The 100 Day Project

Over on Instagram, @elleluna and @lindsayjeanthomson are hosting #The100DayProject.

I love the idea of 100 days for doing something, and I’ve written about how I use 100-day segments for accomplishing things before (click HERE to read about it).

So I’ve decided to join in on this Instagram challenge, too. You pick something that you plan to do for 100 days in a row, make up your hashtag, and set to work. It started April 4th, and I landed on the hashtag #100daysofhandstitching for my project.

I’ve been procrastinating on lots of hand-stitching projects, and this is just the boost I need to make myself sit down for a little bit every day and move some of those projects forward, and possibly get some of them finished!

So far, I’ve done some hand quilting:

Worked on this fun little appliqué project, inspired by this great piece of Polka Dot Stitches fabric by Lori Holt of Bee in My Bonnet:

And I hand stitched my Cathedral Window panel to a square of fabric for the front of this pillow:

And sewed the buttons on the back:

This pillow was partially made from a pattern by A Spoonful of Sugar Designs. It’s a downloadable PDF pattern from their Etsy shop. My Cathedral Window units are smaller than hers, and I do mine completely by hand, so I had to make adjustments to the assembly of the pillow, but I still recommend the pattern if you want to make this pillow. She shows you how to do a lot of it by machine. (The fabrics I used are from Olive’s Flower Market by Lella Boutique for Moda.)

During the next 100 days, I hope to work on a lot more of my hand-stitching projects, so I’ll give you an update every now and then.

Are you on Instagram? Would you like to join in on #The100DayProject? It’s not too late. Just decide what you’ll do, make up your hashtag, and jump right in! Find me over there @prairiemoonquilts, and if you decide to join in, let me know, so I can look at what you’re working on for the next 100 days!

This is so tempting. I don’t know if I could stick with it though, so I need to think of something that would keep me going. I might have about 100 unfinished quilt tops (not really, but close) — haha!

  2. I’m in! I won’t start until Monday, April 10, because of prior commitments, but plan to baste and put a quilt in the frame to hand quilt. Sounds like a fun challenge! Thanks!

  3. This looks like fun! I’m going over to see what kinds of projects are being posted. I’ll be seeing yours because of course I follow you. I love the idea of setting aside time each day for hand stitching, I may just do what you’re doing since I have so many WIP blocks that include needle turn applique, embroidery, etc. Maybe I’ll finish some blocks in the process. That’s IF I can find time!

100 days to get something done. What a remarkable idea. Seems like something never gets on my list until there are only 20 days to get it done. I am now down to only 10 days left until my next big deadline. And the project has hit a big snag. See what I mean?

Okay, I’m in. I have a crochet project I want done by July 15. I know it is not 100 days away, but if I crochet on it a little every day, maybe it will be done on time. I’m counting April 10 as day 1.
