July 350 Blocks Report

Posted on August 1, 2016 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

It’s August 1st. My planner book is in a shambles. My cutting table is piled ridiculously high. My sewing room actually has cobwebs in the corners! My office is a mess. I can’t even begin to tell you how behind I am on just everything. Everything. No break in sight. It’s a good thing I love my job!

I did a horrible job of keeping track of the blocks I made this past month. Last month I said I would show you what I was making with the blocks I did last time, and I’m still not even ready to do that!

I made 5 more little blocks like these. I’m really anxious to start putting all these together somehow (I have been for a long time) but I simply can’t justify spending time on them yet. Soon, I hope.

I also started a log cabin quilt using this tutorial by Sherri at A Quilting Life. I love these so much. I haven’t yet counted how many I have done, and I don’t know how many I’m making, so I’ll add those to my total later when I know for sure, since I don’t want to lose track and accidentally count them twice. Please visit Sherri’s site and look around — she has soooo much cute stuff and some great tutorials!

I have a lot of new stuff coming up that I’ll be announcing soon, so I’ll also count those blocks as I finish, so I can be sure my count is correct. Please check back for some new patterns coming soon!

Now it’s your turn. How many blocks did you get made this month? Remember to leave me a comment or contact me to let me know your updated totals.

July was an insanely busy month, not only with quilting, but with so many other things. I feel like my summer just whooshed by all in one month, and I missed it. Here it is August, and summer will be winding down, and I feel like I didn’t really get a summer!

How about you? Did you get any sewing time at all?

Our new total for August is another 30 blocks, for a yearly total of 230. We’re heading fast toward that 350 mark. Some of you have already surpassed it, and I find that amazing — we’re quite a group!

I’ve got the Project Page updated, so you can check out how you’re doing.

The June prize package winner is Andrea, who checked in with 256 blocks as of the end of June. And I happen to know she travels a lot for her work, so this is an amazing number.

I’m hoping we all have a productive August — happy vacations, happy back-to-school, happy gardening, and happy stitching!

  8. Cindy says:

Yay, I actually did better, only because I was working on a shop sample. I made 96 blocks in July for a ytd total of 410. Congratulations Andrea!!!

  9. Barb B says:

I think you were describing my studio… No cobwebs, but a few dead Japanese beetles by the window.

I hadn’t been down there for a month! Finally, on Saturday, I spent several hours sorting through scraps and selveges. and pulling out several UFOs for a retreat later this month.

    Nothing to report for July.

  10. Deanna says:

Just 33 blocks for me this month. But, that is a total of 272 this year. Not too slow, but not too fast either. My focus this week is finishing binding a baby quilt and getting two others quilted, so I probably won’t do too much piecing.

  11. Betty K says:

I completed 59 blocks for the month. The last 2 weeks I have been keeping an eye on grandkids while their mom (my daughter) & dad went to Aruba for 25th anniversary and birthday of Dad. Grandkids are 22, 20 and 16 and can cook, etc so I didn’t even stay over. Did eat out 3 times to see them and find out how they were doing. Been exceptionally hot so I haven’t felt like doing much. I will be another year older this month and am glad to be still kicking to enjoy grandkids and daughter.

  12. Maxine E. says:

115 blocks completed. I completed a disappearing nine patch quilt top, a tree skirt and a table runner. now to quilt them all.

  13. Marsha says:

Last two months have been extremely busy, but not with piecing blocks. I have been busy quilting and putting bindings on quilts. Total blocks for June (which I forgot to report) and July is zero. I do have several quilts in progress while I am in St. Louis babysitting for five days and hope to report lots of blocks next month.

  14. Marlene Clausen says:

    54 for July

  15. I was surprised – add 67 blocks for July.

Look forward to seeing what you’re working on.

    Blessings,

  16. Denniele says:

64 blocks this month……plus a quilt show and surely something else that took up my time! 😉

  17. Suelynn Williams says:

12 blocks made in July – comopany and travel and now more stash! I am taking a folded log cabin class tomorrow so have been cutting, folding, and pressing strips the last two days.

