October 350 Blocks Report

Posted on October 31, 2017 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Was October a banner block-making month for you?

It finally was for me — I made a lot of blocks this month!

I made 20 blocks for this quilt, which is an alternate version of the Happily Ever After quilt from my book, “A Simple Life: Quilts Inspired by the ’50s”.

And I made 180 blocks for this quilt, which is my newest pattern. You can read more about this quilt, (and get the pattern) by reading this post HERE.

I also made 36 blocks that you will only get to see if you’re signed up for Sew Sweet Samplers BOM through the “It Takes Five!” program at Sew Sweet Quilt Shop, so I won’t be showing those here, but I’m adding them to my count.

So that makes a total of 236 blocks for me this month — woohoo! Don’t know if I can do that again before the end of the year, but every block helps our group count get bigger, so I’ll keep trying!

How did YOU do?

It’s time to report in with your totals for this month. I’m in Houston for Quilt Festival the rest of this week, so it’ll take me awhile to get the Project page updated, so bear with me.

For November, we’re making 27 blocks for a year-to-date total of 333 blocks.

Only two more months left in this year to make blocks, and I’m so excited to see if we can beat last year’s numbers!

Our prize winner for September is Katie Z., who has a total of 972 blocks so far!

Keep on stitching, and have a fabulous November!

I like this quilt. Looks like it was fun

  2. Sherry V. says:

    Great job!
Me, not so well, but I did hit double digits!! LOL

Put me in for 10 blocks.

I don’t think I will get any where near 350 blocks this year; but I have great hopes for next year!

  3. Maxine says:

I did not get any blocks done this month. I had a couple of quilt tops that I wanted to get finished before my surgery, partial mastectomy which was really a lumpectomy but they don’t call it that anymore. I was out of commission for a couple of weeks. Now, I am going to quilt those quilt tops. Hopefully I will get some blocks done in November as I have a few projects rumbling around in my head.

  4. Marlene Clausen says:

37 for October, more sewing, quilting, and binding than piecing this month.

  5. Becky says:

I finished several quilts by making blocks. Please add 134 blocks for me. I was able to mark 9 quilts as finished (quilted and binding sewed in too).

  6. Pretty quilt you are making. Count me 44 blocks for October, bringing my total to 353.

  7. Louise says:

I finished 405 blocks this month. Many of them were for quilts for Hospice patients.

  8. Grammi (aka Tonia) says:

I am amazed at the work some of you do! And even keep track of–I have sewn this month as an attempt to relax and enjoy the time with an audio book and my Hobby House. Maybe next year I can join the “Counting Group.” I have two quilts in the works and many ufo–but not as many as last year. My favorite is a second time around quilt called Salsa–I will post some day because it grows rows as I make blocks, so there is no moment of “O my gosh, now I have to put all this together” somehow that time is just plain annoying and doesn’t seem productive 🙂
Thank you for sharing wonderful numbers–that encourages me to get moving!

  9. Denniele says:

Great numbers, Shelly! My total for the month is 4….yep the big number 4. ?
Maybe next month will be better! Enjoy festival!!

  10. Karen Edwards says:

Hi, Shelly! I sewed 55 blocks in October. That was actually more than I expected it to be, since this didn’t feel like a very productive month. Good for you making so many blocks this month!

  11. Janet says:

Only 3 for me this month. You’ve really rocked it Shelly, and both quilts are beautiful.

  12. Kathy Fraser says:

Only 8 for this month. Hope to do better in November. Swapping rooms so I have more space next week I hope. Hubby sick again. Might have to go on IV transfusions for the rest of his life. It sucks. Will know later this week.
Anyway I hope next year is better. We could use some good stuff for a change.

  13. Rose Marie says:

I did 114 for this month!! Woo-hoo. But you know, I have to get more of these blocks together. 132 of the last three months’ blocks were all for the same quilt and now they are all done. Gotta set them together now. A quilter’s work is never done.

  14. Stephanie says:

Wow, that really was a banner month for you!
    Love those quilts.
I only managed 15 new blocks, as I was busily assembling and quilting a pile of previously made blocks. 6 Heartstrings quilts were finished in October, ready for donation, woo hoo.

