A Few Projects

Posted on November 25, 2015 by prairiemoonquilts in Studio News

I thought I’d take a little time today to show you some of the projects I’ve been working on. A lot of the time, I can’t show what I’m working on because it belongs to someone else, but sometimes I get to squeeze in a couple things for myself.

I’ve been doing the Moda Sampler Shuffle through Sew Sweet Quilt Shop, and I’ve completed six blocks so far. I’m slowly working on the next six, and hope to get caught up before the next batch of 3 comes out this weekend.

I told you in my last post that I was starting a Granny Stripe Afghan, and I have. It’s going very slowly. She’s posted the 54th color stripe already, and I’m on color stripe #2! I only work on it for a few minutes every evening right before bedtime, so I think I’m gonna be awhile getting mine finished. But I love it so far, and it’s a good way to unwind from the day’s quilting frenzy.

I’ve been leader/endering pieces for my Postage Stamp quilt:

And my Scrap Vortex quilt:

And since I can’t throw anything away, I’ve been making these little half-square triangle patches for what seems like forever. They’re all made from trimmings from other projects, those little triangles you trim off that usually just get thrown away. I can’t do it! I can’t throw them away:

I’m thinking I have enough to start trying to figure out what to do with them now. I’ll keep you posted on that.

And I’m getting ready to do something luscious with this — more on that in December.

And I started this wool pillow about a year and a half ago in a class with Renee Nanneman, and I’d like to get back to working on it and get it finished up.

And that’s what’s been going on around here in my spare time! I’ve been driving the longarm like I’m practicing to try out for NASCAR, but it’s my goal to get completely caught up on customer quilts by the end of the year so I don’t start out 2016 already behind — that’s not a good feeling, and I’m hoping to avoid it!

We’re planning to have a quiet and restful Thanksgiving here at the ranch, and I hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, too. We have much to be thankful for.

Well, you know you can always pass those half-square triangles on to me…

Between you using your half-square triangle leftovers and Andrea now making selvage bags from her selvages, my supply of scrap triangles and selvages is beginning to dry up–LOL!!

between now and the end of January, I am going to do other things besides quilt. I have a lot of ufo’s that are not quilting. I have cross stitching and afghans and some Brazilian embroidery to finish. So quilting is going to take a back seat for a while. I’ve done too much and am getting ill. Dr says relax. So I’m going to take his advice and chill out for a while.
From our home to you all. Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

Look at you go!! Busy as always!

I am hoping to START the Sampler Shuffle soon…I’ve been printing off the blocks and thinking about what fabric I might use (do I really need something new? No. do I really want something new? Maybe.)

I, too, have piles of bitty blocks of hst’s. I sometimes think I should just throw them away but then realize I’ve piled up a gazillion of them. Someday they might grow up to be something.

And crochet…yeah, I would like to think about doing some. Haven’t in forever. BUT. The knitting pile is almost as bad as the quilting pile so I’m not. No. No. No. I’m not.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!! Pat all the babies and give the dog some turkey scraps!

I thought about the sampler shuffle, but then decided I really didn’t want to add it to the ufo list.

I am working on a few projects myself. One thing I am doing is cutting squares from my Mother’s scraps. Vintage 40’s, 50’s, and feedsacks. The squares are for Christmas gifts for my daughters.

Glad to know you aren’t wasting any of that spare time. 😉 Those are really TINY hsts.

  7. I gave myself til 9:00 to sip coffee and do a quick browse. I’m about 15 minutes off schedule but just wanted to wish you a very Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving.
