Creativity Challenge #2

Posted on January 14, 2016 by prairiemoonquilts in Creativity Challenges

Did you doodle?

How was it?

Was it fun? or did you find it stressful?

It’s supposed to be fun . . . and relaxing — not stressful — so I hope you had fun with it.

I hope you keep on doodling. Keep adding to the doodle you started, or keep starting new ones. Keep trying new tools and markers to make them different. I’m planning to start one with color here soon. Meanwhile, the ones I’ve been working on are growing, and I plan to keep working on them.

Here’s my big one using black ink on paper:

And here’s my wall doodle with a Sharpie marker:

So are you ready for the next challenge?

This one’s not too difficult, either, but it might make you think a bit, and I hope you’ll find it fun. I want you to:

Make your initial out of something

I was going to say make your initial out of something unusual, but everyone’s version of unusual is different, so while I hope you’ll use something you think is unusual, it might be something rather common, as is the first one I made.

I made this first one out of thin cardboard with a layer of newsprint glued on top. The newsprint came from a shopping bag I picked up somewhere and saved with my art supplies. I think the back cardboard layer might have come from a charm pack!

I drew my initial the way I wanted it, cut it out, cut out the paper one just like it, and glued it on with a glue stick (since I can’t seem to find my Yes! Paste anywhere).

Then I tied on a little jute bow.

Right now, it’s living on top of the bulletin board in my sewing room:

I’m planning to make a few more out of some other things, just to try them. And then I’m planning to display them all together on the wall somewhere as a group. I’m thinking some rusty barbed wire might be involved!

So, go forth and choose some materials from which you’d like to fashion your initial, and get to work! I’m interested to hear what things you will choose to make your initial out of. It can be as small or as large as you want. You can make it into a useful item for yourself, such as a bookmark or key chain, or you can make it to be displayed somewhere, like I’m making mine to decorate my wall.

You could make a pillow or a pincushion or a mug rug or a potholder or a bracelet or a picture frame or — honestly, the possibilities are truly endless!

The point is to be creative with it! I can’t wait to see what you all make!

I did doodle for 30 minutes a couple of times last week. I tried to branch out of my normal doodling. It was some free motion type feathers. I am enjoying cultivating creativity!

I’m going to try and join in on this each week! I am thinking about the initial challenge right now and will see what I can come up with…

I had mixed results from my doodling. Some I really liked and some I tried that bombed, or at least didn’t do much for me. I seem to be happiest doing naturalistic stuff.
I’m really excited about this new challenge!

I did doodle for a good 30 minutes. I think the hardest part for me was just to start…I haven’t drawn anything in years. But my daughter cheered me on and we ended up having a lot of fun with it. I also picked up some coloring books and did a bit of that. Now every day she asks me when can we draw and color? So I think this is going to be alot of fun for us both.
Regarding the initial…can it be done in needlework, like cross-stitch?

    Nice second challenge…

I did a little doodle, and then my little sketchbook migrated :/
It’s somewhere in the pile that’s accumulated in front of the living room sofa.

Now to think about what to fashion initials out of…

I doodled a bit, and DD doodled with me. I think she doodles better than I do.
I am thinking fabric would be appropriate for my initial. Now to see what I want to do.

Ok I completed project 2. I made my initial on a piece of cardboard and glued shredded pieces of money that I received as a souvenir when I visited the Federal Reserve. Posted picture on Instagram

I DID AN INITIAL AND PUT A ROSE STICKER AND HAPPY FACES ON IT. THIS COMES CLOSE TO WORDS. I CAN DO THIS.

I always doodle, so I just kept on. Will put one up on your page, and there are more on my own blog (because you probably don’t want ALL of them here!).

I am thinking on my initial. I have collected “Es” for years, with every intent of creating an E wall, but have yet to actually hang them. :/

Anyway, am off to my workroom this afternoon and (with luck) all day tomorrow. Will show you what I come up with soon!

  11. Hi,
My S is posted at my blog. It’s a pillow with my first initial. Have a great day!
