Angie’s Rodeo Baby

Did you know that “Rodeo Baby” can make a great veteran’s quilt?

When I first made the quilts for my last Riley Blake Cutting Corners College tutorial, Rodeo Baby, I looked at them and thought, “These would make great Cowboy Veteran’s quilts!”

Well, great minds think alike, and Angie over at A Quilting Reader’s Garden, took that pattern and made a veteran’s quilt from it! Isn’t it cute?

I love that blue background! Instead of 4 blocks, she just used two (they’re big), and instead of appliqued stars at the top and bottom, she made pieced Friendship star blocks, and put them up and down the sides.

Angie’s quilt measures 36″ x 48″, which should make a great lap cover.

I also really like the quilting she did. It says USA in the middle:

My friend, Karin, over at Lovin’ Life At The End Of The Dirt Road, is also making a Rodeo Baby quilt, and you can see hers in progress HERE. She says she has a lot of her friends making them, too.

If you’d like to make one as well, the pattern is a free tutorial over at Riley Blake’s Cutting Corners College. Just pop over there and get it, and you’ll be on your way. It’s a very quick quilt because the blocks are large, and if you do fusible applique for the stars . . . well, you could finish it today!

  1. Thanks for the great pattern, Shelly. I like making quilts from big blocks. It went together great. I’ve just found the cutest rodeo toddler fabric which will be my next one using your pattern. This one will be a newborn quilt measuring 36″ square as they are a good size when they are tiny, and work well in a car seat and stroller without overwhelming the little one. I’m giving my VA quilt to my brother who is an 18 year Army vet.
