Handstitching Progress

Posted on March 26, 2018 by prairiemoonquilts in Handstitching

We’re nearly done with the first quarter of 2018 — how can that be already?

And . . . how is it not really spring yet? I’m ready to open up the house and let some fresh warm spring air in — my living room smells like a barn!

It’s been storming off and on here for the last week or so. Lightning keeps me from running the longarm, and rain keeps me from taking the girls outside to play. So I’ve decided to post an update on my 365 Days of Handstitching.

We’re on Day 85 of 2018, and I’ve missed a few days, and I haven’t finished much (yet), but I’ve worked on lots of stuff.

I put the binding on this throw quilt I made for my daughter’s best friend:

I’ve been working on my Yo-Yo quilt:

I put the binding on my MixMash quilt:

I crocheted this spa washcloth for my daughter:

I’ve done some applique:

Including Block 14 of the Anthology Quilt:

Which is from this book, in case you’re interested:

I finished all the leaves on one of the blocks of my Remembering Almo quilt (the 2014 Kansas City Star BOM):

And I’ve been working on this freehand embroidery doodle:

I only allow myself to work on this on Sunday evenings, and it’s all freehand embroidery that I’m making up as I go, to use up odds and ends of embroidery thread I have on hand. It’s really been fun to see how it grows each week. I haven’t gotten to work on it the last two Sundays, so I’m anxious to move it forward some more.

I also started a new shawl, which I really didn’t need to do, what with so many other projects going on, but I didn’t let that stop me. I’ll show it to you a bit later.

And that’s what I’ve been working on in my chair of an evening! Have you been doing any hand stitching lately?

I was just gifted an unfinished tablecloth that a friends friend had started. It is all embroidered flowers on each corner. It will be a challenge but I would like to try and finish it. Will let you know how it progresses! Can’t wait to see your shawl, I just finished baby sweater for granddaughter just needs buttons!

  2. That’s a lot of hand stitching and beautiful! Your embroidery is going to be a great piece.

you are just so talented, no matter what you do, love the freehand embroidery piece you are working on and the Mish Mash quilt is so vibrant and cheerful!!! what is this pattern? looks kind of like a courthouse steps? without a strict color order? The throw has such beautiful quilting so I would say you are doing very well with your goal. take care from Iowa

Your work is always so beautiful!

I’ve had to contend with illness, so my sewing has slowly down to almost a halt. Right now I’m crocheting a “groovy” belt in psychedelic colors for my costume in the Class of ’69: A Reunion interactive dinner theater. All my sewing will stall for a few weeks until the play is over. I hope to make up for lost time in a month or so.

    Love your hand embroidery!

I just finished the blanket stitching step of a “bind it cushion” (pattern from Primitive Gatherings).

I am doing some hand stitching also. I recently finished a small embroidery wreath that I will frame and quilt as a tiny quilt. I think I might have started the wreath about 3 years ago. The trouble that many of us are getting into is that our descendants, who will have to clean up our quilt rooms after we die or go to the nursing home, will think we never finished anything because of all these UFO’s.
