March 350 Blocks Report

Posted on March 31, 2018 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

The first quarter of 2018 is now behind us, and we’re speeding toward the end of the next one — boy, how time flies!

I did a little bit better this month, thanks to my guild’s retreat. I ended up with 51 blocks for March — I finally met the goal for once!

I finished Block 14 of the Anthology quilt:

Houses 9-14 of the Village quilt:

I made this scrap block for Janet at the retreat, for a community service quilt she had us work on as a group:

I completed the 12 blocks for my Mystery quilt — the big reveal is at our April guild meeting, so I’ll show it to you then.

And I made this quilt top from a jelly roll, and I’m counting each long strip as one block, so 24 blocks:

I also made 5 blocks for pillows, and I’m working on a couple of quilts that should boost my block total some. I’ll show those to you after they’re not secret any more.

So how about you? Did you have a productive March?

It’s time to report in with your new totals, so leave a comment or contact me to let me know how you did this month.

Our new goal for April is 44 blocks, for a year-to-date total of 103. Some of us are way past that, some of us have some catching up to do, but that’s OK. There’s still a lot of time left, even tho it will seem to fly by!

The prize winner for February is Pam M., who is up to 83 blocks as of the end of February. She’s ahead of the game!

I have the Project page updated as of the time of this post, and I’ll try to update it in a few days after more totals have come in, so check there to see everyone’s progress (and to make sure I have your total correct).

Tomorrow is Easter Sunday, and April Fool’s Day. April Fool’s indeed — we’re under a Winter Weather Advisory until 7:00 tomorrow night! Sunrise services are going to require a winter coat! How is this spring? Brrrr!

Whatever your weather, I hope you have a fabulous weekend, a wonderful Easter, and a very productive April — happy stitching!

I was able to complete 71 blocks this month. Many of the quilts were quite simple and will be given to Hospice. I have completed many more components for a queen-size quilt that I hope to have put together in April. Since they aren’t completed blocks yet, I will wait until later to count all of them.

  2. You had a good month. I got more done than I thought I would with a total of 33. A little short of the total. Never mind happy I got close.

  3. Sherry V. says:

Ok, I was able to get 22 blocks done. A sample for a quilt I am doing for a blog hop in April, 12 blocks for a Turning Twenty quilt, and 9 blocks for a tee shirt quilt I am doing for a friend.

I also got some crochet work done….and I was reading a bit so it was a very good month for me.

    Happy Easter!

  4. Melissa Pagliai says:

120 blocks for Me! Retreat definitely helped me this month.

  5. Beth F says:

    Happy Easter!
I got 42 new blocks made, a quilt assembled & quilted (I used rulers with my home machine and it took me a while to get the hang of it, but my lines are perfectly straight! Why didn’t I do this years ago?), a quilt laid out & ready to assemble and another assembled & waiting on more fabric.

  6. Judy S. says:

Big Fat Zero for me this month. Knee surgery got in the way of sewing.

  7. Amanda M. says:

I got 32 blocks created this month, 2 quilts quilted and the binding on one. I also found half of the fencerow with the chainsaw on the new place which was a major accomplishment! I am hoping that the early cabbage I have in the garden doesn’t freeze in the next few days or any of the cows decide to calve since we seem to be heading back into January instead of April!

  8. HI Ladies. I did pretty well this month. Total of 189 blocks. My mojo was in hibernation for a while so I made some 4 patches , crumb blocks and they added up. Also made to to 10 1/2 inch blocks that look really cool.

    Happy Easter

I was able to sew 96 blocks this month. 20 of those were my Dear Jane blocks. Quilted 4 bed quilts and just need to get the binding hand sewn. Really having fun trying to get caught up with UFO’s but don’t want to get behind with the quilting pile. I went to the quilt show on Thursday and came home with more quilting rulers for my domestic machine. I can’t wait to try them out.

  10. Julie A Craven says:

I finished 111 blocks this past month. They were log cabin blocks for my BEST cousin’s granddaughter. She graduates from high school in May!!!!!!!! Now I just need to figure out how I want to quilt it.

  11. Pam Martin says:

I have 82 blocks total for March. I have the top completed for cattail in the meadow, a Judy Niemeyer quilt. I still need to applique the cattails on before I send it to the quilter. I started Glacier Star another Judy Niemeyer quilt I have 20 units done and I finished a challenge quilt that had 42 blocks.

You were busy!! It is always nice to count at the end of a month….I am usually surprised. 103 blocks this month.

  13. Becky says:

110 blocks for me. 16”x16” blocks of HSTs.

  14. Maxine says:

Happy Easter! I made 64 blocks even with 2 weeks of no sewing due to vacation and helping out my brother. The blocks are for a baby quilt. I am attaching the binding and will be ready to mail it to the expecting mother’s baby shower!

  15. I got a ton of longarming done this month, but still had a lot of time to sew. I got 61 blocks done in March.

  16. Mary D says:

I did an odd assortment for various projects to total 37 for March.

  17. Erin says:

    I did 112 blocks for March – completed a workshop quilt 🙂

  18. Barbara B says:

Zero for March, we were traveling.

  19. Cheryl says:

Hi, I did a total of 200 blocks for March, of those 21 were Village blocks. That makes my YTD 287.

  20. Susan s. says:

You got a lot done. Love that quilt top. Some friends and I were just talking about that design. I think i want to make one! Did you use a special ruler?

I got 162 blocks done this month; thanks to all the snow we got. It was good sewing weather. I got two BIG quilt tops made (and quilted) as well as several placemats and potholders for gifts. Oh and not to forget, a new Easter tablerunner for me!

