Studio Organizing, Week 25

Posted on June 20, 2016 by prairiemoonquilts in Studio Organizing Challenge

Last week I moved my machine to take it to a sew day, so that gave me a good opportunity to clean up the area around it while it was empty. Not that it will stay that way, but it’s good for now!

And I was forced to clean my longarm machine when I had a mishap with a pin, so I got that done, too!

I should still probably clean out from under the throat plate on my sewing machine before I head out to a retreat and do a few days of marathon sewing this weekend. If I’m gonna make her work that hard, that’s the least I can do for her, right?

Meanwhile, it’s already time for another task. I can hardly keep up with myself — how are you all getting along?

This week’s task is to:

Organize your notions

This can be any kind of notions you think you have that need to be organized: trims, buttons, snaps, beads, etc. OR tools, pencils, and that sort of notions.

In other words, the little stuff. Get it corralled, sorted, gone through, organized, and in a home of its own.

This way, we’ll know what we have (and this will keep up from rushing out to buy more simply because we can’t find it) and we’ll know where it’s at when we want to use it!

Plus, if you run across things you never use, or some of those “what was I thinking” items, you can set them aside to give away or otherwise dispose of.

Our guild had a rummage sale at our last meeting, so I took a tub of things to give away. I’m still finding things to get rid of on a daily basis, so soon I’ll have the tub full again and can get rid of some more. It’s best if you have quilting friends who will take it and use it, rather than just dumping it, don’t you think?

Now if I can just keep from filling up the empty space I’m making, so that I have more breathing room — that’ll be the real trick!

I’ve found that I’m so excited about an area I’ve cleared out it encourages me to keep it that way. I’ll be going through my tools this week and will donate anything I don’t use to our quilt show sale this fall. Thanks for the suggestion!

I did clean up the area next to my sewing machine last week. It was piled with lots of little bits of fabric – scraps, cut offs from diagonal binding joins, leader/ender bits etc.
    Now it looks lovely.
I wonder how long that will last?

I put photos of last week and what drawers I’m working on this week.

I want to know how you know what is going on in my studio.
I went in these drawers and started the process last week.
Now it is a priority, so it should get done, at least 2 of them.
