2012 Final Countdown Task Three

Posted on December 31, 2012 by prairiemoonquilts in The Final Countdown

Wow! Already time for the last Final Countdown task. That went quickly!

How have you done so far?

I’ll admit, I’m struggling . . . but then again, I did just move . . . for the second time in 2 months . . . so not only is all my sewing stuff unorganized, my whole house is as well!

Today’s task is a good one, though:

Pick a project to work on that is just for you.

Is there something you’ve been wanting to work on just for yourself, but haven’t taken the time? I know with the holidays just over, that a lot of you have been frantically sewing for others right up till the last minute, so now that that’s over, now is the time to get to work on something just for yourself.

Me, I’ve been wanting to put a practice quilt on the longarm frame — something I can just practice new designs on that won’t mess up a customer’s quilt. However, since I’m not quite put back together since the move, I don’t know if that’s really a practical project for me, so I’ll probably pick something else. I’ll let you know what it is in the next few days.

How about you? Go make something for yourself!

And there you have it, your final task. You have until January 5th to get the tasks finished and leave your comments here. I’ll announce what the prizes will be soon, in case that gives you a little incentive to work a little harder, and I’ll announce the winners on January 6th.

Thanks so much for playing along!

That is a good project. I have an Asian fabric quilt that is just for me and has been in my chest for nearly a year awaiting quilting and binding. I put it on the quilt frame yesterday and it will be my project to finish.

The project just for me is Twas the Night Before Christmas. I fell in love with Kaaren’s pattern, but knew I would put it off without motivation, so whit Kaaren’s permission, I’m doing a quilt a long starting on the 1st. Naturally, I have to work a little bit ahead. The design is traced for the first block and as soon as I find the correct needle, I’ll get the stitching done.

This one is easy! LOL! I got up at 5 AM so I could work on my Easy Street quilt, Bonnie Hunter’s current mystery. This quilt is for my and my family….it is the first thing I have worked on for ME in ALL of 2012! I just figured that out this morning….it is the only thing I have pieced that will stay in the house!

Something is horribly wrong with me…..I plan to fix it in 2013!

My first get-it-finished task after Christmas has been to iron a laundry basket full of scraps leftover from my mom’s 1950s sewing projects. It’s been a treat to go down memory lane as I’ve laundered, ironed, and sorted three large plastic storage containers of fabric. I’ll use some of the scraps in my Magic Squares quilt that I am hand piecing using scraps both vintage and modern fabric.

Well I won’t be able to complete this project by your date, but as soon as I am able to quilt again I’d like to a landscape quilt for myself. I recently bought the book Accidental Landscape, and it looks like fun projects.

  7. Rose Marie says:

My favorite thing is to start something new and then cutting fabric. After that is piecing and then adding borders and last quilting. So I did two of my favorite things. I pulled out fabrics for a new quilt and stacked them neatly in a new pile (yes, yesterday we reduced piles but today we start a new one) And I cut and pieced lots of additional blocks for a scrappy red, tan, and blue ocean waves quilt. I just stayed and stayed and stayed in my quilting room. Almost forgot that the rest of the world is spinning. Bliss! Thanks, Shelly.

I just today pulled out a Schnibbles wall hanging that I have been wanting to make for a couple of months. I had it all cut out, just waiting for me but the Christmas gifts had to come first. I was able to piece three five inch star blocks…very fun.

  9. Betsy Albertson says:

Ok, I am working on something just for me, not sure if I will get the other challenges done or not, but sure want to finish the one for me. 🙂

  10. Linda says:

Project number two done. I have sorted my scrap bin by colors and can now pull the small scraps out to begin Chinese coin strips. I actually found several strips already sewn together for seed to make a quilt grow.

  11. Cindy says:

I am working on a sewing themed wool candle mat. My sister got me the pattern for Christmas. Now that I have done the prep work, I can actually get started sewing.

  12. Linda says:

Project number 3 completed. My Asian quilt is done.

Here’s a link to the blog post about my three tasks. http://knitnoid.wordpress.com/2013/01/05/countdown-to-2013-recap/ Thanks for hosting this challenge, it does tend to give the sewing area a clean look to begin the new year.

  14. Gail says:

Ok… I have completed all three tasks. This was a great challenge! I really enjoyed it. I have been so sick these last three days with this horrible cold that my whole family has had over the holidays but I did manage to come down to the sewing room today and finish off the challenge. Thanks so much for hosting! http://notionnanny.blogspot.ca/

  15. Some day I can join in again on this. I am amazed at how many people are joining you. Way to go!
