Studio Organizing, Week 18

Posted on May 2, 2016 by prairiemoonquilts in Studio Organizing Challenge

Last week I did way more paperwork than I wanted to, and I’m not really sure I made a dent in it.

I did get my planner cleaned out and re-organized, something I like to do once a quarter — make sure I haven’t dropped the ball on something, get everything updated, add in any new ideas from my loose notes, and change the way I’m doing something if it’s not working for me. That’s why the loose-leaf style of planner works so well for me. It felt good to get all my lists cleaned up.

And we’re ready for this week’s task. I’ll be gone all this week to the Arrow Rock Quilt Camp, so whatever I do will have to be quick and easy. I think the best thing would be to:

Choose a UFO to work on

Pick something that is really close to done — that way, if you manage to find enough time, you could actually finish it and have it off your plate for good!

I’m going to work on a little wall hanging that just needs a bit of handwork to have the top done. I can take it along with me to Camp, and work on it in the evenings. While I may not get it quilted, at least the top will be finished. And it’s very small, so if I get a chance, I could squeeze it in on the longarm in between bigger jobs when I get back home. We shall see.

Do you have something that just needs the binding done to be called finished?

Finishing touches to put on a bag or other sewing project?

Got a quilt you just need to add a label to?

Or do you have a good chunk of sewing time coming up and can tackle a bigger UFO?

I’d love to hear what you’re working on!

I’m on the road, so no big UFO is going to get done, but I have a small pre-printed baby quilt that I can bind.

Last night I finished piecing the top for a quilt that I am making for my husband using fabrics that he has been collecting for a while.

I also pulled out an “oldie but goodie” UFO and finished 3 of the 4 blocks that needed to be done.

We have some camping trips coming up so I want to line up some small handwork projects to take with me. . . .they are also long time UFO’s that really need to be finished.

  3. That’s what I’m doing right now. Working on one almost done – then to quilt it. But it may not be til June I finish as out of state company is here for a while.
