Did Sherri’s list of Time Management tips help you all? I must say, once you tackle one of them, it gives you motivation to give all the others a try, too. Or at least it does me!
I have all my lists updated and in order in my planner, one in my computer, and two on my walls where I can see them every day. And I put up a chalkboard surface on the door of my new longarm room. This is where I will keep my weekly schedule posted — large and in plain view. (I’ll also use it to remember when I last changed my needle, and when it’s time for an oiling.) I’m really anxious to get to use my new room!
Meanwhile, I’m still working on mucking out my sewing room that I let get into such a huge mess in such a short time. I worked a little bit toward #8 on Sherri’s list, which is “Keep Surfaces Clean”. But as you can see, I have a long way to go. So even tho it’s a repeat of a task we’ve done several times before, I’m making it our task again this week, since I need it so badly:
For me, my main work surface is my cutting table, which I always let pile up to massive heights. I’ve struggled all year with it, and it has yet to be completely clear even once. I’m making that my goal this week.
The thing is, I don’t want to just clear the surface for the sake of clearing it and being able to take a nice picture to show you all — I want to actually find homes for the things that are there and actually deal with the messes as I clean it off, so in reality, it may take me more than a week.
So my intent right now is to show you this horrific starting picture:
And post an update picture once a week until I have it the way I want it. That will hold me accountable for actually working on it a bit harder than I have in the past, right?
Can you believe I can even create ANYthing in that mess? I can’t. It’s awful. It looks like I’ve been burglarized! I will feel so much better when I get it cleared off. Here I go!
How about you?
You don’t ever let your main work surface get in that kind of a mess, do you? I’m pretty sure it’s just me.
So hopefully your task this week isn’t as daunting as mine, but I’d still love to hear all about it.
🙂 Yes! I do! About every month or whenever i need to cut something, I have to clean it off, and so far, my goal of having “everything” off, has not happened. I’ve come close, but it hasn’t happened yet! The problem is as you say, a place needed for the other stuff that keeps it in using distance! sigh.
Did you use the peel and stick for the chalkboard or did you use the paint?
You are “mucking out” your sewing room? I have only heard that term used in one context.
Yes, my table looks exactly like that. In fact, I have three tables that look like that, plus the floor, plus the sewing machine space, plus…I often think it is a miracle anything gets made there.
I might have a solution to your piles on your cutting table–challenge yourself to put it away at the end of the day. If you don’t, then you have to sweep it ALL into a bag labeled, “for BARB”, then give it to me! Once it goes into the bag, it’s MINE. I’m not just talking about scraps, ANYTHING left out on the table goes in–yardage, tools, etc., — and you cannot take anything back out.
What do you think? Will that motivate you??
(and you think I’m kidding?–I’m NOT) 🙂
Ok, I made progress on taking time and setting time to clean the studio. I have piles of papers that needed to be filed and I got lots of that done. I have a 2″ stack that still needs filing, but I’m feeling good about it.
I have a place for the machines at the moment. I do need to find a better place. Lost the cord to the embroidery machine that I want to sell or give away. Need to find that.
I need to work on the 3 major surfaces in the studio, so I put up photos on my blog. http://melsquiltingblog.blogspot.com/2016/11/studio-organizing.html
so, needless to say, I need this push to get it in better shape and maybe I’ll be more inclined to actually accomplish something.
