Studio Organizing, Week 10

Posted on March 7, 2016 by prairiemoonquilts in Studio Organizing Challenge

I’ve heard that a clean area is contagious, but now I’ve proven to myself that it’s true!

When I got the area under and around the ironing board cleaned up, it made me want to continue on down that side of the room, so our mission for this week is to:

Clean up the area around your sewing machine

We’ve done this one before (but not so far this year), and this is how mine goes . . .

It looks like this:

sewingmachine

Then it looks like this:

Then it gets messy again. And I just want it to stay like this:

I want to get it cleaned up because as soon as I can find the time, I want to open up that cabinet. Inside that cabinet is the Singer straight-stitch sewing machine that belonged to my grandmother. She and I sewed on it a lot together, and it’s a good machine that holds lots of good memories for me.

I like to get it out and run it every now and then just to keep it working. It’s time. I’ll post pictures of it soon.

So how about you? Does your cleaned-up floor make you want to spread the love to the rest of your room? Is the area around your sewing machine in need of a good purge?

I have a huge pile of leader/ender pieces laying beside my machine that I need to press. Just having those done will be a nice thing to have under control. What do you pile next to your machine?

  1. Mercy, I guess I caught the bug (more than one…I have a real bad head cold) but spent the last three days doing nothing but sorting fabric. I looked at each piece and asked myself if I was ever going to use it or not and even though a lot is beautiful and high quality fabric, it went into boxes and I will eventually bag it all in segments and attempt to sell it at a flea market, or does anyone have any good ideas as to what to do with it. There is also a lot that was in my mother’s stash when she died.

Well it looks like the studio organizing has now spread to the rest of the house because we’ve decided to move 200 miles to a more rural area with a place with bigger rooms – so I can have a bigger studio!!

So now planning to go through the whole place and reduce stuff by half. Even my 27k treadle in a drawing room cabinet is going when I can get it on ebay – much to heavy to move with all the other stuff we will have!

My main machine currently has lots of fabric around it which I have been sorting out, but it’s not quite sorted – and now will have to go through it all again to decide on the 50% that’s got to go!

I’m cooking at church this week and doing our taxes. Who has time to clean anything!!! LOL

I join a lot of you. I am so sick with this dang cold. Now it has dropped to my chest. I have spent the last week crocheting. If I try to do anything I get so dizzy.
Anyway I don’t see how you can sew in such a small space. I have a 4 ft. table and most times I don’t have enough room to move. My table is well organized. I guess my projects are just too big.
I have to keep myself organized or I just won’t work in there. Sigh. But you are right we need to keep on top of things or it gets out of hand.

Well, when my husband got called out to work in the middle of the night Monday, I decided I might as well get up and work, because I couldn’t get back to sleep. I vacuumed the entire main floor, moved some furniture in the living room and worked on my taxes. By the time he returned at 5:30 a.m., we got an hour “nap” and went to work. Despite the lack of sleep, I had lots of energy at the end of the day, so last night I vacuumed my studio, decided on the backing fabric for a baby quilt, and fixed the tension in my Featherweight. Guess all that caffeine from breakfast was still running through my veins.

As for what is beside my sewing machine….not much–only a magnetic bowl of pins and some leader and enders ready to be sewn. I do have a pile of fabric to iron and put away. I’ll knock that out this week.

    Thanks for the missions!

I got my floor cleaned, and hav been doing better at keeping my sewing area cleaner. It still gets to be a mess, but I’m better than last year.
