I’ve not been keeping a very careful tally of my blocks lately. Truth be told, I haven’t used my sewing machine an awful lot. I’ve mostly been at the longarm. And I’m still way behind at that!
I nearly re-counted blocks I had already counted, and have been hard pressed to remember exactly what I did work on this past month. I went to a retreat, so I should have something to show for it, right?
Retracing my steps from the retreat, I came up with 28.
I made 25 blocks for the mystery quilt my guild is doing, and I made the final 3 blocks for my Turnstyle quilt (from an Amy Ellis pattern). Now to get all that set together!
It also jogged my memory that I put together two baby quilts. My Great-Aunt Jo left behind some embroidered blocks, and her daughter-in-law, Pam, asked me if I could make them into baby quilts for her to give to her future grandchildren — a boy version and a girl version. So I did! (Now to get them quilted and bound!) Here’s the girl one:
And here’s the boy version:
I also made some monochromatic 9-patches, but I’m not counting these until the top is finished, so I don’t lose track of what I’ve counted:
Now it’s your turn to let us all know how you did this month on block making! Leave a comment with your total and I’ll do my best to keep the Project Page updated (another thing I’ve had a hard time keeping up with). As always, double check to make sure I have your total correct.
This month, we’re doing yet another 30 blocks for a year-to-date total of 290. Only 3 more months to get to 350! Some of you are way past that. I’m hoping our group totals this year are bigger and better than last year’s totals!
The monthly prize winner for August is Elaine, who so far has a total of 84 blocks. Elaine was at the same retreat as I was, sewing up a storm, so I’m waiting for her to give me a new tally. I know she’s done some more!
And as an extra added bonus, I’ll leave you with some of the funny quotes that came from said retreat. I hope you get some laughs out of them like we all did!
“I already rubbed yer butt!”
“I look more like a chicken than a Queen.”
“Could you curtsy when addressing me?”
“Something multiplied on my seat.”
“My first boob bib!!!”
“No, I’m just in charge of the universe.”
“He asked me if I was sposed to be Big Bird.”
“I’ll be around with the bowel movement cart in a minute.”
“I’ll bet that cart’s got some scary items on it.”
“It’s National Pasties Day.”
“Back to the sexual harassment class for you!”
“Do you follow your kids into the bathroom?”
“Yes. That’s why they don’t come visit me much any more.”
“I’m not gonna be a team player.”
“I gotta cool off for a bit. Bein’ Queen is hot bizness!”
