March 350 Blocks Report

Posted on March 31, 2014 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Three entire months of this year gone already — can you believe it?

Have you gotten as much done as you wanted to?

I did a lot of sewing this month, and as usual, once I started counting, it’s more than I felt like I did.

That’s the good thing about keeping track — it makes you realize you get more done than you think you do . . . or sometimes, you don’t get enough done — right?

Here’s a few shots of some of the things I’m working on.

For the most part, I forgot to take pictures of some of my blocks, and they’re already off and gone to their new homes. One of those was a signature block for my friend, Victoria’s, signature quilt. If you’d like to send her a siggy block, just click HERE for the instructions. She’s still collecting. (My Cowboy even made one for her!)

I’m counting this table runner as 3 blocks. You can read more about this project HERE.ARTablerunner

I’m also making this quilt. FerrisWheelpic

It’s called Ferris Wheel, and it’s by Elizabeth Dackson of Don’t Call Me Betsy, and this pattern is in the July/August 2013 issue of Quilty magazine. I attended a “Paula Party” at Sew Sweet Quilt Shop when this was the project, and got a good start on it, and now I’m trying to finish it up. The Paula Party was so much fun, I’m already signed up for another one in June! Here’s one of my blocks (I have 6 of the 20 done so far):FerrisWheel

And I made 42 blocks like this:KaffeAD

This quilt is a Kaffe Fassett pattern, and I can’t tell you which one right now, because I can’t find my book that it’s in. But I had these already cut out, so I put them together. Now to find the book, so I can finish the quilt! It’s still packed away somewhere . . .

Excuse the crinkledyness of my blocks, please. I’ve had them packed into my carry-around sewing bag so I could work on them!

So that makes a total of 61 blocks that I made this month. How about you?

It’s time for you to report in and let me know. Post a link if you have one. I love seeing pictures to go with the reports. I’ve already heard from some of you. I’ve also updated the totals with our goal for April, so keep on stitchin’!

I announced the February prize winner HERE, in case you missed it, and I updated the Missouri Star Quilt Company post with the winner of the BLOCK magazine, so check that out, too. It’s HERE.

I completed 144 blocks in March. It ended up being way more of a productive month that I imagined it would have been!

  2. linda Kowalski says:

Looks like my count is 160 for March.

  3. Janet Volz says:

I completed 111 blocks in March.

  4. Susan says:

Okay, I’m a piker compared to all the responses above, and to you. =) There are two things I forgot to count, so I’ll try to remember to throw them in next month’s post. But I’m still a piker. =)

  5. Bari says:

Holy Toledo, but I feel like a MAJOR slacker! I was happy to get my measly 24 blocks finished….144, 160, and 111! You ladies are my heroes!

Anyway, you can read about what I haven’t been doing here – http://wp.me/prxfA-1st

  6. Linda says:

Well, I will make everyone else feel like automatons. What with a trip to Florida to babysit and then a broken finger requiring surgery on Wednesday I have done a grand total of 0 blocks. My only saving grace is that I was able to piece together the blocks I made the last two months.

  7. Bobbi says:

I finished 18 blocks this month! That brings my grand total for the year all the way up to 20. 😀

  8. jmniffer says:

I had a great month, with a total of 97 blocks sewn! Nothing like horrid weather to keep me inside and happily sewing.

  9. Deanna says:

Another slow month for me, but I did finish 15 blocks for a new scrappy quilt I am calling Calico Rose. Hopefully the spring will give me more sewing time, really piecing time. I have made a dance costume and an Easter dress this month and mended MANY items, but that doesn’t help the block count at all. SO, my grand total for the year so far is 60.

  10. KT says:

I made 43 blocks this month, including 14 star blocks and 14 spool blocks. I also finished quilting and binding the baby quilt for my niece in time for her baby shower.

