 weeks of homeschooling four kids and an emergency trip to Colorado, I’ll take that as a win!

  50. Judy Sovereign says:

I can claim 20 blocks this month. Gave 3 quilts and 2 afghans out. Got one to flimsy. Put up 25 quarts of whole tomatoes and 40 quarts of tomato juice. 17 half pints of peach jam. Now have shingles so not doing much . Feeling better so maybe some hand work tonight.

  51. Delana says:

Nine churn dash blocks for August.

  52. Marsha Y. says:

Zero!!! I have been dealing with severe sciatic nerve pain. shot that I received the middle of the month has finally helped, plus medicine, and I was able to get three quilts finished for customers. Hoping to get some sewing in this month before I schedule back surgery. I did however get 32 masks made for family members. Glad you are feeling some relief from events that are cancelled. It does give you time to work on other projects.

  53. Marilyn Holder says:

Total blocks for August is 16. Not much to show; I am still finishing projects. I am slow but will get there.

  54. Debra Freese says:

Sorry I’m late. Rearranged my paperwork and could find my list! 63 blocks for August.

  55. Marlene Clausen says:

Just realized I totally spaced checking in w/a block report for August. It is a whopping(!) 11. That includes two QOV’s I pieced and three orphan blocks (enough to convince me it is a quilt I won’t be making) that will become three mug rugs. I joined a LOT of blocks to finish three quilt tops and quilted and bound three others. Completed a 50 mask commitment for Lutheran World Relief. It was a busy month. I have a basted quilt ready to go as soon as I complete a quick mask order. It looks like this month will go the way of September, but eventually all those “made” blocks need to become TaDone quilts.

  56. Joy Dabney says:

So sorry for being so late to post. With school starting virtual and hybrid then going all virtual it has been crazy. Sad to say I didn’t do much for August except for some four patches I won’t count.I didn’t get anything done except for finishing a knitted cowl and socks. Hope to do better in September.
