QuiltCon 2018

The Modern Quilt Guild’s annual quilt show, QuiltCon, is going on right now in Pasadena, CA. Since I was just in California over Thanksgiving, I opted not to go back again this soon, and as it turns out, that’s a good thing, since I have these two to bottle feed and entertain every few hours. (They’re good kitchen help, as you can see!)

And the dog gets really nervous if I leave, and being nervous sends her into one of her spells, so it’s just better if I stay home as much as possible right now.

I didn’t even try to enter anything into QuiltCon this year, but Victoria submitted her “Color Study H1” quilt, and it got in!

Furthermore, we found out yesterday that it got First Place in the Modern Traditionalism category at the show! Woohoo! We’re both so shocked and humbled that it got a prize!

I quilted this quilt for her last summer. And frankly, I could NOT remember how I quilted it — I quilted so many herringbone quilts for her over the last couple years, this one completely left my mind! Most of them were for her newest book, Modern Quilt Magic, which, if you haven’t checked it out, you really should.

So she sent me a close-up to jog my memory:

It’s just simple ribbon candy and straight lines alternating. Truly nothing complicated, just a lot of it over and over again!

Once I remembered it, I found a couple pictures that I took while I had it here, so here are a couple more close-ups:

QuiltCon is a really, really fun show to attend, and I’m hoping I can get there next year when they have it in Nashville — we’ll see. I usually don’t come out of hibernation until mid-March, but late February might be close enough!

I’m pretty sure I’m missing a good show, and a chance to see a lot of my friends, and so many wonderful quilts!

Thanks for the close ups. I was wondering how you quilted it. Congratulations! So happy for both of you!

Nashville is definitely do-able in my opinion. I hope you get to go. Congratulations!! Since the quilting was relatively simple, I’m guessing that the judges were astonished at your accuracy – over and over and over!! You are my favorite modern quilter and I have been saying that for more than 2 decades!!!