  11. Pattilou says:

I finished 35 blocks this month. Since I just started counting in March, that will be my official total for the year, so far. 8 projects made it to the finished stage. Three quilts for Project Linus and the rest were table toppers and place mats. I’ve been quilting anything that looked like a UFO on my new Tiara.

  12. I completed a total of 17 and now have a total of 118 for the year so far. I do have an excuse—my husband’s girls’ basketball team(Mountainburg, AR Lady Dragons) made a March to the state finals. We were the state runner ups! See http://sunshineandfireworks.blogspot.com/2014/03/my-block-challenge-marches-on.html for pics of quilts and ball players.

  13. Rose Marie says:

Holding up the bottom standards myself, I finished 40 blocks in March. I’m not even quite sure how I did that with a week in New Orleans and no sewing machine time for two weeks. I must have been flying the first week of March.

  14. Jane B says:

Hey, I sent a siggy block to Victoria, too. I had forgotten about it, so my total is 41 for March. I finished the blocks for my QOV (28) and got that top assembled. The rest were for my Celtic Solstice quilt and the leader/ender blocks between all of those. I’m not counting the little spools I’m making yet because 4 of those will go into block when I put together my quilt. (I have 92 in the spools box!)

  15. Judy says:

Coming in pretty low on the totem pole, my count was 40 for the month of March. Eight of those were Dear Janes, do I get any extra points for that? Just kidding. I also machine quilted a quilt, that was about a weeks worth of time. It’s all about the process anyway, right?

  16. Susan says:

    26 Farmer’s Wife Blocks
    8 9 patch
    8 T-Shirt quilt

    Total for March 42.

    More than I thought.

  17. Cathy says:

I am feeling really good about completing 60 blocks this month.

    20 pinwheel blocks
20 blocks for the Quilty Fun Sew Along
20 blocks for my daughter’s memory quilt (I counted every 16 squares I sewed together as a block.)

So since I started in March my grand total for the year is 60.

  19. Not as many as the last couple months for me, but I did make 35 blocks in March. I also finished putting together 2 tops.

  20. Nanette S. says:

Good Afternoon All. I only did 35 blocks this month. I hope to do better in April! Have fun.

  21. Karen says:

You’ve all done so well so far! Congrats! I’m afraid I didn’t get any done this month. My sewing space is buried in boxes right now; sure hope next month will be better.

  22. Cathy says:

Ok I’m a day late on getting you my totals, but this month I did 78 blocks. http://ucanquilt2.blogspot.com/p/the-350-blocks-project-2014.html

  23. Sue says:

I made 74 blocks in March.

  24. Heather says:

I managed to keep myself on track this month and completed 30 fabric postcards and 1 paper pieced block. http://www.heatherpearson.com/2014/04/350-block-challenge-march-update.html

  25. Shar F. says:

Sorry these are a little late. I had the totals posted on my blog on the 1st, but just getting over here has taken a little bit. I completed 187 this month. You can read about it on my blog at http://stitchedwithfriends.blogspot.com/2014/04/march-block-count.html

  26. Shar F. says:

I love a lot of Don’t Call Me Besty’s patterns. I am doing a quilt with Kaffe Fassett fabric. It is fun and hard at the same time. I have really opened my mind.

  27. Cathy Poyner says:

I made 28 blocks in March.

  28. Gloria J. Horn says:

My friends ask me what I do all day when I tell them I cut out and sewed so many quilt blocks, or that I completed a top. Which by the way I only got 14 done for the month of March. But some of you guys that complete in the 100s, you must tell me how you do it? I did complete one quilt for QOV and as I was looking to find my state coordinators info so I could ask her what to do next. I found one from her requesting I present one to a Vet. I have it ready to drop it in the mail to get to Mrs. Ryan whom I have been paired with to quilt it. I am excited to say the least. Still would like to know how you ladies get so many done, congratulations to you all.

  29. Terri Gross says:

Didn’t quite make my goal of 10. But I got 8 done plus 2 quilts cut out.

  30. Cassandra says:

I too got zero for March. 🙁 No excuses.
