The Brunswick Sampler

Earlier this year, I was invited by Sew Sweet Quilt Shop to design the Block-of-the-Month quilt that they would use for their Saturday Sampler Club, which begins annually in September. I was thrilled and very honored that they asked me, and I set to work right away on my designs.

They offer their Block-of-the-Month in two different versions — one traditional, and one modern — but both quilts have the same blocks! Just different colors, and different settings.

So here is what I came up with for them . . . The Brunswick Sampler.

The Traditional version:TBrunswickSampler

And the Modern version:MBrunswickSampler

The Traditional version uses the Plum Sweet fabric line by Blackbird Designs for Moda. In this vertical setting, the quilt measures 91″ x 101″. The center panel is applique, but if you don’t want to do the applique, the pattern includes instructions for an alternate pieced version of a center panel that will fit in that spot. (Yep, Michelle, I did that just for you!)

The Modern version measures 74″ x 74″, and uses Moda’s Weave Texture in turquoise for the background, plus lots of bright scrappy fabrics for the blocks. It’s unusual setting leaves lots of negative space for oodles of modern quilting designs. And that’s just what I did to mine, too!

I named it The Brunswick Sampler because Sew Sweet Quilt Shop is located in the historic little town of Brunswick, Missouri. Inside the pattern, all the block names are derived from people and places in and around the town of Brunswick, such as Brunswick Star, Meyer Road, etc.

Also inside the pattern, in addition to the 12 block patterns, the applique patterns, and three different setting options, you’ll find lots of little extras that I won’t tell you about here. You’ll just have to get the pattern to see what those are!

The pattern is available only through Sew Sweet Quilt Shop, so either drop into the shop to get your copy, or check them out online and I’m sure they can ship it to you!

And if you live in the area, it’s still not too late to sign up for their Saturday Sampler Club, and do it as a Block-of-the-Month through the shop. Here — I’ll make it easy for you. Their phone number is 660.548.3056. Just give them a call, and sign up!

I did some of the photography in the town of Brunswick, so I’ll leave you with a few extra shots of the quilts.

Naturally, I had to get a picture of the quilt with the Giant Pecan. (All my friends know I have a thing for the Big Pecan — I even attended its birthday party last month!)PecannQuilt
