Studio Organizing, Week 50

Posted on December 12, 2016 by prairiemoonquilts in Studio Organizing Challenge

Do we really have time for organizing during this busy time of year? I think not, but yet, I still need to try. This is week 50, and I thought it was only week 49 — that’s how confused I am!

I’m planning tasks for this month that are things we’d probably be having to do anyway, so here goes. This week we’re going to:

Pick a WIP to finish

I’ve seen lots of my friends posting that they have a specific WIP (work in progress) that they’d love to get finished before the end of the year, so I think we should all try it.

I’m sure I can come up with something.

And won’t it feel good to start the new year with one less project on your list? I’m trying to whittle down lots of lists before the end of the year so I can start 2017 out a bit calmer. We’ll see if I can make that happen.

How about you?

Do you have something in mind that you can finish up real quick?

Here’s my weekly shot of my cutting table. It looks ZERO percent better this week!

But I still have 20 days until year’s end . . .

my room looked bombed last night… I straightened my two thread drawers. I am about to ascend and try for more.

I did finish the small quiltlet I was working last Friday. Now to move on to the twin. My whole goal for 2017 is to finish WIP’s.

  3. LOL – I’m always picking a WIP to finish. I’m happy to report some are now closer to finishing. That’s about all I can do as I anticipate Christmas.

    Merry Christmas,
    Angie

I started some Christmas placemats about 10 days ago and thought I had plenty of time to finish them up. Well, here we are getting closer and closer and they are not done yet.

So glad you decided to change up. I am sick of organizing. (=

I didn’t have to clean any drawers as I just moved into my new studio. I’ve made my Christmas gift for a few people and they are done.

I am going to work on a UFO. Its half was done, just need to put it together and on the longarm.

    Merry Christmas,
    Liz

You want to clear that pile of stuff so first look at where it belongs? Is there a place or does that place need work? That’s where we need to work! This week I’m just trying to get stuff closer to where it really belongs.

OH, That cutting table is going to take weeks to sort out. I spent the morning going through 4 apple boxes (open so they hold LOTS) and found things from more than 40+ years to the present that I still want to finish.

Lol! I’ve been on a cleaning and putting away kick for a week or so in preparation for baby. The 2 year old is obsessed with scissors and pens, so I’m trying to put away securely all of her temptations to avoid disasters in the coming weeks.

Of course, now I started a new project in my quest to use up orphan bits. Fortunately, I’ve finished two orphan blocks, but there’s no way this one will be done. I’ve gone and turned it into a twin size quilt!

Sewing machine NOT sewing!!! Had the notes to family that they lucked out this year as my loving hands at home had come to a stop with no machine….. After bundled it up to take to the shop, thought I better try re threading it — and low and behold it sews!!!! back to the grind.

Cutting tables collect way to much stuff. Not just sewing or quilting. I keep having to clean it off to cut large things or layout a quilt sandwich for pinning. Did that just yesterday. OHHHHH!

Oh I can’t wait to see if I can finish tree skirt started 18 years ago! f am hoping to finish wall hanging I started last year.

I agree with Virginia cutting tables collect to much stuff, mine actually folds down, I store totes w/fabric under it so if I collapse it down…where will I put the totes? If I did collapse it, it would always be clean to open & cut on…

One tote holds leftover batting pieces I measure & attach a tag w/ size and a # I keep a sheet w/#’s & sizes on top of tote so I can utilize pieces for table runners and smaller items, so far this is working really well for me.

My cutting table attracts stuff too. It is an ongoing battle, which I keep at constantly. Never really winning, but never giving up.
Yours looks like quite the challenge.

My WIP to finish is my November blocks! Assembled and quilted, just needs binding. This might even be close to a personal record of blocks to finished quilt in less than 3 weeks.