  18. Stephanie says:

24x Heartstrings blocks, 7x Two-by-Four blocks, and a top made from 5 inch squares using up 12 Fqs, so I will call that one 12 blocks. Total of 43 for July, grand total of 556 so far this year. Woo!

  19. Becky says:

I made 117 blocks in July. I did them fairly early in the month and slacked off!

  20. 41 for July. 212 for the year.

  21. Meloney says:

I made 128 equivalent blocks in July.
That brings my total to 404.

Finally made some progress. Made lots of small things and finished items, so I could count them.

  22. Judy S. says:

29 blocks for me this month. I’ve been machine quilting a big quilt ( for me, anyway). Also, putting up peaches, entertaining children, etc. Its summer, I never get much sewing done. Too many distractions.

  23. Janet V says:

Well I am back to sewing in July I did 126 blocks. It good to back at the sewing machine

  24. Susan says:

Cute little scrappy log cabin. They are great leader-enders!

  25. Sherry V. says:

I was in some swaps this month. Update my count by 13!

Now if I could just get blocks done for me! LOL

  26. Cute blocks, Shelly! I’m happy to report 58 blocks this month. This puts me ahead of schedule, which is my intention since I know I won’t have much time during the holidays to make blocks. I’m with you, watching the summer fly by, but I’m glad I’ve had time to enjoy it even though constantly busy.
Thanks again for this challenge, it truly motivates me.

  27. Julie L says:

I made 78 blocks this month for a total of 636 for the year.

  28. Pat Mac says:

Started the month strong with an organized sewing room and 82 blocks finished the first week. The only thing added the rest of the month was bits and pieces, learning to quilt on my sit down Juki and creating a total mess in my sewing room. To date total is 714. An organized mind creates an organized space, but a creative mind needs a messy playroom where exciting ideas are explored and discovered.

  29. Donna says:

10 blocks for me this month.

  30. Karen says:

I made 25 blocks in July. My total is 503 blocks. I didn’t get many blocks sewn but I finished five quilts and I am pleased with that progress. You can see them on my blog.

  31. Hi Shelly,
I got 31 blocks done for July. Which brings me up to 290 for a total so far. Have a great day!

  32. Andrea O'Brien says:

Wow! I am so excited to be the winner this month! Thank you!!

Like you, I had another month with low numbers….I counted only 16 blocKS in July. I did quilt two quilts, finished two UFOs, put the binding on one quilt, and started cutting another quilt! It is looking like I won’t be traveling this Fall as much as I have this past year, so hopefully I will get more done!

  33. Susan says:

Another busy month with lots of completions, but no new quilt blocks.

  34. Linda Knight says:

I completed 4 blocks in July. That’s actually better than I thought! I did get my paper pieced quilt on the frame but haven’t begun quilting it yet. And I have been able to start sewing a lot of squares together for another quilt so my month has not been a total waste.

  35. Kathi Benchley says:

1 block–busy with garden. I did spend 1 day at my local quilt shop on open sew day, and spent the time machine appliqueing a blanket stitch on blocks for the Birdsong quilt.

  36. Rose Marie says:

I am reporting only 10 blocks this month. But I quilted two quilts – one for community service and I have another layered and ready to quilt for cs as well. At this stage, I would rather have complete than blocks pieced. I don’t want to be the one to die with the most blocks but no quilts!!! LOL

  37. Pam Martin says:

    25 – 12-1/2 inch blocks for me

  38. Jackie Hale says:

I finally have something to report! I made 39 blocks in July. (WhooHoo!!)

  39. Bobbi says:

I’m glad you made some progress despite the busy schedule. I hope you get some breathing room soon!

Last month I made 28 blocks for a total of 104.

  40. KT says:

Looking forward to seeing what you’ve been busy with! I made 40 blocks in July.

  41. Kari says:

Hi….a little late but reporting for June and July. In June I quilted all month so 0 blocks made but 72 quilted!
In July, I made 60 blocks and continued quilting on a new quilt by domestic machine. It is almost finished!
