Studio Organizing, Week 37

Posted on September 10, 2015 by prairiemoonquilts in Studio Organizing Challenge

My, my, how the time does get away from me!

I’m glad I chose an easy task for last week.

I got my 4th drawer cleaned out.

DrawerAfter

How did you do?

I moved a lot of stuff around in my sewing room this week. Moving things to get them out of my way so I could work. Some of them I managed to find homes for and put away for real, other things just moved from one pile to another.

A lot of those “things” were pieces of fabric, so that has inspired this week’s task:

Clean out or reorganize a fabric storage area

For me, this would be a plastic bin. I have several. For this week, I’m just going to work on one of them, to get it cleaned out and reorganized so that it will hold more of what it’s supposed to, and so there’s not as much fabric laying around my sewing room all willy nilly.

How about you?

Is your fabric all under control and neatly organized?

Or do you need to show it a little attention this week, like me?

I would say that I am working on mussing up my newly arranged quilting studio. I have several unfinished projects laying about. I even bought one more plastic bin to put one UFO in so that I can find it when I need to attend a retreat. In short, I blew this whole month when it comes to Studio Organizing.
And I have been shopping and the fabric is not quite arranged in its place. Ironing before folding is not all done.

I got my drawer cleaned out and found lots of stuff. I really need to figure out how many scissors I need.

My fabric is basically organized, but could use some tidying.

Well honey the only drawers I paid any attention to were those I put on my hiney. I have been working a LOT on non-sewing parts of my home getting rid of big pieces of furniture. I am feeling more breathing room. I NEED this weeks task. I have a chair in my foyer of all places piled high with sewing stuff. All my new fabric purchases, which I really do not NEED, are accumulating there. We will see if I can accomplish getting some of that corraled!

well, I am getting ready for my return trip to Massachusetts from California. I am leaving a baby quilt here since my niece just announced she is pregnant again. YEAH!! She has a two year old son and he is taller than most 4 year olds!

I am packing some things to mail home so I can have a little more sleeping room in my car. I have been somewhat productive, made 2 totes, 3 purses, one custom bag for my sister-in-law, one wonky quilt (without a pattern) that is about 40 x 55, a matching pillowcase, and have several other projects to finish before I leave.

Thank you for your notes on organizing. It has helped to inspire me. The biggest challenge and most rewarding was doing the wonky quilt. I broke all the rules doing it. It took me a long time to break through. When it came together, it was smoother than silk, every sashing cut to the right size at the first cut. Every border cut to size and it is a beautiful rectangle. I will send photos later. Don’t have access to photo card on this computer.

    Thanks!

    Kate

You got me inspired to organize a couple of drawers that are in desperate need. I’m leaving for a retreat tomorrow till Sunday at MO Star Quilt in Hamilton and next week is Bonnie Hunter’s class so not sure when this will get done. But, I am determined to get it done by the end of the month. Thanks for the inspiration.

I cleaned my work room yesterday. Made a nice place for my new machine coming in tomorrow. After a lot of research and months of comparing machines and trying a lot out. I decided to purchase a Juki Exceed F600. It will do all I need with my sewing and my quilting. I will let you know how I like it or not in a few weeks. Have to really give it a try before I can accurately decide if I like it. I’d better with what I paid for it.

  7. Didn’t even open a drawer. I was bad, but I did clear my shipping desk of all papers, trash, fabric, cards, etc and can now breathe as I pass it. Hope to do better this week. I have an overflowing fabric set of shelves that are taking over a corner.

I cleaned my this morning. I always have binds on fabric that need organized but I think this week I will work on my bucket of scrap batting it will not fit on the shelf anymore.