  21. Virginia Smith says:

Congratulation to all of you. Great sewing. I made 36 blocks for March. Machine quilted a double quilt for a granddaughter and mailed it the 20th. Hopefully gardening will have me pushed to get blocks and quilts finished for the next several months.

  22. Angela says:

I completed 88 blocks in March!
My totals will drop once warmer weather arrives. I’m ready for Spring weather and itching to get my hands in some dirt. I have a lot of flowers and shrubs to plant. ?

  23. Wendy says:

I have 56 to report. One quilt I’m working on is all HSTs, and if I counted each one as a block I’d have 104 to report. However, I decided to group the HSTs into 4 as a block.

  24. Deanna says:

March was a little slower for me, but, still, 32 blocks complete. I really like your jelly roll quilt.

  25. Diana says:

Hi Shelly, yes, several of us were discussing your quilt top. Love it! You had a good month. I managed 88 blocks for the month. 2 completed tops (71 blocks) and then 8 for a mystery and 9 more for the Quilted with Love yahoo group. It helps to be able to take a sewing machine along when we take off for a week at a time! I am happy with that.

  26. Suelynn Williams says:

    My March total is 5.

  27. Slow month for piecing – put me down for 20.
    Happy Easter Monday!

  28. Shirley Guier says:

I had 118 this month. Quilting on one now.

  29. Karen Edwards says:

    Hi, Shelly!

I made 69 blocks during March.

  30. Rose Marie says:

I finished 191 blocks this month. (no wonder my fingers are sore) I’ wondering if I should stop going to retreats……..I started so many things this month.

  31. Sandy Hartman says:

40 blocks done this month! I was surprised I had that many – doing a little bit each day adds up!

  32. Danice says:

Beautiful work you are doing. Well, I completed only 11 blocks in March. ‘Trying to quilt all of my many WIPs, lol. Congrats to prize winner Pam M.

  33. KT says:

I got 68 blocks done in March. Sewing is going to have to take a back seat as soon as spring arrives here–hopefully soon! We got 6″ of snow yesterday! Love your jelly roll quilt!

  34. Marlene says:

34 for March. More quilting, less piecing. Will be doing same for April . . . not a quilt until it’s quilted!!

  35. I thought I had zero, but I actually logged 14 blocks….not a woohoo moment, but better than none. I made tons of HST’s for a mystery quilt so hopefully they’ll become part of my April block total.

  36. Marsha Y. says:

Even though I have been busy trying to finish quilts, I did manage to get 28 blocks completed this month. Hope to have more next month as I have a lot of sections made and ready to be put into blocks.

  37. Patricia Hotz says:

I got 38 Blocks done this month. Thank God for the ladies at Church they give me kits and I sew them together into a quilt top. If I didn’t get those I probably wouldn’t get anything done but a few blocks for myself.

  38. Elaine says:

I so glad for your comment about counting each long column as a block. I was wondering how to count “blocks” on a color wash quilt top I made. 47 blocks done.

  39. Johnna Clarke says:

I am involved in a community theater play, so rehearsals and ad sales, t-shirt sales, etc. are keeping me busy, but I still managed to sew 23 blocks for March. I went to MSQC on a whim last week and found out that investing in templates is so worth it for me. My cutting is going so much faster! I am crocheting a belt for my costume, so that has also slowed me down – I’m not too fast with that needle either. I love your work – you are amazingly talented!

  40. Susan says:

It’s so nice to see a huge total of blocks for you! I like that trapezoid quilt top, too. I did well, also, thanks to a mystery QAL and a Patriotic QAL – well, I’m making mine patriotic, anyway. March Post. 47 blocks. This is my fourth March report since I started doing these with you!

  41. Susan says:

Ooops, 5th March Report! And a total of 105.

  42. I’m pretty sure I forgot to check in for February as my total at the end of March is 181. Only 19 in March but that’s more than some of last year’s totals so I’m happy!

  43. Beverly V. says:

19 blocks for one quilt and 11 for my travel memory quilt, if I didn’t count them last month. I honestly cannot remember if that was February or March when I did those.

  44. Stephanie says:

This month I worked on QAYG string blocks to send off to a friend for her community project – 80 blocks made and sent. And 30 pieced smaller blocks to swap at a retreat = March total of 110 blocks.
Still haven’t unpacked and counted the stragglers from February.

  45. Linda Knight says:

I did not have much quilting time in March. I counted the work I did as 3 blocks. I put together a top of strips and have added circles to it but mostly I got backings and batting ready to quilt several small ones I have in my ready stack. I managed to get one on the quilt frame but haven’t had a minute to quilt on it. That’s spring in Arkansas when you have a gutter business.

  46. Grammi (aka Tonia) says:

Hi! I keep forgetting to get on the computer when I come in from quilting and register my numbers for March! It amazes me that little by little I accomplished more than I had imagined! But, April will be lagging because I have a couple of sew-them-altogether finishes in the works. Plenty of sewing time but not many blocks. This being said:
TA DA drumroll I have 81 for March!!!

  47. Michelle G says:

    52, woot woot!!!

  48. Delana Becker says:

March is one block but April is already better since I went to the Missouri State Quilt Guild’s Spring Retreat. Yeah!

  49. I had 27 blocks for April.
    Yvonne

  50. Marlene Clausen says:

Busy, busy month for me. Completed the quilting on two UFO’s (sandwiched and quilted and bound them), made a Quilt of Valor and matching bag. Block count for April is 120.
