Mystery Quilt Reveal

Posted on February 14, 2017 by prairiemoonquilts in Guild Stuff, Quilts

This past year, my sister and I hosted a mystery quilt for the members of our quilt guild, the Pecan Valley Quilt Guild, in Brunswick, Missouri.

We used a pattern by Jessie Fincham called Scrappy Irish Chain. I asked Jessie if we could use her pattern, and she graciously agreed, so I broke it down into steps that we could use as a mystery, and we passed out a little bit of information every month. The pattern is a free pattern, if you’d like to make a quilt like this for yourself. You can get the pattern HERE.

Last night was our big reveal of finished quilts!

We had 8 members that had their tops finished, or quilts completely done. There are several others in the works, so I think we’ll eventually get to see more of them, but I’ll show you the ones that were revealed last night.

Bev made hers a bit smaller (great idea), and I love her soft color palette (the pink chain has me swooning):

Sandra’s is a nice, soft color palette, too. Very lovely:

Sheryl used this fabulous wild green for her chain, and it just makes this quilt!

Melissa used a grunge for her background, which I love. And her scrap arrangement in the middle is genius!

Jeanette’s is bright, and I love how the blue and white tones it all down and brings it together. Her daughter, Jessica, did a fantastic job on the quilting on this one, too.

Linda’s is very “Mardi Gras”! She used all her leftover purple, green, and gold scraps from another project:

My sister, Katy, outdid herself again, as usual. I’m a bit crossways that she seems to have inherited all of the color genius gene in our family:

And here’s mine. I chose that red background because I had so much of it in my stash, and wanted to use it up. I used it on the front, on the back, and for the binding, and I think I finally only have about a fat quarter of it left — whew! Mission accomplished!

Is this not a gorgeous bunch of quilts?!?!?!

I love all the different color combinations that everyone came up with! This pattern is a fabulous way to use up lots of scraps, and nearly everyone who made one of these quilts used scraps they had on hand, and possibly only had to purchase background fabric (some of us even had enough background fabric already — ahem).

I’d love to send a huge THANK YOU shout out to Jessie for letting us use her pattern, and I encourage you all to go try her Scrappy Irish Chain pattern for yourselves, especially if you’re wanting to use up some scraps. This quilt is easy and goes fairly quickly. You’ll love it!

ALL were pretty… it’s hard to choose a favorite because at first glance it looks like so many different patterns. That particular pattern is a chameleon… it can look random or very geometry based… modern… floral… I loved ask of them.
