The 350 Blocks Project 2017 Winners

Posted on January 14, 2018 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Well, another year of making blocks has sped by, and here we are, at the time for announcing the prize winners.

But first, our 2017 statistics, because I think it’s fun to see how we did as a group, and how we did against previous year’s numbers (You can find links to previous year’s reports at the bottom of The Project Page). So here we go . . .

2017 statistics:

  • • We had 99 participants sign up this year — down from last year, but I kind of expected it, at this point in the project. Still a good number!
  • • Of those 99, we had 82 reporting participants.
  • • Of those 82 participants, 55 were considered active participants, by reporting in at least 6 times during the year.
  • • Of those 82 participants, 42 made it past the 350 mark! (One more than last year!)
  • Twelve of us made it past 1000 — impressive! (Should I start calling this the Thousand Block Project?)
  • • The greatest number of blocks made by one participant was 1569, made by Carolyn. Wow! That’s almost 4 1/2 sets of 350 blocks! In other words, a LOT!
  • Karen E. came in second this year with 1534.
  • Louise takes the third slot, with a total of 1532. Karen and Louise must have been sewing together!
  • • The average number of blocks made by our group each month was 3047. We made it past the 3000 mark! We may have been a little bit smaller group, but we were much more prolific!
  • • The total number of blocks made this year by our group was 36,568! Wow! Let’s have a moment of silence as we ponder the sheer number of quilts that many blocks will make. Incredible! I’m really happy that we still beat last year’s total by 1,158 blocks, even tho we were a smaller group!

I really am impressed — and so proud of all of us!

Are you ready to try it again in 2018? I didn’t even debate it this year — I just knew I wanted to do it again. I know I have lots of blocks to make! I hope you’re with me.

But first, I need to announce the rest of this year’s prizes . . .

Our December monthly prize winner is Delana, who made 177 blocks this year!

For the Project as a whole, there’s a Grand Prize package, and three other prize packages. The Grand Prize package is valued at around $100, and the other three are valued at just around $60 each. I gather things little by little all year to put in the packages (all stuff I’d like to get my ownself, if I were eligible!): gift certificates to online fabric stores, books, patterns, fabric, notions, etc. — so I hope that makes it worth your time to keep track of all your blocks and report them in!

The Grand Prize winner is drawn from among all the participants who made it past the 350 blocks goal. The other prize winners are drawn at random from among all the active participants, regardless of how many blocks you made, and it also doesn’t matter if you’ve already won a monthly prize — your name gets thrown back in for the grand prizes. The only rule is that you must have reported in at least 6 times throughout the year to be considered an active participant, even if you reported in late, and even if you reported a ZERO for the month.

So here we go . . . The Grand Prize winner is:

Diana S.!

Diana made a total of 766 blocks, over 2 sets of 350!

The other three prize winners, in no particular order, are:

Crystal (442 blocks)

Suelynn (201 blocks)

Darlene (78 blocks)

We had a great year! I’m excited to see what we can do as a group in 2018!

Congratulations to all the winners, and as always, thank you ALL so very much for joining in and playing along with the Project this year. You have no idea how much I appreciate it, and I really enjoy hearing from you every month!

I’ll be back tomorrow with the start of the 2018 350 Blocks Project. The rules are the same as last year — it’s still easy, free, and has prizes! So check back in Monday and get signed up!

  1. Wow that is a lot of blocks. Even though I had a lean year in 2017, I am looking forward to starting 2018 with a bang.

I can’t believe my name was drawn for the grand prize! I think the total number of made blocks by the group is fantastic. A lot of quilts. I never stopped to count blocks before this past year. Always counted quilts. But it is fun to see just how many go into our quilts! Thank you again Shelly for taking the time to run this project.

  3. Deanna says:

I am already tracking! Thank you for the time and effort you put into this.

I love this challenge, but I seem to not get messages and forget to put in my numbers for the month. Oh well, I’m making blocks and that is what counts.
Thanks for doing this for us.

  7. Marilyn Holder says:

Total for May is 4. Finishing quilt and quilting it.