  15. Cheryl says:

You did great, Shelly. I did 226 this month for a yearly total of 1000.

  16. Deanna says:

An amazing month for you! YAY! Add 30 for me, for a yearly total of 543.

  17. Barbara B says:

I completed 138 blocks for October.

  18. Fantastic job getting all those blocks done. You can add 54 to my total.

  19. charlotte says:

My count is down for Oct, only 94 this month, to many other things going on!! Until next time , “HAPPY QUILTING” , Charlotte

  20. Suelynn Williams says:

Love your blocks! Here’s what I did in September: 17
and in October 9 blocks for a fall wall hanging!
Mostly I wanted to finish rows from our road trip to a wedding in Nevada and getting backing and binding ready for a UFO which is now at the long-arm quilter’s.

  21. Linda Knight says:

I got 12 blocks made this month, but I also got a community service quilt quilted and bound for Rose Marie and added a border to another community service quilt for her and have it on my frame ready to quilt. And I got to start cutting out pieces for 2 more quilts!

  22. I made 21 blocks, but in the process have a nice bunch of smaller block units ready to assemble, hopefully to complete for November’s count.
Love your quilts! Ever since I first saw the second one, been wanting to starting making those blocks.

  23. Wendy says:

I got 83 blocks done this month. More than I thought. Yay!

  24. Betty K says:

I completed 40 blocks for the month of October. I met the goal, unlike last month. Yippie!!

  25. Angela says:

    Wowza, you’ve been busy!
I finished 114 blocks in October; which I’m rather pleased about.

  26. Diana says:

I have a goose egg for this month! Spent my time finishing 8 quilts for the Quilts of Compassion Texas Drive. A lot of binding was done! But there will be blocks added for November. I am back to sewing again!

  27. Beth F says:

Wow! That’s so many blocks! Good job!
I completed 36 this month. FMQ’d most of the month (I’m still a beginner & I’m calling it ‘organic quilting’ until my lines are neater!), pieced my gift quilt and I made bags & pouches & baskets for XMas. I’ve got a BOM that should be assembling blocks in November so I’m hoping my number is bigger next month!

  28. Mary D says:

Wow, Shelly, I love both those quilts!
I can only report 5 for the month. I made a wallhanging for our guild’s challenge that counts as one block. It’s a dresden with the spokes cut at different lengths, then roofs, doors and windows added for a circle of houses. I also made a trip around the world baby quilt that I’m counting as four since I did it in four sections. November will be better as I just finished 64 blocks this morning for a log cabin.

  29. Marsha Yahl says:

It seems like I should have more than 24 blocks made this month, but that is the count. I am working on quilt where you sew squares together, cut them and resew, trim, and then cut again, and sew the final block. So a lot of sewing required to get one block. So happy for you that you had such a productive month!!!

  30. katie z. says:

Woohoo! I’m up to 1073 blocks for the year.

  31. Wow, Shelly – that’s an impressive number. While not as many as yours, it’s the most I’ve made in a month – 70. Please add them to my total.

    Blessings,

  32. KT says:

Impressive numbers for you, and I love the quilts! I finished 37 blocks in October.

  33. Susan N says:

My total for October was 26. You did really well! Beautiful quilts, too.

I’m completely grumpy. Somehow, since last month, my entire record of this that I kept in my sidebar disappeared. I don’t know if it was something weird from when my computer died, or if I accidentally deleted it when I put in something else, but I’m disappointed. I liked seeing all the yearly totals there, and maybe I can find them again. Bah, humbug!

  34. Pam Martin says:

I only completed 3 blocks in October. Life has been hectic. I went to a quilt retreat the first weekend in November, so my November numbers will be better.

  35. Carolyn S. says:

My apologies for being so late in reporting that I completed 96 blocks in October. Thanks.

  36. Kari says:

Ok…I am a little late reporting….seem to not be getting prompts to check in! ….I managed 10….I have been focusing on quilting some tops and binding!

  37. Judy S. says:

I finished my Brunswick Saturday Sampler and not sure how to count those braided borders. I will count as 4 blocks for each side. If you think it should be less, please adjust.
That was it for the month, so I will say 16 blocks.,
