A New Chapter

Posted on November 5, 2012 by prairiemoonquilts in Travels, What's New

I guess it’s about time I spilled the beans on the latest happenings around the ol’ ranch . . .

Prairie Moon Ranch (and Quilts) is moving to Nebraska!

Almost every winter, My Cowboy goes where the available work takes him, and I usually stay here alone and take care of our place by myself. This time . . . it’s all worked out so that I can go with him, so we’re off on a new adventure — and the available work lasts year-round!

Naturally, I have mixed feelings regarding this move.

I really like the area where we’ll be living, but here in Missouri is where my family lives, and where I’ve lived all my life. I think I’ll miss my sister the most. But I’ll get to be with My Cowboy all the time.

I’m leaving behind a big bunch of my quilting friends, my guilds, and my favorite quilt shop (and most likely several of my local longarm customers). But thank goodness for all my long-distance quilting friends, groups, and customers (and online shopping!). Nothing has to change there.

I have to pack up my studio. I think this is the one that hurts the most. If you could only see this mess! It’s quite daunting. But it is making me clean up and get more organized, which I badly needed to do anyway.

And I only have a few days left to get it all done, along with a whole list of other things that have to be taken care of before I go.

My Cowboy is already out there, with the horses, and our cattle, and he has a few things in place and ready for my arrival (like a washer/dryer and phone/internet service — you know, important stuff!).

So my presence online will be fairly scarce over the next couple weeks, until I get settled in at the new place. I can already tell there will be lots of new blog fodder out there, so be sure and stay tuned!

It won’t be the same just having email and blogging. Shelly and I have been bosom buddies for more than 15 years. I wouldn’t be half as good a quilter if I hadn’t hung around her so much. I have already looked at the map to see where in Nebraska this place is. I think I can find it!!

Shelly, how exciting for you, but I know lots of work! I wish you the very best in your new adventure and move. You know it will be a little colder out there in Nebraska. I am sure once you are settled in, we can look forward to lots of pics from you.

  3. Good luck on your move. Moving is a lot of work – especially for us quilters! But this is a brand new adventure for you and your Cowboy. I wish you well and look forward to your new posts from Nebraska.
BTW, I used to have a couple of Great-Aunts that lived in Chadron [in the Panhandle], and there is at least one other blogger/quilter that I know of that lives somewhat near there. Elaine posts on the Quiltville Yahoo group sometimes, maybe you can “meet” her there and you will be on your way to making new friends in Nebraska!
All the best to you and your family!

I will miss our get togethers. Thanks for your help. I have
Learned. Sooo much. You and your cowboy just might have visitors. Even though it’s nebraska. Haha

Exciting and scary at the same time! Best wishes on your move Shelly! I look forward to hearing of your new adventures out in Nebraska. Selfishly I need to know: is it close enough for you to attend Gruber’s? Working on my Cowoy/Cowgirl quilt as we speak 😉

  7. Susan says:

Moving is never fun, Shelly, but I hope you enjoy Nebraska! Used to visit my grandmother in McCook…loved the awesome thunder storms in the summer!!!

  8. Cindy says:

I am going to miss having you three hours away, but I wish you both all the best in your new adventure!!!!

  9. Shelly, I am so happy for you. Good luck finishing everything up and getting moved. I know it’s a pain in the arse. So, what town is it again? I’m wondering if you’ll be close to The Quilted Moose. You’d like that shop! It’s in Gretna. Hugs! Once again, wish I lived there so I could help you get packed up….but I’d be bawling my eyes out that you’re moving!

I am so excited for you and your Cowboy for the move, but sad that you will be moving even farther away from me!

Wish I could take a couple days and come help you pack up! If the kids were a bit older I would be there in a heartbeat!

Take care of yourself…can’t wait for the stories from the new place!

Wow, what an adventure! And moving out there in the Winter!! I’m sorry though, that you will be far away from your sister. You seem to have a nice family and get along well. And she sews too, right?? I know you will be a busy gal for a while. But keep in touch 🙂

I’ll miss you in the guild, Shelly, but I know you have to take opportunities like this when you can. Maybe we all can come and visit you. I’d still like for you to machine quilt some of my quilts if you still want the job. Will Katy still come to our guild meetings? I’d hate to lose her as well.

  14. Barb says:

…Shelly, I have mixed emotions, as I know you do. Happy for you and your new adventure, but sad that you will be leaving us. Our guild has been blessed with your friendship, expertise, and your endless designs! I am blessed to have worked with you, learned from you, and even fed you when deadlines were looming. I am so proud of what you have accomplished over the years. Can’t wait to see what’s next!

I hope you have a BIG house with extra bedrooms, because you’re gonna have a lot of company…can we say, “Road Trip?”

  15. Terri says:

All the family is gone from our holiday celebrations, so I’m just catching up, and quite late in wishing you luck on your new adventure! What a big move this must be! Hope you’re adjusting well so far.
