Bingo, Pranks, and Quilty Stuff

My guild, the Pecan Valley Quilt Guild, had their Spring Retreat last weekend, and boy, do we ever have fun!

We gather at Sew Sweet Quilt Shop’s Retreat Center, and we always have fantastic food, lots of games and prizes, and there was even a St. Patrick’s Day parade right outside the door! They were handing out beer and socks!

We had a birthday party for one of our committee members, Terri, and she was busy sewing like crazy. She finished her Mystery quilt:

And also pieced this quilt top after that:

Terri was also the Master of Ceremonies for most of our Bingo games. I had a bad card up until late Saturday night. I thought I never would win a game, but I finally did.

Becky finished her Mystery quilt top as well:

Several members were working on their French Sampler quilts from last year’s Sew Sweet Quilt Shop Block-of-the-Month program. Holly finished her top:

Roseann finished her top:

And Donna has her center put together, ready to add borders.

Amy finished her Moda Be My Neighbor quilt top. So cute!

And Norma made this beautiful star quilt completely from her stash of leftovers from another project!

Games were played, pranks were pulled:

Evidently, some drinking took place. Here’s Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman! (don’t even ask — haha!)

I got quite a bit of sewing done, in between bouts of eating and game playing. I finished up all the Log Cabin blocks I was making from an Oh, Cherry-Oh! honey bun, and got them set together into this little table topper sized project. It’s very bright and happy:

I also sewed NINE pillowcases for nursing home donations:

And on Sunday morning, we were honored with a visit from famous cowgirl poet and quilter, Yvonne Hollenbeck, who is a dear friend of mine, as she was traveling through on her way to A Mountain Quiltfest in Pigeon Forge, TN, where she will be presenting lots of fun programs all this week.

She showed us her Westering Women quilt top, all hand pieced. She just needs to add her final borders. It’s a Barbara Brackman Block-of-the-Month from last year. So wonderful! Yes, all those flying geese are HAND pieced!

She brought her amazingly talented friend, Vi Colombe, along with her (I think to do most of the driving, so Yvonne could sit and sew as a passenger!), and Vi had some of her quilts along, too, so she treated us to a trunk show of her gorgeous round star quilts.

Vi is Native American, and puts that style into every one of her creations. They are beyond words amazing!

And it was all over with way too soon. I could have used an extra day.

But once again, I’ll leave you with some of the funny quotes that emerged from the mouths of my fellow guild members throughout this retreat. I say “some”, because there were a lot that I missed getting written down and can’t remember. The laughter never stops at one of our retreats — enjoy!

Here’s a good one to start off with — they know me all too well!

“Watch it! Shelly is listening.”

“I’m gonna go home and learn how to strip.”
“I have a book that can help with that.”

“Are you whining?”

“The other John Wayne — Denzel Washington.”

“It’s behavior modification, not bribery.”

“She’s very flexible, as long as things go her way.”

“She’s in bed with her eyes closed, but I didn’t hold a mirror in front of her mouth.”
“Remind me never to die at a retreat!”

“She’s not wearing her pants down to her knees, so the Tuck’s musta worked!”

“Jell-O shots! They hurt me!”

“Let’s go one more time.”
“Famous last words of a gambler.”

“I’m tellin’ you, you don’t wanna go there with this conversation. There’s tax people in the room.”

“I’m just now getting the feeling back in my tongue!”

“Go ahead, lie to me. I love it! I used to date people like you.”
