Gina’s Nine-Patch Challenge

Posted on January 4, 2017 by prairiemoonquilts in Longarm Quilting

Last fall, I quilted a quilt for a friend and customer, Gina. (I think it’s great that so many of my customers are also my friends!)

Gina received a bunch of 9-patch blocks from a group challenge, and this is what she did with hers!

She sure made them go far — this quilt is huge! And what a great way to tie a bunch of scrappy blocks together.

Here are a few shots of the quilting in progress:

I did a lot of feathers and swirls.

And some close-ups after it was finished:

Here’s the back:

It always makes me nervous to quilt a dark back with light thread (or a light back with dark thread).

Gina entered it in her guild’s quilt show in October, and I just happened to get to see the show and saw it hanging there.

Gina and her husband specialize in repairing old sewing machines, specifically Singer Featherweights, (and they have some for sale) so if you need any help in that area, I can put you in touch with them.

Gina and I belong to the Scrap Attack Club at Sew Sweet Quilt Shop, and there’s a meeting this Saturday. I’m sure she’s already got another big project in the works — I can hardly wait to see what everyone is working on!

some one gave me a bunch pf 9 patches. In old not so delightful colors. Remember that dusky rose of the 80’s? I did a disapearing nine patch. I tried mixing them up. I stopped .It is total chaos. now I am just rotating. I wish they weren’t such “not me” fabric… I am off to take a photo.

What a pretty quilt! Nice work on the quilting too. Thanks for the tip on the Featherweights — I’d love to have one someday, so I’ll keep them in mind and give you a heads up when I’m serious!

I have just fallen in love with this pattern. Did she use a published one or make it up? Any way to get a copy of it? Also would like info on their featherweight.

That’s a beautiful quilt and a great way to stretch simple blocks into something not-so-simple. Your quilting is beautiful and really added to it.
